old neighbor was retired NYPD. we chatted everyweekend while we did yard work. He hated Clinton and after 9/11 the soul just kinda went out of him. I think he knew the Pax Americana was over. No more smiles and funny stores of stupid arrests or dumb suspects. One day he walks up as Im cleaning the gutters and asks me to come down off the ladder. In his garage are two plastic cases on his work bench. He tells me to pick one. They are both blue Beretta cases. I pick the one the left bc its cleaner.
    >New 92FS
He laughs and says the other case has the same thing. He eventually moved from his house to his family ranch up by Lubbock. Thats the last I heard of him.

I work at an LGS, we obviously sold out of pretty much everything during the pandemic and we were consistently busier than we have ever been before. When things finally started calming down, our manager used some of the freebie points we had building with our distributors to get each of the sales guys a CZ 457 Royal with a diamondback 3-9 on top. I've gotten a couple other free guns before from people surrendering shit at the store, but nothing nice. A haskel (pre-high point C9), an old ass Marlin 81 that had a fucked up stock, and a Llama .22 1911

my dad gave me a tikka .270 with a leupold scope as my first rifle when I was like 10? Could not handle the recoil at first and there is still a faint crescent shaped scar between my eyebrows from where the scope hit me the first time I tried to shoot it(I was still an armature with even a .22 at the time). I didnt shoot it again for awhile after that, but later it became my absolutely favorite hunting rifle and I have taken many deer, wild boar and coyotes with it. The tikka bolt action has 100% spoiled me on all other bolt actions. It's so smooth I can almost shoot as fast with it as a semi-auto. The flat trajectory, accuracy, and stopping power of the .270 has spoiled me on all other cartages. God I love that rifle,

Oh yeah, that reminds me, I did get a 365 essentially for free from the SIG sales program. I did have to pay taxes on it though, it was reported as income. I almost got enough points through the Glock program for a 43x once, but it ended and I got a bunch of mags and bullshit instead. The Vortex program is awesome, vortex bux are easy to get and you can get anything in their catalog. I've gotten a bunch of shit from them, including a set of Razor UHD 12x binos. The FN program sucks, although I have a buddy that got a free FNX 45 tac. You have to play the SIG program to get anywhere with it, they sometimes have 5x and 10x point items each month. Otherwise it's a long fucking slog through bullshit to get anything from them, but at least their points never expire.

literally invite her to the gym.
Mention that you are going to start going to the gym to work on your own health (you need it) and figure since she's depressed she could come.
Help her out with how to do the machines and give her a specific series of sets and light cardio to do while you do your shit.
That should cure her depression, give her something to do that she would never do on her own, and should also definitely help you lose some weight, fatty.

I gave my dad a p320 for free since he was moving from a small town to a big city for the first time and has never handled a gun before.
I told him to just keep it in the box, its set to just point and shoot if he ever needs it.
I'll take him to the range if i ever give him a visit in the future.

One day my grandma called my dad and I over and handed us two of my Grandpa's old guns. It was a .22 Savage and a 12 ga sears special based on the Mossberg 500. At the time neither one of us were into guns. However, we did some research, cleaned them up (they were already in excellent condition), and shot them to honor my grandfather. We've both gone on to expand our collections. He kept the shotgun, I have the .22. It's still a great little plinker.

      >based on the Mossberg 500
I think I know what shotgun you were talking about, and anon, I...
      >Mossberg 500: Designed 1961
      >Sears Mod 20: Introduced 1946
      >JC Higgins line: Replaced 1962
If it's a JC Higgins or a Mod 20 it came before the 500 and IIRC from research a couple weeks back both were partially based on/inspired by a Remington design that came before either of them.

        Anonymous

It's labeled "Western Fields Model D 550" IIRC. I can't remember exactly, but it's absolutely a Mossberg 500 derivative, just from taking it apart. The only difference is it has a single action bar on the pump, which I think is consistent with older Mossy Designs.

          Anonymous

Weird; I haven't heard of that one! The 20 also has one action bar and from what I understand is similar-ish in design to a 500. Pumps smooth too. Has no loading gate, you just put the shells straight in. As someone not too into shotguns other than wanting a handful of models (nowhere to shoot them other than the patterning board at one fixed distance, maybe can shoot clays, don't want a ton of holes in my pelts when I hunt), it's a pretty neat shotgun. It's also known as the Flite King as it's actually made by High Standard.

Western Fields is a Montgomery-Ward’s label not sears. Their pumps were all mossbergs, my great grandfather has the same one.

NTA that has the Montgomery Ward but how the fuck did I not catch that when replying? Also fuck now I want a Montgomery Ward Mossberg fuck. I like the weird rebrands. I have two "Sears" or "JC Higgins" branded High Standard guns at this point.

I love store brand guns, I have a double barrel marked “American Gun Co” that was probably bought from sears by his father in law sometime in the late 1910’s and a JC Higgins 31 .22. Such cool guns and a neat bit of old school Americanism.

Grandpa also has a Marlin 30-30 with some hardware store brand on it, I don’t remember what it was but it was something basic. It wasn’t a JC Higgins or Ted Williams or anything. Story goes he won it in a raffle while stationed in Alaska sometime in the 50’s lol

              Anonymous

Is it a Revelation branded Marlin? Western Auto would be the only "hardware store" I can think of unless it was a semi-local chain. Ted Williams is the later (60s-70s+) Sears brand.

I am 90% sure your right in that it’s a Western Auto branded gun. I found a list of all their rebrands and nothing else rings a bell. It has one of those rear sights that is screwed onto the side of the gun and the hammer has an extension on the side like the Remington rolling block. I really ought to visit the old man this weekend, if I can convince him to bring it out I will update if this thread is still up.

He basically never shoots and he knows I’ll actually use the guns and he doesn’t want some other grandson getting the guns when he dies.
