That’s literally what blueing is. Controlled rust

          Anonymous

Rust is a specific oxidation state, with a crystal structure that is of a destructive size.
Other oxidation states, such as bluing, has a non destructive crystal size.

Its one of if not the least carcinogenic gun cleaners / lubes. Its not amazing at anything but it can be used on everything, wood plastic leather metal w.e. thats why its so good. Yeah theres better lubricants and solvents but none that can do all the shit ballistol can do. Ive used it on leather several times and wood and its fricking great.

The thing causing cancer in mineral oils are polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons. A highly refined end product, such as Ballistol has almost no PAHs. You would know this if you actually read the shit you selectively copy paste from.

True, there are different grades of mineral oil, Ballistol is medicinal grade and derived from coal fwiw

      fake news.

      >Medicinal/Pharmaceutical grade white mineral oil, non toxic
      > Potassium/ammonium Oleate Natural Bicarbonates/salts found in mineral, spring, sea, and other sourced waters, non toxic
      >Oleic Acid, Natural essential fatty acid, non toxic
      >Benzyl Alcohol, Amyl Alcohol and Isobutyl Alcohol, naturally occurring alcohols, found in fermented foods, and alcoholic based beverages, non toxic
      > Benzyl Acetate, naturally occurring substance originating from plants, found in fragrance and essential oils, non toxic
      > Anethole, natural essential oil, non toxic
      > Isohexane, a pure hydrocarbon, ONLY present in the aerosols to improve the sprayability of the highly viscose Ballistol. Isohexane as used in Ballistol aerosol cans contains less than 3% Isohexane and is non toxic based on FDA standards
      >Ballistol does not contain ingredients considered hazardous by the FDA. It does not contain any ingredients which may be harmful for warm-blooded organisms, reptiles or aquatic organisms

      >Ballistol does not contain ingredients considered hazardous by OSHA. It does not contain any ingredients, which normally may be considered harmful or fatal if swallowed

      >Carcinogenicity: No NTP publication. No IARC monograph. Ballistol is based on medicinal grade white mineral oil, (CAS # 8042-47-5) which has been classified "Class 3" by the IARC. This means that there is insufficient evidence for this substance to cause cancer in animals or humans. Ballistol does not contain any substance currently known to be a carcinogen.

my current favorite. everyone should at least try a fully synthetic calcium sulfonate grease. creamy, slippery, excellent lubricity, high temperature range, excellent wear reduction, extreme corrosion inhibition (think marine environment), cleans up effortlessly, doesn't harden with age.
you could just lather every firearm with it, wipe off excess and it will run as good as ever and be better protected than with almost any other product.

I bought a quart of lsa at a gun show for $3 when I was 16 and I'm still using the same quart 20 years later. It remains the best purchase I have ever made.

No thanks Reddit. I’ll just sell it and let the buyer do that.
