Right hand writing, but left eye dominant, so I switched hands trying to find what works best.

    >Right hand writing, but left eye dominant
I'm the opposite and I shoot the best left handed and holding the gun a little more centered so it likes up with my right eye more. I throw and do sports right handed but still shoot better left handed because I have more time doing fine motor control with my fingers so my trigger pull is more consistent.

You should patch your targets or switch targets, it will make it easier to track your groups as well as shooting less, maybe 10 rounds at a time while you’re just practicing

Jesus fricking Christ anon, reduce distance and slow the frick down. You shoot like you’re holding your gun sideways.

My groups were shit with a Sub2k at 15 yards, just trying to figure out the point of aim. When I got it figured out, I got those three hits on the A though. My point here is that when you're new to a gun, let alone new to shooting like OP obviously is, you're going to have shit groups until you dial things in and get used to your gun. OP is doing the right thing by demonstrating his shame and asking for advice, Anon.

Wait, so you guys are shooting like this with long guns?

          Anonymous

Lel, nah, not always. This was my first box through the Sub2k about a week and a half ago, so a large portion of that was the celebratory mag dump to christen it, then picking out spots to put groups to reference my point of aim. You know, normal shit you do when you first get a gun as goofy as this.

Unrelated question, how much do you weigh?

        I get what you’re saying
I get really autistic about all my shots on one target not being at least patched up
Typically my groups with long guns at such a short distance is at most one inch

You need to work on controlling your breathing. Breathe naturally. Inhale, exhale, Inhale, exhale, then before breathing back in, fire. Do not hold your breath, instead fire at the natural trough between exhale and Inhale.

I know bro, like I side, I was figuring out the point of aim and picking out places to put the groups after the initial mag dump. Once I figured out how high I needed to place the front sight, I got that group of three on the A at the head.

Imagine posting this and not being embarrassed

Reduce it? To what? The shortest distance I’ve every shot was 10 yards. I was basically forced to start shooting pistol at 25 and now anything shorter is easy as frick. Not saying OP should do this just curious

5 until most of his shots are in the 9 and 10 ring. Then out to 7, then 10. If you’re not completely incompetent it shouldn’t take long to accomplish.

Nothing to be embarrassed about, Anon. We all do silly things when we're new to something and we should have enough humility to acknowledge when we suck. But I'm willing to learn from the experts. Can you post your groupings and give us a master class?

What was taught to me and what has worked well for me is
Good firm grip but not too tight, pull the trigger straight back, only focus on the front sight, your rear sight and target should be blurry and to think of the rear sight as something you are looking through

Some guys had some okay advice here, OP. What you should do is just shoot with your dominant hand. If you're using something like isosceles or weaver stance, your dominant eye shouldn't matter so much... Not that it doesn't matter at all, but you're better off with a handgun doing things like this than with a long arm. Anyway, I've included a little chart that can help you diagnose how you're fricking up and for your weird left eye-right hand dominance thing, try and find some help from YouTube or something.

It makes me wonder because you can usually just adjust your sights to compensate, so long as you don’t have extreme problems and mostly know what you’re doing
If I shoot from a rest, removing as much human error as possible and my shots are way the frick off in one way or another I adjust my sights

You're anticipating recoil with your right hand and you're jerking the trigger. Smooth straight pull, don't anticipate. Left hand see pic.

If you're shooting that inaccurately 99% of the time it's this, if you can't just stop try mixing snap caps in to your mag randomly. Helps you notice and reduce flinch and train for failures.

There is something very wrong here and it's not your cross-eye dominance.
Go back to the .22 at 25m until you've got the basics nailed.

if he cant hit shit at 9 meters what makes you think he will manage at 25?

        Anonymous

Because a .22 isn't going to have huge fat "combat" sights and takes recoil out of the equation. It's a lot easier than you think.

It's the kind of shooting you see when a noguns gets invited by a hasguns to the range and someone just plops a pistol in his hands and tells him to shoot. So of course all of his shots are flying wide based on how he is overpowering the trigger and pushing the muzzle down to fight recoil. It is the same mistake literally everyone makes. Thankfully they are both easy fixes. Just stop fricking doing those things

It's easier to get the basics down on a .22.
Significantly easier and those habits transfer, that's why everyone gets taught with a .22 at 25m.

It helps in that you can shoot it more since ammo is cheap… and honestly even with the much smaller caliber the repetition of practice with proper form is gonna help more than any other singular piece of advice… the more frequently you shoot the better results your gonna see..

90% of new shooter handgun issues I've seen is from bad grip or bad arm form. Torsos also aren't good for noobs to test groups with because there's no repeatable place to aim at. That comes later once you've shot at a bunch of ipsc a zones.

I'm left handed, right eye dominant, and do lots of things (mainly playing half a dozen instruments) right handed, and find shooting right handed far more natural. Might just also be a case of picking one and getting a shitload more practice, my groups sucked when I started too.

Do you know how to break a trigger? Practice during dry fire. Find the wall, and try to be able to break the trigger without moving the sights. Dry fire for 20 minutes a day until you can get the trigger to break reliably. If you’re just fumbling in the dark without knowing where the trigger will break during the pull, you’re gonna have a ton of errant shots.

      Anonymous

Also, from your circled images, you’re seriously jerking your trigger. You’re pulling your left handed shots low right and right handed shots low left, which is highly indicative you have no idea how to break the trigger. Dry fire more, and you’ll improve quickly.

Also, make sure you’re not sympathetically clenching your trigger finger by having your firing hand grip too tight. Keep your firing hand grip firm but not strained, and your support hand grip very tight.

I have a gen 1 shield and even dry firing it's still just a b***h to actually shoot straight. Gonna get a trigger kit for it probably, or maybe sell it. Idk.

        >Dry fire more
Not him but dry fire does nothing for me. I can dryfire perfectly at home but at the range I will still break my wrist down for about 30% of the shots. Maybe the grip angle just sucks for me and I should get a different gun

    not fuking kidding here:
    Load five rounds
Point the front blade at the target.
Squeeeeeeze the trigger over and over.
Follow through - this means after you fire the shots you run away and then you travel to another state and shut up and stay there until you know nobody want's to "talk to you to clear things up"

What stance do you guys take when shooting? I'm still trying the classic isosceles but i'm slowly shifting into a weaver stance which helps me get my sight picture really fast when drawing.
