gun storage

Right now I have all my stuff mounted on the wall openly on display, but we're taking in my frickwit moron brother in law until at least christmas

I do not want or need a heavy vault-like safe. I have my guns on display in my office on wall mounts, but for the time being I want to get a basic metal cabinet to put in our bedroom closet to put them away. Just something fairly basic that I can throw a padlock on. My wife works from home so he'll have enough supervision and thus not enough time to frick with the lock or try and pry open the doors if he even had that much energy.

I have 26 long guns and 20 handguns. I have no fear of him using them for violence since if anything he's afraid of even seeing a gun let alone using one, but he is militantly anti-gun and I would not put it past him to take all my shit to a buy back in a "we're all better off with less guns, you'll thank me later" idea because he's done similar grandiose/impulsive things like that.

Pic related was the very first thing that came up, but I'm sure an identical cabinet not expressly marketed for guns would be half the cost or less. Recs for cabinets?

Depending on humidity you want a classic safe since desiccant work there

humidity is not a concern in my region of my state

also thank you for recommending a safe when I explicitly said I do not want one

it was just a suggestion, clearly you don't know what you want since you can't just pick a metal cabinet yourself and instead have to resort to asking a laotian metal detecting forum

weird, I feel like if you read that post it said I wanted a metal cabinet

you seem upset and offended somehow, if reading and replying is this difficult for you then maybe stop?

/K/ommando you need to empty a closet and turn it into a bigass gun locker so your turbo moron in-law *can't* sperg out on you.

Basically this. You can also put the gun lockers in the closet.
Also needless to say you should write down the make, model, and serial number of all your guns and if he tries anything, report them stolen and press felony charges.

Build a 10x12 room in your basement with cinderblocks, buy an old school security door and frame from a building recycler store, those things are impossible to break down, and look the piece of shit in till Christmas. Make sure you build the room over an existing floor drain so you can hose it all down once a week. Leave a cheap hipoint with an empty magazine welded in on a table while your cleaning and say he can live in the light when he's man enough to take his future back.

You realize you can dig through cinderblocks with a spoon, right? I wouldn't, but one could. I'd just take a sledge hammer and chisel to it. It doesn't matter how good your door is if it isn't mounted into anything substantial.

Police buybacks are "no questions asked," so if you bring in stolen guns, they don't care. It's gone at that point.

You should still keep an inventory.

I would definitely recommend a big heavy ass fire proof gun safe. Bend the floors with it! Best gun accessory you will ever buy. Post pic of your moronic wife.

Cameras are good. Exterior grade door with a dead bolt, leading to the office is good. Gun safe/locker is good. Making sure he knows he'll be homeless if he does anything to jeopardize the peace of your house is good. If you have to kick him out, just drop him off on the state line. Don't do anything fancy.

Have you considered bludgeoning him to death with a shovel and then digging a shallow grave with it? The world would better off without morons like that.

I suggest looking for some workshop furniture. Companies that sell tools usually have them. My buddy got some of those shop lockers for his garage, they're basically wardrobes made of sheetmetal. No point in linking the company website though cause I'm euro. Maybe your local Harbor Freight has got some. Just make sure it can be locked.

god damn reading must be real tough for you

You need to google "gun security cabinet" and that's your answer
Simple locked cabinet that is nondescript, get a white one and put some plants on top, keep it in an office
They will have the accessories to hold long guns and pistols

wow its almost like I asked for other people's suggestions and experiences, I never even considered googling it myself and I definitely didn't mention that I already googled it and found results

Why is everyone so quick to fricking seethe? You have the energy of a woman bro.

I agree, sheltered mtf troons on this board who have never, ever been questioned by mommy and daddy just don't understand the idea that they in fact said something stupid

      >I have 26 long guns
in my experience a 5 rifle safe only fits 3 rifles with optics. You're gonna need a big cabinet.

Yes I will be buying likely several cabinets

You can buy surplus filing cabinets for like $15 for the handguns. Then you just need to get a stack-on for the long guns

We had to take my BIL in as well but, he’s never do some stupid shit like that. I suggest maybe building a closet type structure in your office, that is structurally sound. Getting a cabinet for that many pieces it’s have to be huge.

Simple. You kill him. With one of your guns perhaps? Or threaten to sic the ATF on him if you don't have a dog to get in the crossfire.

put up a dog fence leading to the room with a camera and just say you're not allowed in that area. he goes through it without your permission and you can just send him packing. Staying at your home is a privilege not a right.

Leave out a pistol or something you aren't super fond of it could at least miss; note serial, if it moves report it as stolen. Use the CCTV feed you have set up that conveniently shows him taking it. You suddenly don't have to house him and he gets what he deserves. Or he behaves, and it's moot.

let him take them, report them stolen, record his holier-than-thou virtue signaling confession, file felonious theft charges, get your guns back or their value in restitution, no more dipshit BiL to deal with.

this, but why not just slap a padlock on a closet door and call it a day? Or if you're feeling tidy, get a pic related. The actual risk of some b&e and robbing your guns is pretty low, so mitigating it is probably not worth spending thousands of dollars

Look at Ulines stuff. (Slim storage cabinet model # H-6318) probably the best thing for a closet, its short enough to fit under a standard height closet shelfs. (Ventilated storage cabinet model # H-7808) if you want the mesh like in your pic. 300-600$ depending on what you want, model, size, color. They're pretty solid. Actually hard to break into. Almost impossible to break out of.

If you have newer guns you can take the barrel off of, a metal filing cabinet(s) with a key may be exactly what you’re looking for. Its secure, cheap, and inconspicuous.
