They're legal to own, but you aren't allowed to install them.
And if you do own them the ~~*atf*~~ will insist that intend to install it, and will come and shoot your dog.

totally legal, I got mine from JSEsurplus (KAK). JSE has said they don't keep purchase records of stuff like that; check their reddit account

why would anyone even buy this? the only real reason is to convert your AR to full-auto. you can’t explain otherwise to the feds unless you have a SOT or FFL (and you don’t).

I fail to see the point of why any random guy would buy this. I’m even more surprised that you CAN buy this, given how strictly auto sears are regulated. This reeks of glowBlack persony

you can buy parts kits for AUGs, FALs, all sorts of shit that includes the full auto pack. Why should ARs be different?

that’s exactly my point. if full-auto is so heavily regulated then why are the parts supposedly so easy to get? is that not suspicious? does the ATF not know that any rando who gets this is most likely planning on secretly making a backyard machine gun?

These are all valid questions, anon. And it’s why I’m really suspicious at how easily you can buy these. surely you get put on some kind of list if you do.

Probably because there's a lot of spare parts left over when you take the receiver away from a full auto gun.

because receivers are pretty much all that matters.
Plus anyone can 3d print a Choosy Express V2 in half an hour so none of this shit matters for criminals anyways

so if someone buys a receiver built to M16 specs and then buys this will they get arrested? where does the ATF draw the line?

ATF doesn’t care if you bathe in auto sears. Just don’t have that 3rd hole.

You break the law when you drill the third hole in the receiver.
Almost all AR receivers sold today aren't milled out where the FA trigger pack would go, so even if you tried to put the parts in, they wouldn't fit unless you went hogg wild with a lathe or dremel tool... so there's that.

            >lathe
I would love to see someone try to mill out a fire control pocket with a lathe

A lathe is just a mill on it's back with a very long z-axis.
You put the tool in the chuck and clamp the receiver to a milling plate on the saddle.

I'm old, so I'll tell you how it was before I explain how it currently is. Back in the 1980's, depending on the serial number stamped on a AR-15, they were separated into back then what we called red label and green label. Red labels could have the naughty hole, green label could not. This was divided by manufacturing date. Red labels were highly sought after. Because all you needed to do was drop in the full auto parts for rock n' roll fun. The full auto parts were sold separately in a little bag, usually right next to the rifles.. Back then ATF said guns were guns and parts were parts. As long as you didn't put naughty parts in a naughty hole red label without the right paperwork, you were good. Eventually they started saying if ANY single one of the naughty parts got into a naughty hole gun, then you go to prison. Then it became if you got the parts and ANY AR-15, you go to prison. Eventually (and where we are now) any naughty parts even if you own no guns is possession of a machine gun if you no have stamp and proper paperwork. So it's either a really stupid trap, or some very serious don't give no fricks.

Yeah but that's not laws that's just a spicy opinion from the ATF

Until we can get the SCOTUS to neuter ATF rulemaking, which I'm still hopeful for, their bullshit carries the weight of law.

Interesting if true. I think there's a few other options.
#1 The plan is to one day go full moron regarding the ambiguous "readily restored" language defining machine guns.
#2 They know that Bubba's DIY M16 is almost never used in crime, so it's not a big priority to track him down.
#3 They defacto acknowledge the ubiquity of Glock switches, swift links, etc and are too lazy to actually track down people buying parts which are technically legal.
#3B They are actually excited by the proliferation of illegal autos among certain communities, because it scares suburban "common sense" voters.

It shouldn't be, but there's this thing called "constructive possession" that let's the ATF make you life a living hell whether you actually break the law or not.
