Having watched a lot of police shootout bodycam footage I can with full confidence say that the heel type magazine release should be the standard for most service pistols.

The detriment of the additional second it takes to swap mags is heavily outweighed by the detriment of magazines being dropped left right and center in actual stressful shootout situations. Think about it, magazines often drop at the worst possible time, right when you are trying to return fire, gripping the gun tightly because your life depends on it and accidentally depressing the magazine release, whereas reloading can be done in cover. Carrying lots of extra mags also seems advisable as it seems that half of those will be dropped to the ground when fumbling with reloads.

>just train more
If that were a feasible option don't you think it would have already happened? There's a budget to consider and covering for human inadequacy with technological design is a tale as old as time.

Thankfully the USP never got fricked over by a button mag release

Truly a bloody sin. Walthers have a good reputation, but not offering the paddle on their newest sexiness has closed my wallet to them.

Walthers are the most cloned handguns ever made, even more than beretta.

you must not know anyone that's into competition shooting
my old boss who was a previous National USPSA champ says great things about q5 match despite shooting mostly atlas and cz pistols

I rarely see mags dropped in shooting cams, I see more often the slide jams and has to be racked, or an officer fumbling with the re rack on subsequent mags.

It happens super often. Gotta friend who is local PD he goes over every shooting he can it is insanely common having watched dozens of these videos with him and he says he has watched hundreds and it is consistent. We watched one where a cop went through all 4 mags because he ejected 3 of them prematurely. The Vp9 would fix all these issues

yeah ive watched shitloads of these also and only maybe two videos did i see the guy ejecting accidentally, although both times it happened repeatedly

They are garbage and aren't used for a reason.
Also more likely to drop a mag under recoil.

Not really that uncommon for people who they get shot in a shootout, it's usually their support hand. Frick trying to do motor skills like that under stress. You're a homosexual.

No one is forcing you to ditch heel releases. There are actually dozens of models and improvements in bullet technology can carry older less effective rounds.
You just wanna b***h because you are mentally a woman.

No modern high capacity 9mm handgun has heel release so yes I would say that """someone""" is forcing me ditch heel releases you fricking moron.

        I wonder why they don't....
It could be because heel releases are shit, and no consumers want them.

          Anonymous

Yeah and consumers are shit eating morons who want to emulate their favorite keanu reeves or call of duty or whatever with super fast tactical pistol reloads and end up fricking themselves in the ass by accidentally dropping the magazine from their bedside gun when confronting an assailant breaking and entering.

Or you know consumers are military and leo. Do you think HK gives a frick what Bubba wanted when they made the mk23

              >Do you think HK gives a frick what Bubba wanted when they made the mk23
They cared about the wishes of the equally moronic but better funded SOCOM and ended up with an absolutely moronic pistol that nobody other than larpers and video game characters uses.

arguably the best combat pistol of all time
                >only larpers use it
this point is spot on, as far as k gays go there is way better pistols for the money

        >Bullet improvement can carry older rounds
I like how you ignore that part. You also seems unwilling to hand load rounds for an older weapon so once again who is forcing you?

you've never tried to carry a pistol with a heel release. nothing quite as exciting as hearing your magazine eject onto the floor on its feed lips because the heel release bumped something as you sat down.

I'm fricking amazed at how few people actually realize this. I don't want the button that makes my gun effectively useless to be right underneath where my fricking thumb indexes.
    >but your thumb should never be anywhere but there if you have a proper grip and train and-
No, shut the frick up. Shit happens to everyone and when it comes to guns "shit happening" is something that I want to avoid at all costs. Heel or paddle release solves a real issue and no amount of mall ninja mental gymnastics will change my mind.

Never dicked around with a heel release but paddles seem to me like the best compromise, still very easy to quickly reload with practice but very difficult to accidentally release. With modern handgun capacities I think caring about reload speed at all is pure mall ninja shit though, unless you’re a police officer getting into extended shootouts or something

        >unless you’re a police officer getting into extended shootouts or something
I question how much of a difference it even makes here. I think the real places it makes a difference are just shooting competitions and video games. I'm aware of a couple cases where a police officer was killed when reloading (the Newhall incident and the death of Scott Gadell in 1986), but they both involved the officer reloading a revolver with loose ammunition which will take many times longer than any other option, and both cases lead to the respective departments beginning to issue speed loaders.

I think this may be the most moronic thread here. Heel release is shit and doesn't work in the modern world. Paddle release is shit too.

      Anonymous

      >doesn't work in the modern world.
That's weird, the cosmic event that made every single heel release inoperable after 1990 didn't effect any of my guns. Tough luck, anon.
