Help with straight route across the UK

I am planning on walking in a straight line across the UK , without walking more than a couple of meters of the line. Tresspass is legal in the UK but I want to avoid angry farmers if possible.

Is this possible?

Can anyone suggest a slightly better route or variation of the line I just drew?

Can I start at any point on the estuary / river or should my line start from a beach or something?

I want to be as faithful as possible to the line.

Thanks!

Why does everything always have to be straight? There's others ways you can go.

Not a smart idea. Farmers here aren't going to mess about when they find you on their land. Leave them alone, lad.

they're not gonna do shit though, just shout at you and maybe call the police

are you familiar with geowizard? he's done this in wales and norway, and there are a number of videos where he goes into detail on his routeplanning

yeah but I think hes a bit too unruly as he doesnt stick to the line just wanders off whenever it gets hard :I

but ill look at his later videos

I think it was after the first wales failure that he stepped up his planning game a lot. one of the big things he talks about is trying to identify areas with sharp changes in elevation along the route.

have you tried checking your line in something like caltopo to look at the elevation changes?

this is a great idea and something I did not do, I tried to do this straight line thing in liechtenstein and realised there were cliffs and I was totally totally fucked.

Your advice would have been great a couple years ago mate!

Do you know if geoguesser did anybetter at his lines later on?

            Yeah, he definitely got better.

I don't know your exact start and end point, but you really do need specific coordinates and to check your line closely before going on any attempt. I see a few major issues:

-ll=55.44465,-2.13497 area has >20% grades in the area around river breamish
-ll=55.40023,-2.23198 the area around shorthope hill seems pretty dicey

I really hope these straight line autists get chewed up and spit out by a combine harvester.

You can walk around their land. A legal minimum isn't the same as a moral minimum. Be better to the people keeping you alive now that evolution has failed us.

I think you are genuinely retarded.

Who would you consider more evolved?

The fat fuck on the dole sitting at home watching TV
or the self made millionaire with time on his hands to explore and complete challenges for the betterment of mankind?

I dont wish combine harvesters on you, but I do genuinely feel sadder knowing there are such fucking retards around who get butthurt over the wrong things.

Yes I have houses and land, and if anyone was doing a challenge I wouldnt give a fuck, good on them.

      You fucking retard.

Finish your 3 day hike up Ben Nevis, post your selfies like the bell end of the plonker that you are and challenge yourself to find the fastest fall to the bottom. For the betterment of mankind.

Might be worth contacting farmers beforehand, let them know what you're planning, and if they're okay with it when you're likely to be walking through their land. Bit shit since I imagine a fair few will just tell you to fuck off, but it's probably better than getting chased on quadbikes.

Another thing worth considering is fences, walls, etc. If you're planning on keeping on as straight a line as possible then chances are you'll be running into these a fair bit and will need some way to get over them without damaging property and, more importantly, without hurting yourself.

oh yeah, they're really terrifying. What's he gonna do, send some bobbies after me?

Fucks sake Ben don’t go walking over to him you cunt!

If I were to do this I’d take a way to hack through thick hedges like a foldable saw. Also a leather man wave has wire snips on it that you can use to cut through barbed wire fences (responsibly). Also go stealthy. If you wear camo you’ll be more hidden to start with and if someone sees you they might think you’re on some training and just leave you alone.

Youve literally just told me to wear camo and fuck up property, are you a glowie or just catastrophically retarded?

In britbong land walking is legal, so thats what Im going to do. Im going walking, Im not going to break fence, christ.

A large part of Northumberland National Park is owned by the Ministry of Defence and your line takes you straight through a live firing range. Have fun.

i'm surprised how much land they own up there (most of it is access land rather than restricted areas though afaik)
might be worth looking if they allow access when no exercises are going on. a lot will have flags that they raise when they're bombing shit but you can go on when the flags are down

what's your plan for kielder lad? if you're planning on doing a dead straight line a la geowizard that's probably one of the worst patches of england to cross. it's actually a decent sized forest (for the UK), pretty hilly, and a lot of the trees are young spruce (it's a working forest) which are hell to get through because they touch each other at the base so there's no way to pass between them, and they are spikey bastards
and of course there's the big fuck off lake in the middle of it that your line goes straight through

There's no chance he's doing that in 24 hours, right?

Absolutely no chance. Even without the ball it would be an impressive feat. I'm really wonder how that is going to work at all, and especially downhill where the ball would just roll wherever.

            Anonymous

Yeah. Don't know why he didn't just say 48 hours instead, that might be doable. I like to think he'll have done practice runs beforehand and has some idea how long it would take but idk, he just seems to set unrealistic goals for himself a lot.
The section round by kielder is pretty hilly too, it's gonna be an arse to do with the ball, as will the section through Newcastle
