Gun Storage in shitty residences

Hey PrepHole I may be moving to either an apartment or a mobile home in a trailer park soon and I have a modest collection of around 20 guns that are mostly rifles and shotguns. What are my options as far as storage goes? I know I can get a safe (obviously) but I am worried about the fact that I will probably be moving into a poor condition trailer that may not be able to handle it. Would building a bedframe with a large hidden storage compartment that is not easy to move or get into without an axe or a prybar and 10mins of time? Am I overthinking this? I am legit worried about the security of my firearms. My wife realistically not be able to stay at home 24/7 and I have to work. What about off-site storage such as a one of those climate controlled storage units? I actually grew up in a trailer but never ever had a safe since we were far enough out that we really didn't have to worry about B&Es and smash and grabs. I am at a bit of a loss here. pls help.

Am I retarded?

I think your best bet would be security through obscurity. Don't let anyone know that you have firearms in your residence, and be extremely low key in moving them in using large, plain, cardboard boxes. No gun cases, no ammo boxes in plain view, etc.

As far as securing them in the home, you can probably get some off-brand pelican cases, like the ones at harbor freight (I use them myself, solid construction), stuff your guns in there, padlock it closed, and then chain that to a bedpost or something.

Obviously, this isn't an ideal solution, nor a very practical one, but you have to make due considering your personal circumstances.

Further, it is usually against the policy for self-storage unit places to store firearms and ammunition, so if something were to happen at that location, be it a burglary or natural disaster, you would be SOL for assistance because you were violating the terms of the storage renter agreement.

Fucking THIS. You only NEED two guns. A handgun and a AR-15.

Lemme guess, the handgun should either be a 9mm because it'll blow out your fucking lungs or a .45 because it won two world wars? Shut the hell up with that two gun shit. Let anon live

Bitch, this guy is having financial problems. Living standards is more important than having a few extra guns to wank over.

I think you're making an error in judgement assuming that there are financial problems. Anon didn't specify that in the post, you are projecting that on anon.

He's talking about moving into a TRAILER. That just screams financial irresponsibility. Guns are tools to some, not cool things we collect. You can get by with two, well sighted guns. Use appropriate delf-defense ammo and you don't NEED anything else.

You bring up a valid point, that's fair. But he also discussed the possibility of an apartment as well as paying for a storage unit. Anon has a job and a steady stream of income. But you have to budge a little bit on the fact that for some people, guns are cool things we collect, just as some people collect stamps, or the anon in the thread that collects vintage swords.

I totally get that, but from everything I've gleaned from this thread, anon needs to focus on other things first.

You are absolutely correct, however, I had to approach this from the question from anon. I can't give this guy a PrepHole MBA and financial advice because he didn't ask for it.

For the record, I was being a bit rude before about the two gun thing. When I lived in an apartment without a bunch of money, I was a "muh handgun muh AR-15, all I need" guy, so for me to jump down your throat was a little hypocritical of me.

It's cool. I've been poor before, I'm more financially stable now. I know how hobbies can drive people into destitution. I just hope OP can find a balance. Guns are fun, living in a trailer isn't. Now that I'm financially stable I can indulge a bit, but I still only have 4 guns. You wouldn't want to know how much my AR-15 has costed me tho. lol.

I'm at 4 myself, 2 handguns, 1 AR, 1 shotgun. I'm in the same boat about the AR though. It was probably too much, but hey, a little indulgence isn't a bad thing as long as you aren't out of house and home doing it.

                >I'm in the same boat about the AR though.
Yep. I've got about 3000 rounds through mine, not a single malfunction. It's the one gun I'll spend a premium on.

                >the one gun I'll spend a premium on
100% same for me. When I wanted to get an actual optic for mine, it was a tough choice for either going for the typical chinese shit or shelling out some actual cash. But I went the "buy once, cry once" route, it's zero'd in fucking perfect, and has held that same zero 2500 rounds later. I don't ride my guns hard and put them away wet, that's just poor ownership, but I pay special attention to my AR.

Op don't make your wife live in a trailer park, sell 5 guns and rent somewhere nicer. Otherwise she'll divorce rape you and you'll have to sell half of them.

Hide every gun in a different room, that way you're always prepared for shit hitting the fan whether you're in the kitchen or the shitter and if someone were to break into your place they might find one or two before leaving. You could even put some really cheap shitty guns in an obvious spot as bait. 20 guns is too many for someone that isn't a home owner.

yes, financially speaking. first thing you should do is get a house, kind of impossible right now so get an apartment. trust me, you do NOT want to live in a trailer park with "valuable" things like guns. if they're collector grade guns, do your best to hide them in cardboard boxes or something that doesn't scream "a gun is in here". if none of them are collector grade, sell most of them except maybe a rifle and a handgun. there's just too much risk of having that many guns in a small apartment where you're surrounded by tons of people living just a couple feet from you.

    >bedframe with a large hidden storage compartment that is not easy to move or get into without an axe or a prybar and 10mins of time?
It's a good thought. Back when I was living in rented apartments, I had a "california king" sized waterbed (but with a conventional mattress in it). It was a platform style bed. The center of the platform was empty space, and it made for perfect gun storage for anything I wasn't taking out regularly.

I kept one shotgun and one handgun out, and only bothered with the rest on nice-weather weekends when I wanted to spend a lot of time on the range. It was easy to get into the middle area -- pull the mattress up so it hangs over the side, lever the big sheet of plywood out of the center of the top of the platform, and slide the guns I wanted out. Then move the wood back and drop the mattress on top.

No one was likely to tear the bed apart just in case there was something underneath. If the area was more dangerous, I could have put a magnetic locking system on the wooden panel so that I'd have to hold a magnet against it to unlatch it.
