how would setting it on a tank and firing another rocket at it do anything at all? wouldn't make the fired rocket less effective? Isn't there a safety on these? would it actually set off if impacted by a rocket? I am just failing to understand the entire concept, It just looks like they basically wasted a rocket

Depends on if the shovel grip part forms the tube that was the shaped charge warhead or the fuze end. Either could be the case, the fuze at the nose is the standard config but that requires routing cables to the rear as the charge must be detonated from the back, they may have instead preferred to omit this in manufacturing to simplify things. They could, however, be using standard charges and just have made the nose cap removable, with the shovel grip being screwed onto where the propellant is usually screwed on. I'm leaning towards it being angled wrong in use though. If you look at PG-7VR charges the initial charge is set at the very end of the nose for good reason. A charge like this is either not a tandem charge or is poorly designed since the initial charge would be too close to the primary charge and damage it. Given they copied the PG-7VR and likely have Iranian support making such a poorly designed charge seems unlikely to me.

Can somebody explain the shaped charge to me? I get it’s a hollow cone that forces a plasma jet into a pinpoint followed by a slug. How does the hollow cone force it into a pinpoint though? Does the tip of the cone take the brunt of the explosion, melting it and create a path of least resistance?

Cone with explosive around it. Explosion hits the tip of the cone first and pushes it in. As the blast moves down the cone it pushes it inside out like a sock. Final shape is a very thin cone (closer to a lance) moving at Mach fuck.

      Anonymous

Not a plasma, it's a superplastic jet. The cone is forced together by the explosives and its liner material gets squirted out, think squeezing your hands around some gel, it has nowhere to go except out through the gaps, in this case it's forward, and a stream of it gets squeezed out at very high velocity. This then kinetically defeats the armor.

      Anonymous

Imagine a sphere of force exploding uniformly in all directions. Now imagine a long thin cone with the opening on the surface of the sphere and the base at the center.
How do you think the expanding force will act on the cone?

The side forces will squeeze it shut and the rest will squirt it out of the ball. The vectors will add up to go fast enough to enter the hydrodynamic regime. Imagine an asteroid splattering on a planet. Both are solid, but for daily-life purposes you can model them like a liquid.

the rear of their mock merkava looks to be on a door hinge with a knob/handle on the right. the orientation of the round in the demonstration video was probably just the only way they could keep it propped up.

the actual merkava has an access hatch that swings down. the demonstration clip isn't an actual piece of instruction, just a piece of propaganda. if accuracy mattered at all, they wouldn't have a fake merkava touted as real "captured" hardware in the first place.

Did you know how much each iron dome missile costs? at least 100,000. Each time they fire one of those scrap rockets made virtually for free by a guy in a tunnel somewhere 100,000 dollars of american money are launched to keep it from potentially hitting an israeli's car. That's just if you only count the actual cost of the missiles too, the battery and personnel are additional costs. How long would it take you to work for 100,000 dollars? how much american labor goes into the tax money for every single one of those?

It's funny, Palestinians don't seem to understand that the iron dome is really protecting THEM.

Without the iron dome, the thousands of rockets fired by hamas would have radicalized the Israel into a truly genocidal fervor. And no, 10k bombs == 9k civilian casualties is not a genocide. It's restraint.

Israels bombing campaign has dropped 10k bombs and killed 9k (hamas's number). Less than 1 per bomb.

The war in Russia isn't comparable, because the Ukrainian forces are actually trying to defend their civilians, whereas Hamas uses them as shields. Knowing that, 1 civilian collateral per bomb is surgical.

There has never ever been a Palestine as a separate country.
The closest they got was the two state solution that ended up with the arabs chimping out instead of accepting it.
Before that it was a part of a much larger British protectorate, before that the ottoman empire and so on right back to the age of the Romans.

If you want to talk history the israelites were previously called Palestinian israelites with the Palestine/Israeli split a creation of the 50s. So the two state solution was itself a pretty artificial construct.

      $100,000 isn't actually thatuch money.
If you buy 10,000 missiles, then that only turns out to something like 1 billion dollars, which across the entire population of the United States is about $3 per person.
