It's not the NODs, it's the hunting at night. In my state you can't even camp overnight to hunt in the morning because that competitive timing edge. Hence you can use thermals, just not at night.

I never said digital nightvision is superior, it is however by orders of magnitude cheaper, generally has far superior image quality but is dog shit in regards to battery life.

Image quality, nah I'm going with crispy tubes vs a sionx or whatever. I've never seen anything truly impressive, certainly not better. Digital needs a pretty good amount of light to be usable and the refresh rate is kinda ass. Settings to refresh faster generally make the image darker and grainer. For real, would rather save pennies for a photonis then settle with anything digital for anything other than filming cool guy range stuff.
Calling a vapor-deposited structured thin film multichannel plate anything like vacuum tube is like comparing an incandescent lightbulb to a laser.
