Could be a psyop to get West Taiwan to respond so we can get some EZ intel on them. I mean think about it. Why announce anything until you have already landed. They could have snuck her in and had the meeting already and only broadcast the recording of it only after she had already left if we just wanted to get a photo op.

Probably because she b***hed out when she heard China was making threats and other figures in the government and military that actually understand politics rather than using it as a tool to enrich themselves explained to her how bad America would look if they were visibly spooked by China.

      1. The idea of her going in the first place was a stupid idea and never should have been mooted
      2. China making threats against the US makes it so backing down would set a bad precedent, so now it has to go ahead even if it was a stupid idea in the first place

Having worked with them on pic related, I wouldn't actually be concerned. What a lot of people don't know is that the rate of failure during testing for Osprey was expected and matched production forecasts (yes, there is an expectation that people will die during aircraft testing, get over it, this isn't Hollywood) .

Not that people don't know that, you could file a FOIA and get those numbers of course if they're not already public. No, what I'm referring to is the psyop about tarring them as unreliable flying coffins. I think people would be surprised about how...deliberate...that misinfo is. Especially when you compare it with anything PLAF is running.

Basically we learned from our mistake in Ukraine. You can't appease dictators by not giving too much support to places they want to conquer. We tried that in Ukraine when we should have been arming them heavily since the first invasion in 2014. Now we know China is going to invade Taiwan we have to give them full support.

        Anonymous

The support Ukraine got over the past eight years definitely shows. Access to NATO intel, advisors and training...and only recently weapons. Putin didn't just walk into a trap (where Russia losses were always going to be high, but the question of Ukraine holding was up in the air) He tripped over his shoelaces and went face first into a bear trap.
Xi would be doing the same. Against an island which has been readying itself for decades. Of course Taiwan won't win a war against China by itself but it creates the stage for heavy losses for the attacker. Dragging them into a conflict they cannot just walk away from and where the West will play whatever role it deems necessary.

            Anonymous

Wrong, they hate the Chinese brand as well. Even Chinese people in China admit that they would rather buy products that are not made in China if given the option. The only reason they don't is only out of obligation or fear of not appearing Chinese enough to their Chinese friends.

              Anonymous

Ok, I meant loyalty not in a consumer sense though. All you said can be true and many still defend China socially. That is the loyalty I talk of.

                Anonymous

Loyalty is when you trust your friends and family who have differing opinions to still have your back because they are truly your friends and family in the end. In current year China you can't trust anyone even your own brother and sister. These are the people who made a legal inheritance system which incentivizes family infighting. What you have is a culturally bankrupt country where it's everyone for themselves. You are encouraged to show your loyalty because you fear that doing less may make you look less loyal than the next guy on the chopping block.

                Anonymous

That and China is likely the only power they feel they have or are a part of. But yes, loyalty is not the best word to use there. More desperate attachment then anything.

If you ban something with consistent enforcement, it tends to reduce the amount people use. Especially if you can control the major manufacturing centers of the product which is were we failed with prohibition and the war on drugs.

We need to make sure we cover down for the pedophiles that run our churches so we don't have to actually examine our ethical foundations. I mean, it means we support the actual rape of children, but hey, as long as we can convince idiots it's the gays fault, we never have to worry about either problem.

China and Russia seem to have lost sense of how the US gracefully got into a superpower status. Instead it's like a fricking child jumping from 8 years old to 21 and armed without undergoing any of the intermediate.

The way China is behaving we're either going to have a war with them or they're going to collapse. So at this point while I wouldn't want a war I'd rather we get it over sooner than alter.

        Anonymous

Exactly. It's obvious what the end conclusion of these types of things are. In the past, the world let dictators bully others until it came to a massive war where the aggressor had the head start. Russia blew its load early and isn't going to recover, China is on the verge of doing the same (and even if they don't, they have other problems that will take their toll in the future.)
The only worry I have is if/when a war does kick off, the losing side is going to pop a nuke. And it can get very, very, bad if it escalates from that.

          Anonymous

That is something I expect to happen. Or brinkmanship the same as Russia is doing. It's blatantly obvious to be the Chinese MO same as it'd be the Russian one
          >Take territory as fait accompli
          >Declare said territory is your indigenous home territory and thus any invasion of it is registered the same as if you were invading the internationally recognized borders (IE trying to take a Chinese fake island is the same as trying to invade Shanghai).
There's no good endings to this situation which is the fricked thing and why I can be cavalier about the idea of war. Because it's going to hurt badly no matter when it happens and I don't see any chance China will take a chill pill. So unless the US is better positioned in 2032 I'd rather the US confront the chinks now than later.

