Help

I threw away my cheap Amazon reflexes years ago and been running irons at 100yds since. I been thinking about getting a new optic that's not battery powered for boogie reasons. Something analog like an ACOG. Is an ACOG a smart choice for general purpose boogie? I'm thinking of a TA44-C-400333 for my 5.56. 200yard effective range should be nicely balanced for CQB and some South Carolina foothill skirmishes right? Taking suggestions before I spend more on a optic than I did on my rifle.

yes, acog is great, put an RMR on top of it to help with close ranges where magnification doesn't make sense and you're gtg. Sage for a moronic question that belongs in a /QTDDTOT/ thread though.

      >RMR
I'll probably stick some low pro iron on it so it's not moronicly tall. Also love muh irons. Maybe I'll consider a Tritium RMR because I fricking hate batteries.
      >QTDDTOT
I searched the catalog for "ACOG" and "Sight" and other "generals" but didn't see anything. I post to /k/ maybe 2-3x a year so I'm not familiar with all the alphabet soup threads.

The fiber optic RMR is dogshit. Avoid it.

        TA31+RMR is the best combo.

The current meta is to use a battery powered ACOG. They let you mount the RMR at the front, which is useful for night vision and wearing a hat.

I get running irons with dots. But i'm pretty sure anything that will disable an acog is also going to disable you.

Meh. They don't weigh enough to not add.

As a man with fricky vision, you should know better than anyone that people don't realise how bad their vision is until they wear corrective glasses for the first time and realise that it actually is possible to see individual leaves on a tree.

Shame on you. Don't knock prisms with adjustable focus until you try them.

I shoot 600yds with my TA31. I've never met anyone who had issues with an acog

All the shit people run on modern ARs adds up. I didn't realize how heavy my 'serious' rifles had become until I built a retro M16 clone last year.

Thanks Anons. Guess I'll nut up and drop a grand on one of these Tritium Trijicons, sight it in at 100yd (that's the longest range near me) and call it a day. That model has a nice FOV too which I assume is important for situational awareness. I'm civvy so I don't know much about the ranges at which non CQC firefights take place. But if it's the standard for Marines and such I guess it's good to go. Been running irons for a while but I'm getting old and my eyesight is getting worse each year.

MAJOR FRICKUP TO NOT GET A 4x32 MODEL
Only get the TA01 or TA31. Only get a 4x model ACOG, the other options are shit. Do not be a homosexual and try to be different OP. Get the 4x model.

Our Hop said the best ACOG for civilians is the 3.5x, because it's the only one with a BDC that's rated for 5.56mm out of 16 inch barrels and it has the most generous eye relief.

Assuming you think Philson's Crossroad is the longest range available to you, but look into SCDNR - James O. Thomason Firing Range. They have a 200 yard outdoor rifle range.

Zero at 50 yards and it'll hit about what you're aiming at within 300 yards. Alternatively, zero 1.5" high at 100 yards. Both produce the exact same zero.

smallcog is a meme. tiny window, worse than a red dot, useless for passive aiming, costs as much as a t-2 with no benefit.

the 2x and 3x acogs are also stupid, the 3.5x sacrifices the weight and incredible FOV of the 4x for marginal eye relief gains. the 5.5x is sweet but ultimately not worth the price, the 6x is absolutely moronic on any gun other than a GPMG

you literally can't go wrong with an acog
if you're looking for a holosight, then an RMR is also a great choice that can be paired with a magnifier or ontop the acog

Don't get an ACOG. They lack an adjustable dioptre because the ACOG was made to be as rugged as possible for infantry, who are required to have 20/20 vision. As a mid 30s man, you'll benefit from a prism sight with adjustable focus.

Don't listen to this homosexual. I'm beyond mid 30s and I have dogshit vision (3 botched eye surgeries) and the ACOG is crystal frickin clear

I'm mid 30s and while my vision is still pretty decent it's certainly not as good as it used to be. ACOG is crystal frickin clear for me as well.

Spoiler alert : It's not crystal clear. 20 year olds can see miles further than you. You need adjustable focus on your optics.

I have a Duty RDS mounted on my patrol rifle, I figured that a red dot would be preferable to a magnified optic for patrol since the vast majority of times I’d have my rifle I’d be inside of a building or in a yard. I ordered a TA31 last night because in reality most of the times I’ve actually gotten my rifle out of the trunk I’ve been dealing with people 100-300 yards away. I haven’t decided if I’m going to offset mount the Aimpoint or piggyback a Holosun yet.

ACOG 4x is probably a good all around, but something with a flip up magnifier would be my choice. Best of both worlds. RMRs are a meme unless you train with them constantly, the HoB is moronic.
