PROTIP: if you own a gun over a year without negligent discharging at least once, you aren't handling it enough. NDs are a natural part of handling weapons, just like tweaking your back is part of weightlifting and car accidents are part of driving. I ND several times a year because I actually HANDLE and know how to USE my weapons. It makes me a better firearms handler and marksman, and it's a small part of the price you pay in the sheepdog lifestyle Simple fact is, the "safety mentality" will build mental blocks in your head that will get you killed. You need to be comfortable putting your finger on the trigger and pointing the gun wherever you want no matter the time, place, or status of the weapon. Taking time to check whether the gun is loaded whenever you pick one up will serve to make you hesitate in a personal defense scenario. You fricking safety idiots are going to get people killed all because of this fricking "ND" shaming. Guns are inherently dangerous, you need to accept it.

No worry NDs are part of gun ownership. Its best to get used to them.

I've ND'ed only about 9 times so far, 11 if you count 3 shots from a MAC-10. Once you've been around guns for long enough you'll begin to understand what I'm talking about.

      >At friends apartment at college. Just bought my first pistol from a gun show (I was 18)

      Bullshit.

I own 12 guns, and I make it to the range as often as I can afford to. The ONLY time I've ever fired a round without meaning to was with the weapon already pointed down-range, bump firing a 2 round burst with a Glock.

You are genuinely moronic if you think a negligent discharge is a "normal part of gun ownership". For everyone's sake, take a safety course.

Posts like this and the guy who shoved a shotgun up his ass genuinely leave me conflicted. On one hand, it's funny to see. On the other hand, it's worrying that there are a fair number of morons out there whose first reaction to possibly seriously injuring themselves or others is "better post this shit on /k/ first".

The first one happened at a gun range after handing the pistol over to a RO for them to look at, as they'd never seen the gun before (Gun was a Polish P-83 Wanad). When they were looking at it, they pointed it straight at the ground, and manipulated the safety a few times, but had trouble getting it to go back after fiddling with it.

He hands it back, and I go on my merry way to start shooting. What I didn't know, is that the firing pin spring had completely given up the ghost while he was fiddling with the safety. So I go to load a magazine, pull back the slide, see nothing weird and I let the slide go to chamber the round. Immediately the gun went off and jammed, I had it pointed downrange but slightly low so the concrete floors got all fricked up.

What was interesting beyond the ND, is that I've never before or since seen the type of malfunction that caused the jam or fired round. The firing pin was stuck a solid 1/2 inch into the chamber and was overriding the next round, with the pin having punctured the primer on the fired round.

have you checked in with your neighbor?

Yeah, I told her immediately after it happened and tried to find where it landed. We didn't find it until this morning, looks like it embedded in her wooden fence next to her garage.

My favorite ND I’ve seen on /k/ was the guy who said he was in a coma and needed a QRD on the war, people accused him of shitposting but it turned out he actually shot himself in the fricking head while drunkenly cleaning his gun and was in a coma.
