I know the “real gun to game creation” is whack but I like the concept. Compact rifle build with a sturdier stock and medium range scope for well placed shots. Kinda what I’ve been building my AR to be. Good blend of tactical efficiency and comfortable ranged accuracy.

What kind of stopping power can you even get out of that thing, between the short barrel, cylinder gap and the generally weak properties of black powder? My full size guns make a nice boom and all, but the actual bullet impact is I feel anemic at best. If performance isn't greatly reduced I'd consider cutting one of them down for the aesthetics

Doing a New Vegas run with a sniper/shotgun build, with STR 7 and LK 8. At level 14, I have Finesse, Shotgun Surgeon, and And Stay Back, Stealth 85, Guns 85, a modded hunting rifle (can't remember how you get Paciencia) , a riot shotgun, .22 Submachine gun, and Ratslayer, and I'm wearing Vault 34 security armor (better DT than combat armor while being light) and Combat Helm Mk 2.
I never realized how fricking broken shotguns are in NV. Riot shotgun loaded with flechettes along with the above perks means you're essentially untouchable in close range combat and can merk Centurions in seconds, and 4/0 Buck is awesome against creatures. After I decimate the legion I'll figure out how this build does against NCR rangers given that they're much better in long range combat, but so far I haven't found an npc in the game that can survive a .308 AP sneak critical to the head, especially after you take Better Criticals. And I've also been wanting to try if Pulse Slugs are effective against Brotherhood Paladins.
Question for NV veterans, what's the point of Dragon's Breath and beanbag rounds? It looks like DB gives some fire damage but does slightly less direct damage, while Beanbag rounds are a nonlethal option to knock down NPCs. What's the point?
Shotgun perks in NV are my favorite. A fully spec'd out hunting shotgun blowing fiends to bits and ragdolling hit squads was my jam. Always with "That Gun" as a sidearm and a high LCK stat. Tie it all together with a 1st recon beret and thats the same build I always end up playing.
I imagine Dragons breath was added to give a weapon other the the flamer/incinerator fire damage and to make perks like pyromaniac more worthwhile. I'd also guess it was added because it's cool and was pretty trendy at the time, Cod Black ops came out around the same time and also added a dragons breath ammunition to some shotguns.

beanbag is for nonlethal runs, just like the boxing gloves and hand tape. gives you a ranged option next to the melee and unarmed. I could never commit to a full playthrough because knockout damage doesn't scale well or go through armor, but it does work in the early game and I figure if you leaned hard into sneaking and talking your way out of fights you could do a zero kill run.
Beanbag is for if, for some reason, you wanted to try knocking down enemies instead of killing them, fatigue weapons were kind of an afterthought in NV so it doesn't have much use outside of pacifist runs.
DB is pretty much just flavor, its about as good as regular shotgun ammo on everything that regular shotgun ammo is good against.

Perhaps you're playing New Vegas Bounties II which actually has mechanics for taking bounties alive. Other than that almost nothing.
DB is also for when you're fighting cazadores and suck at actual FPS aiming. The blast area on it - shotgun breath weapon, really - makes it easier to eyeball in combat. Otherwise, flavor only.
Also, all that work to bring shotguns to the Legion and no coin slugs? Render unto Caesar by way of blasting denarii back to them.
10mm pistol, no matter its incarnation. I used to hate the Fo4 design until I realized that it's absurd size actually makes it a perfect fit for the games power armor, just like how the Halo M6D is very clearly intended for Spartans. I lament the loss of the 10mm SMG from 4 but I kind of like the idea of the pistol itself functionally replacing it with the auto variation.

For all the things it did wrong, I liked how Fallout 4 allowed you to rename and consistently upgrade weapons, so a weapon you find early on can in theory accompany you through your entire playthrough

The laser weapons were always my favorite, I can't wait to see how much more advanced laser emitter become in our lifetimes. Playing a luck character with laser commando in NV would let you use the same starter laser pistol the entire game, you just fried everything

This is also acceptable, at least for infantry. I just think the 63 would go with the 'looks good with power armour' cope Bethesda used to explain the horrible ass-salt rifle in 4. It's blocky and utilitarian, using a lot of stamped parts and helps sell the image of America being an undustrial powerhouse shitting out thousands of guns at once.
There are so many wacky gun prototypes from the 50s and onward. The artists drew inspiration from zero of them, regurgitated WWI-WWII crap into a blender, and called it 'retro'.
The guns in 4 are awful, which is hilarious considering they ripped off the customization shit from modders and then did it wrong.

Are there any Fallout guns youd redesign? I have always felt the 10mm didnt really feel like it made sense in the fallout world, being as huge as it is. I figured it would have more looked like an updated 1911, like the 70s prototype or the Double Eagle, but keeping the more military finish
Easy. The DKS-501 sniper rifle. Maybe a take down version. The sniper rifle in NV was cool and all but I didn’t even realize it was the supposed to be the DkS from OG fallout.
It's got the skeletonized stock and lacks the stupid hazard paint. Plus it has a bipod that acts as a foregrip when folded, which it always is. But yeah same rifle otherwise.

