Gunbroker Scam

I placed a bid on gun broker for some magazines. After I placed my bid I noticed that the seller only accepts USPS money order, I immediately contacted the seller asking if he could retract my bid because I do not want to use USPS money order, his response was pretty sketchy and he told me to use PayPal family and friends or venmo instead and that he would not retract my bid. He then told me that I can trust him and that he sells on gunbroker all the time, but when I checked his profile he has only sold like 10 items over the past couple years. I am pretty sketched out by this and I do not want to pay him, I contacted gun broker support and explained the situation and they pretty much told me to get fricked. If I use a VPN and make another account to bid over myself and not pay whay are the chances GB will recognize that its me on an alt and ban my accounts?

Just don't pay. There's no consequences other than a report to GB from the seller, and if the seller is sketchy like you say, he'll probably just accept the loss and move on to the next moron.
You zoomers need to realize that a lot of this money shit is just fake. There are literally no real-world consequences for not paying a debt, flaking out on a seller, etc.

Being able to buy gun stuff from private sellers is with a credit card is rare. The average joe doesn't have a commercial credit card processing setup and services like PayPal or venmo, etc, explicitly ban their services for being used for gun stuff. Money orders are the norm for this kind of thing. I'm not sure why you think this is a scam.

You missed out on by far the most important: DON'T PAY EXCEPT BY CREDIT CARD. Then you always have chargebacks in the worst case. CC companies do not give a flying shit about merchants and will cheerfully screw them in your favor for better or worse particularly if you're high tier. And of they try to change the payment after you have a cut and dry violation.

Make a burner account, outbid yourself, and then don’t pay. Next time make sure the seller is willing to work with you for payment options or use credit card

You can't remove bids on gunbroker, dumbass. Only gunbroker admins can do that. Once you place a bid, even if the seller blocks you as a bidder, you can still potentially win the item if nobody else bids. Most private sales on tacswap, gunbroker, falfiles, akfiles, arfcom, gunboards etc all have similar terms of sale as yours. USPS Money Order, Paypal/Venmo f&f, Zelle, or CashApp. Your layman can't accept credit cards as we aren't businesses.

        Gunbroker closed this program.

PayPal business has a 3% fee. Pay him 103% of the bid and shipping amount and if he israelites you make a claim with PayPal and get your money back. They always side with the buyer.

When you put "for gunbroker item #812349283" in the comment, it will be automatically flagged, and both of your accounts banned. Or if he does scam you and you "make a claim," then they will ban your account immediately with no recourse because you broker their terms of service.

Money order fraud is prosecuted pretty consistently. You have better protection with money orders than you do with debit cards.

Sounds like they charge you money to replace your money-order when a mail carrier loses it or your mail gets stolen, doesn't sound like they care what the money-order is actually being used for.

              Anonymous

Banks also charge you for a new card when it gets lost or stolen. What’s your point?

Doesn't sound like they in any way protect you from scams.

The page that was linked to doesn't describe any protection to the buyer at all.

If your money order goes to the person you sent it to, I highly doubt that qualifies as "stolen." Sounds more like "your problem" not theirs.

Money order goes to person who you sent it to, at what point is it lost or stolen?

Money orders don't come with implicit contracts for services, it's you voluntarily handing money to someone else.

Unless they've totally changed how money orders work in the last 20 years, I don't see what's confusing about this.

Common law includes understood contracts like the interaction between buyer and seller. Your comment is as stupid as saying
                >I ate at a restaurant, but don't have to pay because I didn't sign a contract.
The contract is implicit and enforceable, which is what makes it mail fraud.

USPS Money order is pretty much the norm on GunBroker for most private sellers as they don't have credit card processing systems set up. PayPal is antigun and will ban you and take your funds if they find out your selling guns or gun stuff with their system.

It's the norm for shitheads who can't take credit cards, which any American can for a significantly lower fee than PayPal and other "fake-banks".
If someone wants to sell shit but won't take 10 minutes to provide a safe and convenient method of payment, they don't actually want to sell shit.

If its a private seller just ask them to take a picture of the item they're selling next to their photo id/today's newspaper/his dick, etc to verify they're legit. 9 times out of 10 the scammer doesn't actually own whatever they're trying to sell so they will either refuse for no good reason, or try to send you a hilariously photoshopped image.
I did this once with someone trying to sell an m4 and they sent me the same stock picture as on the listing with an absolutely atrocious fake ID literally just mspainted onto the image. I would post it but unfortunately last time I did I got banned because the mods are morons

Money orders are good as cash, they are quasi-bearer instruments so even if they cash them you still have to prove they needed to do something and they used the money order to defraud you. A postal inspector won’t do anything to help you prove that.

That is not a scam, you are just a gigantic dipshit gorilla Black person. I have hundreds of transactions done through gunbroker over the years on everything from manuals to $5k firearms both as a buyer and seller. I've only has 2 issues with people, one of whom put the wrong receiving address on their gunbroker account and I ended up getting my money orders back a few weeks later since they had never been delivered. What you're describing is standard procedure for those wishing to sell as a private individual and don't have access to a credit card payment processor. Most people will either take some form of digital money transfer such as PayPal or the old way in a Money Order, specifically a USPS one as they're federally backed. You cannot rescind bids on Gunbroker, once you place that bid you're locked in. A seller can't delete your bid as that's not a function of gunbroker, and also defeats the purpose of the auction terms of service. Pic related, it's you dumbass.

Also, money orders are for high-trust-society boomers who don’t realize we’ve moved into a low-trust-society with a dysfunctional justice system. I’m sure the USPS Sealing Tape Team Six will launch Operation Eagle Grasp to reclaim your $50 if the seller cashed out but doesn’t post.

    >usps money order
    Normal.
    >paypal ff or venmo on the dl
    Also normal.

The reason for the above is, unlike ebay, Gunbroker does not facilitate payment, nor does Paypal officially allow sales for guns. If you own a business and have the ability to charge people's credit cards directly, then it's fine. For ordinary people selling on gunbroker, we're kind of fricked. No good options. However, usps money order protects you by means of, if you get scammed, then it's mail fraud and a federal crime. Paypal friends and family or venmo offer no protection to you, but are commonly used. For example, I sold a gun on AK Files not too long ago for ~$2000 and the buyer paid me by paypal ff.

    >wouldn't retract your bid
Kind of shitty, but he's not obligated to.

    >only sold 10 items over the past couple years
*only has feedback for 10 items. a lot of people don't leave feedback.

    >gunbroker support
Yeah, they are buttholes. They will let him file a non-paying bidder strike against your account, which will probably get you banned from the site, but they won't do anything for you that would stop them from making money.

    >vpn to make a secondary gunbroker account
Very unlikely to be able to

    >shill bid yourself out of the running
Have a noguns friend or family member do it--someone who doesn't mind their account being banned when they don't pay.
