8mm? Helps a lot if you measure it.

yea it loads in my g98 without effort 8mm no doubt but the paint and black rubber ring at the base of the bullet is odd

What you're calling a "black rubber ring" is neck sealant. That's standard on military ammo. The tip being painted is also standard for military ammo, it's a color code for the type of bullet.

Like others have said post a pic of the case head.

if it rattle too, .303 british cordite load

Rattle can be an indicator of cordite but whatever that is it's not .303; .303 is a rimmed cartridge.

forgot the .303 is rimmed is usually rimmed even if rimless exist too, but going from most probable, can be a french 7.5x54 but the don't know why the rattle.
if you get the dimension would be quite a lot easier, look look it got quite some taper, like 1mm, a thing of most service cartridge pre ww2.

I just had a wild idea: if the rattle isn't cordite, perhaps the rattle is the loose firing pin in one of those explosive bullets.
    >looked up 8mm mauser variants on Wikipedia
    >the color code (black primer/neck sealant and yellow paint) matches
    I think it's a b-patrone. I wouldn't shake it too much.