There's a few unique weapons that aren't necessarily appreciably better than their generic counterparts. It really is how crazy versatile the hunting shotgun is, it's a shame about the wonky animations. But I guess that's what mods are for.

I never even knew northwest vegas existed until I looked up some guns online. My first two playthroughs had nothing to do with cass, lucy, or even arcade even though I had talked to him. Didn't even know he could be a companion. Boone was the first companion I had, but I quickly ditched him since he's such a sad person. Only positive attitudes on my crew. Raul can be my sidekick anytime since he's a gunslinger I can respect.

It's better for Joshua's soul to not kill the White Legs leader. In a practical sense it doesn't really matter because leaving him alive only causes his tribe to endlessly bicker and in-fight until they scatter to the winds.
I wish there was an option to badly injure the leader, for thematic reasons. Like you were a scoundrel who was shot, Joshua was a mass murderer who was burned, and now you've got this war chief with IDK broken legs or something. It'd be like a thematic parallel, powerful men not on God's path being scourged and left for dead but not killed.

It's less about the Sorrows or the Dead Horses and more about Joshua's soul at that point. Salt's done for, his own dudes saw him literally begging like a piss-baby, there's no coming back as a leader from that. Still, I also like to be sure. Let him die fighting.

That didn't happen, Salt-Upon-Wounds retreated and the rest of the White Legs saw him as weak and it created infighting that destroyed their tribe.
I came to the same conclusion for the same reason. You don't get to be innocent forever, but that doesn't make you a monster, either. While sparing Salt-Upon-Wounds gets you the best ending, I usually tend to go for killing him in a fair fight, because I feel like my Courier would want to be "sure," but also want to help haul Joshua back from the edge of another spiral into self-indulgent violence.
It's a real pity, because the quest you get from siding with Daniel is more fun than Joshua's "Let's just kill ALL the white legs."

Honest Hearts has good character writing, an interesting environment, nice new weapons, but most of the quests are shiiiiiiiiiit. Like 90% of them are just fetch quests. I do really like Joshua AND Daniel though. The only other DLC characters I liked nearly as much were Elijah and God.
Out of interest, what actually happens in the Daniel ending? New Vegas is literally my favourite game and I must have played Honest Hearts over a dozen times and I have never been able to bring myself to actually do it. Unless I was actually doing a pacifist run I don't even see why I would, because by that point I would've killed well over a hundred people just for looking at me funny.

That sounds pretty sensible all things considered. It's a fricking stupid decision to make and he should feel bad for it. Still, kind of annoyed the devs didn't add a little more granularity to the stories, the endings of Dead Money and Old World Blues rely heavily on the characters you meet along the way. Still better than Lonesome Road though.

Most annoying thing in New Vegas are those plant men. Base game and three DLCs, albeit one of those is a reskin. And for some reason quest modders LOVE including them.
The lethality of the Tihar is implausible. You would need a much larger air tank, and something more powerful than a bike pump. I think the rail gun modification from Exodus/ hellbreath have more merit as weapons. It would be really resource intensive to make a rail gun though. The hellsing from last light has my vote as an homebuilt air weapon, the use of arrows allows use of lower velocity for lethality. Still would need an on board electric air compressor to get decent results fast. A game mechanic where you have to "charge" the airgun while in cover instead of pump a fricking bb gun up sounds better to me.

Protip: Heave, Ho! applies to any weapon with a ballistic arc, even if it isn't thrown. This makes it useful for explosive weapons couriers.
I've put easily over 2000 hours into NV and never knew this.
Don't feel bad, I didn't know for ages either. Doesn't help that I don't tend to go deep into the explosive perk tree most playthroughs.

I liked the Uboyneg shotgun from the first Metro. Needlessly overcomplicated revolver shotgun that they actually programmed the 4 shell / cycle / +2 more shell reloading animation which you can interrupt by firing.

I tried to do a smart weapons/SMG/AR build and it just wasn't nearly as fun as shotgun/body. Playing with Tech guns and seeking SMGs made it feel like a run of thr mill shooter.

I'm playing through NV for the first time at the moment. Going down an explosives build, mainly using Thump Thump and a hunting shotgun and a TON of hand grenades. Siding with NCR/House for now. Just went to meet Caesar, stole all the denarius (denarii?) from the fort, made a bunch of coin shot rounds once I got back to cottonwood cove and proceeded to give the legion back their money. Very satisfying.
I keep switching between guns for my non explosive sidearm, though. Played the most with That Gun and the lever action probably, riot shotgun a close second.

Not strictly speaking true, the opinions of normies do not and have never mattered, and even in its most bug-ridden piece of shit state New Vegas was pulling 8/10s. It just demanded a lot more patience than it does in its modern stable-ish form, though I HATE having to un-patch the performance patches they did for console gays.
It also has a slow start, I remember being a little dissapointed at first running around Goodsprings with the "9mm 1911". But then hoo-wee it starts rolling and doeant stop.
Now I rarely ever get much past the Goodsprings area, exploring those lonely desert hills is my favorite part of the game.

By there very nature video games can't have symbolic themes unless they are completely railroaded or a movie (taletell type shit) which fundamentally is taking out the game part of the game and should just be a movie at that point.
