Hamas briefing papers talk about vulnerabilities in Trophy. It would certainly look bad for Israel if their signature APS can be defeated by simple RPGs. It might be even worse if the IDF's conscripts were too uneducated to use it correctly.

Yeah, short range. Dead zones. This wasn't one. They weren't close enough.
It was an average RPG-7 that got intercepted.

and what if their just making bullshit up for the sake of making their soldiers feel good and make them think that their basic ass rpg 7 can actually do something against that system
like yeah there are some ways to defeat trophy by simply shooting from areas that arent covered by it or by firing incredibly slow or fast projectiles but that isnt always possible or is just impractical
also what does Hamas even fucking know about trophy?
they barely have any experience themself fighting against it and only now started really having to go against that system

              >and what if their just making bullshit up for the sake of making their soldiers feel good
It sounds like it - engaging from close up is a easy way to improve hit probability even with untrained troops and the assumption that the APS doesn't try to engage tank rounds is not too far fetched.
Now you just need to get your hands on an ATGM that reaches the speeds of kinetic penetrators (~5000 fps) and you are all set.

The other thing to consider is how many ATGMs they've launched at these Trophy-equipped vehicles that haven't made it through. I read one Israeli newspaper article that mentioned "hundreds" of ATGMs having been fired but were not very effective. I have no idea if that's true or not.

There are tunnels under Rafah border with Egypt, where Israel exerts significantly less control.
Al Sisi’s government is corrupt and incompetent, so they pay border guards to look the other way when they use these tunnels to transport fuel and weapons through their network.

11 now. Maybe. Hard to identify the vehicle in the footage but the KIA were all in the same Namer APC.

IDF now claims 16 of their army men have been killed. Nine in the Namer, two separately in the same brigade from an RPG. Two soldiers in a tank that got 'sploded from an IED. One by mortar fire. Then two earlier on at the start of the invasion. I think this is accurate.

They claim they've killed "thousands" of Hamas and around 1,500 during the first few days. I think this is probably exaggerated. You always talk up the number of bad guys you're killing. Hamas and Islamic Jihad have "tens of thousands" of fighters.

israelites would never lie for sales, or face, or getting one over on the goyim. I think we can trust them.

        >I read one Israeli newspaper article

          >They claim they've killed "thousands" of Hamas and around 1,500 during the first few days.
Yeah, that's obviously nonsense lol. There were only, what, 7000 ISIS guys getting bombed to smithereens daily in Mosul and that still took 9 months. And ISIS didn't have tunnels.

            Anonymous

I imagine the upward estimates on their strength is more hypothetical. It also doesn't mean everyone shows up.

One interesting thing is that the livemap will mark the locations of where Israeli vehicles have been spotted, but then this Hamas video of the RPG attack came out, and that's closer to Gaza city than any previous marker on the western side. So they did score some hits, but it's also contradictory evidence because they've already broken through in other areas for that to happen where it did.

            Anonymous

Well, we know that at least several hundred Hamas fighters were killed at the start of the war when the IDF pushed them back into Gaza.

Not to mention, Gaza is in a constrained space that basically surrounded by Israeli airbases, so they generally have more accurate intel and faster response time, translating in higher sortie rates than the US having to fly planes all the way from Baghdad to Mosul. The IDF have also been dropping heavy enough ordnance that a lot of said tunnels have probably collapsed, restricting Hamas' movements even more.

              Anonymous

I hadn't thought about sortie rates. The tunnel the Israelis attacked in the refugee camp also looked horrific. Looked like they dropped something very big and then the ground collapsed and took buildings with it into a sinkhole of secondary explosions.

The 1500 dead is confirmed on ID's of retrieved bodies.
The Israelis dropped thousands of bombs and artillery shells at this point. A few thousand Hamas casualties in the strip is quite believable, though I'm not surprised Israel wouldn't know exactly how many.

            Anonymous

I mean, I can believe they piled up 1500 bodies, but how many were just random civilians or non-combatant Hamas members from their civil service or political bureau? I remember Israel made a big deal about killing some old woman on their political council, I doubt that affected Hamas' combat abilities.

            >"You can't carpet bomb Gaza! You have to go building by building, and risk your men to IEDs, mines, booby traps, drones, ATGMs, etc!"
the brits and americans bombed dresden WHILE THERE WERE STILL CIVILIANS in there. why cant the idf do it when gaza is mostly vacant after a month long siege.

I think the idea was to basically target the labor force and paralyze the military production processes of Germany. Or target factories at least in theory but when you're flying 3,000 bombers over a city and telling them to dump everything, then you're also blowing up everything.

Very different cultural attitudes back in the '40s, when states still accepted the idea of "total war" doctrine where every level of a nation is focused on supporting a war.

Not to mention, smart weapons didn't exist, so if you were going to be targeting entire industrial districts that were the size of small cities themselves, you'd need a LOT of bombs to take it out.

It was until Vietnam that attitudes towards mass carpet bombing started to turn, which coincided with the rise of antiwar movements and the development of cost effective smart bombs.

idf already communicated that this is a fight for the Israel's survival. the overwhelming majority of Israelis want Gaza to turn into Sodom and Gomorrah. the Americans would send the idf an angry smiley emoji but forget about it in 2 mobths. the other middle eastern countries will send another last final ultimate red line OR ELSE warning.

Israel may very well only have one more generation of net-support from the general public in Western nations; Hamas+Al Jazeera are absolutely winning the hearts and minds of westerners. Eventually these anti-Israeli westerners will assume more positions of power in government and finance than the older pro-Israel generations, and Israel will find herself isolated from these people. Israel does need to peacefully resolve at least the West Bank occupation within a generation or so, or find herself being totally perceived as another pariah nation to the West akin to Iran and communist China.

                >Gaza may very well only have 15 more minutes of net-support from the general public in Western nations before compassion fatigue and mistrust set in; Hamas+Al Jazeera are absolutely blackpilling the hearts and minds of westerners, who already mistrust terrorists, Islamic fundamentalists, and especially large media. Eventually these anti-Israeli westerners will assume inconsequential positions of insignificance in their parents' basements and Israel will find herself continuing to not give a fuck about terminally online /misc/turds. Israel does need to peacefully resolve a goddamn thing anymore, for the same reason nobody gives a shit about Uyghurs, Tibet, Myanmar, Sudan, Turkey exterminating Kurds or the genocide of 2 million Armenians or the more recent displacement of 50k from Nagorno-Karabakh by Azeris because most people who support these causes are doing so to demonstrate in-group value signalling among socially-conscious leftists with 0 societal or political influence rather than induce any real social or governmental change. That's why there's a lot of people shouting in the streets but not doing much else - all bark and no bite

No , it was moral bombing. Specifically targeting civilians.

Dresden actually was a terror bombing; it was a cultural site with very little war industry. I mean fuck the Nazis but that was prob a mistake on our part.

Fun fact: Dresden was rebuilt using historic techniques and as much of the original building material as possible. If you visit today, and you should, you'll see that roughly 20% of the blocks still have char from the bombing/firestorm. Additionally, the firestorm, not the bombs themselves, did the most damage. Many buildings collapsed days after the bombing from thermal expansion/contraction caused by the massive fires.