Your point and the spain anon are right to an extent but I see it beyond foreign policy and more a sense of how you see yourself in the world. The wrong approach of a superpower is entitlement and demanding your place in the sun, demanding respect, demanding and demanding and demanding. I fricking hate invoking pithy quotes from media but the perfect shorthand is that shit in ASOIAF of
          >"I'm the king"
          >'A man who has to say he is the king is not much of a king'

A country that demands to be treated like a superpower is a kid demanding to be treated like an adult. That's what you see Russia or China doing, when if China had waited (and survived its systemic issues) it could have graduated into true superpower status in 10-20 more years. Their tantrums instead scared off everyone around them - rather like if the US had been bullying and harassing the Spanish French Portugese English Germans Russians Japanese everyone in the world in 1890-1920 instead of mostly just the Spanish. The US demands impotently on homosexualry or democracy or trade deals as well but it doesn't do so with the shrill histrionics of an impotent smolderingly vainglorious people.
          Russia is
          >Do not do thing or we nuke you we bury you we destroy you [hysterical]
          China is
          >Do not do trivially minor thing or we economically embargo you, we castrate your business opportunities here, we destroy your ship and major political figure [hysterical]
          US is
          >Do not do thing or various parts of our establishments will b***h and whine about you and other parts of our establishments or populace will be buddy buddy with you [half disinterested]

I'd say exceptions but even with a third rail like Israel you can say mean nasty things about our leash-holder and not get ground into dust by a screeching US government/public.

And that's the seminal case of China or Russia today and what, at least looking back, the US lacked back then. We had imperialists aplenty but at least off historical records the only case of
            >Inflated egos [not] commiserate with actual reality hysterical with rage when confronted with said reality

How...exactly...would the CCP enforce a naval blockade on Taiwan, considering that to get a fleet close enough for said blockade to be effective, they'd need to send necessarily hostile warships within Taiwan's territorial waters, which would trigger the Winnie the Poohcalypse?

        >Passed the House on January 9, 2018 (Voice vote)
        >Passed the Senate on February 28, 2018 (Unanimous consent)
        AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

        >The Taiwan Travel Act (H.R. 535, Pub.L. 115–135 (text) (PDF)) is an Act of the United States Congress. Passed on February 28, 2018, it was signed into law by President Donald Trump on March 16, 2018.[1] As a follow-up to the Taiwan Relations Act, the bill allows high-level officials of the United States to visit Taiwan and vice versa.
        >The law is considered a substantial upgrade to Taiwan–United States relations, making them official though still sub-diplomatic. As such, the law was harshly criticized by the government of the People's Republic of China in Beijing (which had formally protested the bill through ambassador Cui Tiankai, demanding it not pass) for violating the One-China principle, which holds that Taiwan is an inalienable sovereign part of China.
        >In July 2019, Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen used this act to travel freely to New York City, New York and Denver, Colorado while in transit to countries in the Caribbean that still have official diplomatic relations with Taiwan. Before the act was passed, Taiwanese presidents usually could only meet local Texas government officials in Houston, Texas, which is where they could get on transit flights to the Caribbean and South America.[2] Tsai was the first Taiwanese president to visit UN ambassadors of Taiwan's diplomatic allies in New York since the passage of the Taiwan Relations Act in 1979. In New York, she also met with a U.S. congressional delegation headed by U.S. House Foreign Affairs Chairman Eliot Engel (D-NY) and Ranking Member Michael McCaul (R-TX). In Denver, she met with the governor of Colorado, some U.S. congressmembers and mayors from the local area and visited the National Center for Atmospheric Research and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory.[3][4]

Because both nations were on the verge of self-created ruin until another power invaded and the West stepped in to support the defender.

The PRC never would have gotten off the ground without the Japanese fighting the Nationalists. After the war, the Communists came out and swept up.
Stalin's USSR was strong but by 1940 it was about to be at war with France and Britain, until Germany knocked France out and then invaded East. Leaving Britain with the need to keep the Soviets in the war.

People in Russia and China perceived these mercies/timings as their own victories and concluded they are always in the right. However, when they revert to their hostile natures in a modern world that isn't embroiled in war, they find out that few states are accepting of their antics. And as in the past, when a nation is invaded for little reason, many side with the defender.

