Gun Sins

When you were first learning guns or were a stupid edgy teen, what gun sins did you commit.

For me, I was using a friend's MP5. I wanted to change magazines so I didn't pull back on the tab at the front, didn't do a HK slap, I just removed the magazine with gun in battery, replaced the magazine and then pulled back sharply on the tab once as if it was a charging handle.

i've had to weld the metal to build it back up because of slapping it too much, it wears the metal down
i weld it back up then file it back into shape

I had a ludicrously over modified 10/22 and a Mosin with an Archangel chasis back when I could finally purchase guns(2011) could have easily bought an Izmash from all the money I wasted on plastic shit

Had a quad rail ar that I filled with magpul xtm rail covers thinking every inch of this precision machined thing needed to be protected. Only to remember I only mount a front sight, a flashlight, and maybe some flavor of foregrip. I later took them off and had a pretty good time with the extra grip compared to the not so grippy plastic.

I steal people's mags at the range. At first it was just for fun and I would take an AR mag here and there but then it got to be a sort of game. I would walk down the line and see how many I could take without being seen. My record in one day is 5 AR mags, 3 1911 mags, two glock 'stendos and an M1a mag. I also look for rare expensive mags that I can sell. I've taken two 40 round bakelite RPK mags and a Finnish Valmet 308 mag. There is a richgay that frequents my range and I have had my eye on him for a few weeks because he has an STG44 kit build and a Norinco 5.56 AK and mags for both are several hundred dollars apiece so you know I'm gonna get in on that.

Define cheap AR, because I've got a PSA freedom gun I bought back when they were 350 and 7k(ish) rounds later it's fine. It's kind of hard to frick them up. I'll replace the barrel if it ever gets to that and move on.

I considered a lot of moronic shit but thankfully never did anything too bad. I got a dong handguard with the engraving "An Flory" on it and I engraved my own name on the other side with a cross. I was very, very religious at the time and also kind of bought into pic related so I figured engraving it would make it more magic or some shit. If I give it some time I'm sure I'll have some more moronic shit to say. I also passed up a Hebrew Hammer FAL for a Hakim that didn't work once.

First time I cleaned my Mosin I wrapped some paper towel around the cleaning rod and then use the firing pin to push it through, still feel bad whenever I look at the end and see the dents.

I ruined the barrel of my all-matching Mosin by not cleaning it after shooting corrosive ammo, the barrel is pitted all to frick and it keyholes sometimes. Oh well, it was like $90 and I didn't know what corrosive primers were when I was 18.

An anon confessed stealing magazines but to be perfectly honest, I steal boxes of ammo almost every day from my local gun shop. I'm friends with the boomer who works at my lgs and I come there almost every day after class. I always buy something, usually a few boxes of 5.56 or 22 but what he doesn't know is that I also take about 3-7 boxes of ammo and I shove them in my coat. He isn't even suspicious of me yet because I look like an honest fellow.

Also if you have kids, for fricks sake get a safe. They had an entire arsenal sitting around unattended with full mags and multiple guns everywhere.

I wore all black to the gun range with my first AK being like 18 years old looking like a school shooter, walked up to the line holding it at an awkward low ready, no case or nothing just ready to start blasting. The range walrus wanted to make a big deal about it so bad but he just muttered something onto his radio and kept staring me down the whole time.

I fricked up more than one .303 cartridge trying to force it into my enfield without realising I was rim locked, or even that rim lock is something I should look out for. I also used to think the diameter of the bullet referred to the bottom diameter of the cartridge case.

The first gun I got/fired was a .22 rifle which I dry fired too much resulting in the firing pin breaking within a few range trips.

In the process of replacing it I took out what turned out to be an important component of the feeding mechanism (fixed magazine), which resulting in the gun double feeding almost every time it cycled. Obviously that was an easy fix but not one I could do at the range so the trip was ruined.

Not really a sin, but I didn't realize how small cartridges were. The only guns I ever shot before starting to get my own was a 12 gauge and a .22. I had this idea that rifle cartridges would be huge. The first time I held a 5.56 in my hand I couldn't believe how small it was and even a .308 was disappointing. 9mm made me wonder how it could hurt anyone.
