Has anyone made their own AP ammo with Chinese tungsten fishing weights put inside of bullet casts and will it work against Boston Dynamics robots and level IV armor?

You know, they make tungsten and tubgsten nickle iron magnum shotgun loads. Those would damage numerous systems, wires, sensors, etc.

Yes, it's legal with a type 10 ffl. And we've had a few good AP ammo threads in the last year. Although the last AP anon working with tungsten was I think using cylinders intended for pen tip parts and such and the cutting/grinding them himself.

Last thread we tried to consider possibilities that would be "AP" but not violate the GCA. Turns out the GCA defines what is legally AP ammo in a badly precise way based on stuff Congress thought of at the time. Definition:
        >(i) a projectile or projectile core which may be used in a handgun and which is constructed entirely (excluding the presence of traces of other substances) from one or a combination of tungsten alloys, steel, iron, brass, bronze, beryllium copper, or depleted uranium; or
        >(ii) a full jacketed projectile larger than .22 caliber designed and intended for use in a handgun and whose jacket has a weight of more than 25 percent of the total weight of the projectile.
It doesn't do it by Mohs hardness or something. This leaves a lot of interesting stuff on the periodic table accessible. Tantalum is a promising candidate for example, as well as various advanced ceramics. It's easy to avoid the jacket weight thing with a high density core and then using polymer or aluminum or the like. Congress wasn't thinking digital CNC and ordering anything from alibaba back in 1968.

So if you don't want to go get a license to make AP ammo using restricted materials but are serious, look into non-restricted materials that we have available now but not back then. In 30 cal that should do it.

as guide points out there is the "handgun" bit too though that's pretty arbitrary. there is brass ammo sold open in .416 for example so clearly some stuff can get away, 50bmg too probably, stuff that literally has never had a functional handgun ever made.

        >Are you him? I just posted the mega link for the 1.0 pdf.
No, just another contributor/enjoyer not the main AP anon. I've only barely started experimenting with non-regulated materials.
        >Have updates dropped? Haven't seen an ap thread in a bit.
Last good thread was, I want to say, a few weeks ago maybe? I could have sworn I saved it but now I can't find it. If you search archive though for "tantalum" should get you there, that word doesn't show up very much on /k/. Very promising physical properties and density, though of course hard to shape. Pricing actually isn't terrible either (by AP ammo standards). If there was another PDF in that thread I don't remember either sadly, thanks for posting that one since I don't have it on this computer either.

The main point of interest for unregulated materials would be to just flat out do handgun ammo, or at least do rifle ammo and not let the ATF screw around with "well actually 308 could be a handgun round" BS. A real company could get into more exotic carbides and custom ceramic composites with dense metal foundation (18k maybe) but while I know the theory that's beyond straight forward home usage. There are custom makers for higher in china but min order size is significant.

Anyway, fun niche area to play with. Though I'd never really thought about the drone angle, that could actually become a real issue in my life, fug.

Pedantically, that language was written by NRA, not Congress.
Congress was originally contemplating language to the effect of "any ammunition that pierces police body armor", which would've included pretty much every rifle cartridge and all FMJ/solid loadings in magnum handgun cartridges.

Just get a .460 Weatherby Mag and handload .45-70 bullets. A 300gr copper solid moving 3000 FPS is going to shatter ribs with backface deformation and will break sensitive electronics with the shock even if the armor blocks the hit.

Both of the main APAnons are fine. There's a lot of us. Development is still in the works. Things just keep getting in the way, though. The new design is pretty fricking effective, way outclassing what the 1.0 guide had. One of the guys is in AWCY and working on their sabot project as well as the main apanon project.

If it's legally AP then no, he can make it for himself but only sell it to military/LEA. There is one small loophole wherein agencies themselves can sell stuff so a trickle or civilian legal AP rounds have appeared but for like $50-100 per ROUND or something utterly moronic like that. That's how a few have been tested in youtube and the like.

A civilian legal enhanced penetration round would be a challenging but interesting product.