France has always been pretty dodgy to us. Right after the American Revolution when we sent some diplomats to their country, they insulted us by only sending extremely low ranking adjutants to talk to the American delegation who demanded a bribe to let the American envoys speak to anyone more important and threatened military action if we didn't pay up. America refused and there was a small scale undeclared navel war over the next few years.
In more recent history, France basically blackmailed the US into getting involved in Vietnam when it became clear they couldn't hold them anymore. France pissed and moaned about how they weren't getting any help like Korea did less than a decade earlier and even threatened to flip to the Soviet sphere. So, the US (and the Aussies) grudgingly got involved, with JFK really trying to keep it low with just special forces and other clandestine deals. When he was killed LBJ went full moron and started sending Americans en masse; France, safely out of the situation, condemned America escalating the war they had wanted us to fight in the first place.
I could go on. Don't get me wrong, I think France is a valuable ally, but they have a very long history of stabbing us in the back.

These are the most salient points as it relates to France-US relations. France has always, *always* viewed the US as a utility in their plays at Franco-centric Euro-frickery. It's always been transactional to them, and they love to play up historical ties as a means of barely concealed moral blackmail. I don't despise them, but the idea that they have and have always had our backs is trite and insulting.

He’s not totally wrong about Vietnam. But I think the US is equally to blame for its poor choices. We should have been opposed to the French from the beginning in Vietnam, but the US was too scared of communism in both France and southeast Asia. They couldn’t see that they had the opportunity to turn Ho Chi Minh away from communism — he (and most of the NVA/Viet Cong) were more interested in independence than any particular ideology.

Pelosi going to Taiwan is a win-win-win all around. Either China calls the bluff and actually heems her and the US has a cancer excised from its government and the entire demtard party has a stain on its record for time immemorial, or China does jack shit frick all and it's a 'Murica fuark ye moment. Honestly the former would probably earn a good bit of support from a large chunk of the US voter base which makes me think it may actually happen, even if they get shitdicked as penance. Both countries are desperate for a war right now too since both economies are in the relative shitter and both ruling parties need a big win, I could entirely see her being the sacrificial lamb especially with all the insider trading bullshit scandals she's been responsible for blowing up everyone's money making ability which is the entire reason why half the people in the senate or house are even fricking there to begin with.

Isn't this exactly why they put so much into the DF17 , hypersonics can take out carriers ?

And we know for a fact these are hypersonic, they just tested one off the coast of taiwan, Hypersonic nig, If these are as manoeuvrable as chinks claim, the USA has no counter measures or weapons with similar capability, Hypersonics are probably a decade away for the USA.

I know we all joke about the chinks, but Imagine China launches 200 DF17 from all over Chinese mainland and their south china sea islands in which they've been sneaking in material for a while, and in a single day Sink the entire CSG 5, just legit Wipes carrier strike group 5 off the earth, no survivors type of shit, eliminates the ability to project force into Asia into the USA can move more CSG into the area, and would they? after that? do nukes immediately fly or do chinks win

You havent been paying attention have you. Tesla could light a field of lightbulbs wirelessly. That was over 100 years ago. You ever see ball lightning Spainanon?

C'mon put it together. No Chinese or Russian nukes will be getting through. Now you know why the US didnt waste time with hypersonics until now. They are already obsolete. Ayyy lmao.

            No and no.
            This isn't how wars work.
Sinking a carrier group would just be the beginning or the conflict.

The reality is that China is very dependent on globalization which is 100% dependent on the US navy maintaining the security of the global shipping lanes.

So an immediate response from USA would likely be a blockade of the south china sea, sending subs to destroy the Chinese navy and firing tomahawks from subs into key targets in China.

what's wrong with looking at the capabilities of you soon to be enemy you fricking idiot, there are american sources for their Hypersonic capabilities, it would have taken u 5 seconds on google, and by sources I mean literal american officials testifying in front of congress and explaining the need america has to achieve hypersonic as they believe china has.

The big irony? The ship named after the president that fricked over blacks the hardest is being fricked over the worst of them all by black mold. Hi-fricking-larious.

We are the most powerful military force in the history of man. Every fight is our fight. Because what happens over here, matters over there. We don't get to sit one out. Learning to use the tools of modern warfare is the difference between the prospering of your people, and utter destruction. We can't give you freedom. But we can give you the know-how to acquire it. And that, my friends, is worth more than a whole army base of steel. Sure it matters who's got the biggest stick, but it matters a helluva lot more who's swinging it. This is a time for heroes. A time for legends. I don't know what language you speak, I cannot find your country on a map, and I couldn't tell you a damn thing about your culture, but I will defend with my life your right to be free from Russian and Chinese savages. History is written by the victors. Let's get to work.
