If you're doing white guy adventure in a country like Sierra Leone or Liberia then you're really doing like Executive Outcomes which would be 40-80 white guys who speak Afrikaans with experienced black African trackers recruited from Southern African countries with around 15-20 years experience of counter-insurgent warfare.

      >Haitians wearing matching tacticool gear
      VGH. RETVRN TO TRADITION.

The erasure of traditional cultures in the modern world by global homogenisation is truly sad

Read a book about that Sierra Leone civil war and it was pretty interesting. (I don't know if those guys were from there or Liberia but they were intertwined wars.) Those soldiers wearing the bizarre outfits would've been high on crack and believed that the different accessories they were wearing possessed magic powers (like israeliteelry that can deflect bullets), and press-ganging male children and raping the women and girls in areas they overran a normal routine, and also cutting off the limbs, noses, ears, genitals, etc. of prisoners.

EO basically annihilated the RUC in Sierra Leone by actively hunting them down... or more like culling them. Like take two platoons of 20 South Africans each, carrying 10-12 magazines + double-stacked magazine in their rifles, go out in the bush and hunt them in a rough line formation. Once making contact, everyone goes prone and starts firing, pacing their fire in intervals between them so it's constant as others reload. They shoot at anything that looks like a target, while also shooting at anything where targets could be, or shoot through mud huts, or to just shoot at things to kick up rocks and chips and debris in the general direction of the rebels.

The rebels wouldn't even do a fighting retreat like in Angola. They'd just run... down predictable footpaths pre-sighted with 82mm mortars. And the moment the shooting started, EO's helicopter gunships would arrive. Like I said, it wasn't hunting, it was culling. The war was over in a few months.

Yeah but I think they'd admit it wouldn't have been possible without the trackers recruited from the highlands and plateaus of Namibia, Zambia, etc. They also trained and relied on the Kamajors which are the traditional hunting secret societies of Sierra Leone.

also let's be real here. EO was the cream of the crop with decades of organized combat experience and the RUC were drug addicts used to terrorizing civilians and child soldiers.

Also on the Kamajors, they could behave in battle a lot like the rebels -- they weren't very nice to prisoners. The clothes smell as bad as they look, they wouldn't wash them, and put them on before battle as magical armor. The same for the headdresses. They'd also wear amulets with little containers containing body parts of their enemies.

I think the South Africans had a simple method of training: pick the top 10% and focus on training them and forget about the rest.
