I did a 30km straight line mission last year, tbh.

I'm not interested in wandering through people's backyard. It's Switzerland, so no one is going to shoot you on sight, but still.

These vids are always so cozy and make me sad that I’m an American, “angry welsh farmer who doesn’t mince words egad!” becomes “bubba shoots you in skull with 12 gauge” down here

Why are you breaking into peoples farms to take mushrooms from their lawn when you think about it.

It's like if I went into your backyard and started picking stuff out of my garden and yard and I was like hey what are you doing. But they don't wanna catch a body and a case, so they just sting you with rock salt to sting you and scare you off. Because even foxes and coyotes will try this.

in the UK, trespass is a civil offense. You're not committing a crime for being on someone's land. That can turn into criminal trespass if you idk, break shit to get in or whatever, I forget the specifics of the law.
What's more, *foraging* on someone's land is also not a crime. In fact, if you forage on their land (that is, take something they are not actively cultivating that just happens to be there, like wild mushrooms, blackberries in hedgerows, etc) and they attempt to take your foraged good, *they* are the ones committing a crime as that is attempted theft of your personal property.
As a fun final point, cats in the UK are granted express 'right to roam' privileges via the Animals Act 1971. So in a sense have more freedom that people in that case. If it causes damage or whatever, then the owner could potentially be held liable since cats are their 'property', but Mittens has every right to wander wherever she pleases.

The UK's got plenty of other problems (extending right to roam to people outside of scotland, for instance, would be fricking amazing) but our trespass and foraging laws are, in my mind, one of our great advantages. That and some c**t with a shotty isn't gonna shoot you just for wandering across a few metres of his field because 'muh castle doctrine'. Also while we're pretty low on dangerous predators and biodiversity in general, we're really pushing to reintroduce a bunch of stuff, like beavers, wolves (in scotland do deal with the massive deer overpopulation problem, much like I hear Wisconsin is doing), native flora, there are a bunch of breeding pairs of golden eagles back again.

Most states in the US only make it criminal trespass if the property is clearly posted with no trespassing signs or indicators and you refuse to leave when told to. Even then the police aren't likely to arrest you if you leave when they show up. If you're still dumb enough to stay, then you're likely to spend a weekend in jail because they will get pissed.

Also most farmers are law abiding and almost no one is going to shoot you. They definitely will make you think you're being shot at, but with their firearm experience they don't usually miss. They just want you to leave and don't feel like getting the cops involved.

Foraging is completely legal as long as its not for commercial purposes

To be expected, people get really stabby over their mushrooms. I've seen people get into fist fights over morels.

Im American as well but I have the idea of doing these in National Parks so the risk of being shot by some who takes castle doctrine too personally is much lower.

        Anonymous

yeah but the risk of getting mauled by moose or grizzly or squatch is much higher, him walking over "mountains" in wales seems so cozy compared to what we got in the southeast, frick me if my line goes through 15+ hollows and ridgelines

true. Id imagine there are more reasonable parks to go through. Like yellowstone would be suicide, but white sands would just require a lot of water

There's your problem, you're in Indiana. Drive to a place that has miles upon miles of public forest and take a walk. But don't be coming up by me and crossing my land or I'll make you pet my dogs!

There are animals that harm their livestock, but I think they cannot hunt access firearms unless through a special government license.

For some reason I developed a strong dislike to that guy, and I don't know why.
It doesn't seem like he changed all that much, but something about him just rubs me the wrong way lately.
The USA video was an absolute snoozefest as well.
I liked his earlier videos, but I can't stand that guy anymore for whatever reason.
    Anybody else?

i just dislike how much he uses his girlfriend as a portable food storage. makes it feel far less adventurous. i saw a lack of stash points as part of the challenge. also kinda lame he stopped using 4:3. but i must say the series he did across europe was one of the most enjoyable things i've ever seen on youtube.

Yup, the Europe one was great.
I wish he'd ditch the straight line thing, and just do adventure travel stuff, and PrepHole stuff.
Never really cared about the "challenge" aspect that much.

The straight line aspect by itself is boring, the scenery and unique obstacles are what make it interesting, I enjoyed the norway mission because it was something new I haven't seen before, same with the first wales mission. Seeing him try to attempt the same country four times is tiring, also scotland was boring, like wales but he picked the least scenic part of that country to cross.

You're right, I could never bring myself to do this with a GPS. I'd use my compass and map to straight line 69 miles to your gran's house like the Chad I am.
