I run with a 12 pound vest for the time being. I ran with my 25 pound vest too many times in a short period of time and fucked my knees up bad. I'm lucky I'm still young and able to recover from it, but man, did I learn to take it easy with those workouts.

You shouldn't be running in a plate carrier until you are running 5 miles in 40 minutes. After you get that, you can play with your perversions like running in gear/boots if you want.

And for all the twinks, that's while repping 225 on DL and 1RM 225 on bench.

. Yeah, that's how I fucked my shit up. I run 2 miles at most and do other leg workouts on different days. Thanks for the advice.

      Stop going heel down first.

Good fucking luck. How do you even change that? Send me some good links. Been running for ages, try to fix posture, try to fix heel strike, buy Altra no-rise shoes. Still heelstrike.

          Not hard at all.
Are you that lazy you can't google or youtube "how to run properly"? You need to learn how to land mid foot strike, don't have your legs fully extended because that shit is pretty much guaranteed to make you land heel first, control knee lift, lean forward slightly so the foot is more under neath you and not infront of you when your foot makes contact, relax your shoulders and arms.

NTA but holy shit I didn't know, I just though it was walking faster but I tried your advice and it's so much easier. I know this is normally said sarcastically but thank you, I never learned how to properly run beyond "go faster"

Right. I am sure magically contorting into a completely new movement pattern won't fuck all your shit up.

It doesn't, try it. Run with your chest slightly forward, don't fully extend your leg to hit the ground, and run on the balls of your feet. Your calves will feel pretty rough at first but they'll get used it and you can give your knees a break.

Run barefoot. Even if it's just in a gym or something.
You will automatically stop heel striking.

it's not magic, you landing mid foot doesn't defy physics and make all that force dissapear
your body isn't meant for running carrying all that weight for long term

          Anonymous

100% this. I lift in my plate carrier and hike with a ruck, but hell no to running. Even after a LOT of training to correct form and posture, the force of the impact still has to go somewhere. Humans are meant to do mostly body weight exercise, stray from that baseline (in either direction really) and you'll have problems down the road

          Anonymous

you're supposed to land on the balls of your feet so that your calves can act as a spring to absorb the impact.

          >it's not magic, you landing mid foot doesn't defy physics and make all that force dissapear
You might as well say "plates aren't magic, a bullet hitting your plate doesn't defy physics and make all that force disappear".
No, of course it doesn't, it just spreads that force out over a wider physical area so it doesn't cause an injury. Same way a mid-foot running gate spreads force out of a longer time period as your ankle joint, Achilles tendon and calf muscle to absorb the impact of each step.

Right. I am sure magically contorting into a completely new movement pattern won't fuck all your shit up.

It won't. It doesn't. It's a much more natural running gait, the only reason heel striking has become more common is due to built-up running shoes that have fucked out shit up.

I'd agree with you for the most part, but sometimes it's good to head out to airsoft with the boys and have a little fun running around at the field in your kit. I wouldn't do serious running, but some windsprints into isometrics and calisthenics that airsoft provides is a good way to vet your kit and have a nice day outside with frens.

Yeah, I can get that. Me and a couple of my mates have done airsoft or hunting trips in full tactical gear a few times for the memes and to vet our kits. Good fun.

I never got the point of running in gear. Like I'll hike in gear and run in my sweatpants and running shoes but moving fast in gear is just a miserable experience nobody should do unless that's their job or something bad happened on their LARP excursion

Nah. Fitness is important but running in gear is fucking miserable.

I run every 2nd day, either lift or box most evenings and go hiking pretty regularly. That's enough to cover all my bases as far as exercise goes imo.
Thing running in gear does more effectively than conventional cardio is make you better at running in gear. The chance that I'll ever be in a situation where that matters is just not worth the discomfort.

If the larp aspect of running in gear tickles your autism enough to get you out the door though then go right ahead OP. Definitely better than laying around like some useless fat slug of a person.

Not sure what's so unbelievable. I'm not making any wild claims. When you're senior, you're already removed from most physical tasks and you get a bit more leeway. I agree that if I was more junior, there'd be a medboard. You can actually return to full duty after a spinal fusion.
The point is not to run in kit. Lift and do weighted rucks, but don't run.

I knew a guy in for nearly 40 years, he was fucked but was a sgt who just did paperwork supervised range safety. His plan was to hit 40 years, get an excellent pension then punch out with a medical report that would help get him more benefits. Stuff like this is literally only good for getting used to being miserable. If you're going to run in plates make sure you do it when it's also raining after you've stayed up all night. Do like 15 miles with no water.

When you get home and your nipples are bleeding and you're hypothermic, dehydrated, and hallucinating from exhaustion you will have increased your mental toughness. Smoke like 3-4 cigarettes and wash like 8 naproxen down with a monster and you'll be good to go.

There is nothing to be gained through running and exercise with 60lb of extra shit on your body that a combination of regular weight and cardio training won't achieve with much less wear and tear on your joints, tendons and ligaments.
This is basically like you saying that just because pilots might need to eject, it's good to practice ejecting on a regular basis to build up tolerance to it. No it's not, you're just gonna fuck up your spine, retard.
