The F-14 was equipped with advanced radar systems and long-range missiles, allowing it to engage enemy aircraft from afar. In contrast, the F-111 was built for low-level, high-speed penetration of enemy airspace, featuring a variable-sweep wing design and terrain-following radar for effective ground attack missions.
The F-111 was still better suited for tactical strike missions due to its terrain-following radar, longer range, and larger payload capacity. While the F-14D had improved air-to-ground capabilities compared to earlier variants, it was not specifically designed for long-range strike missions like the F-111.
8 hardpoints and an internal bomb bay.
Also, wing pylons alone are rated up to 40,000 lbs.

Only the inner 2 pylons swing with the wing, so the plane was kinematically neutered if the outer hardpoints were populated. As such, it was hardly ever used that way.

During the gulf war they were frequently used.

So do the pylons just rotate to align with the plane? Doesnt that complicate the hell out of the system?

There's a reason they don't make them like that anymore.

Only the inner two pylons on each wing could swivel.

cant compare
Except that the F14 can do both, had it not been scrapped the F14D could even carry JDAMS and use AGR, making the F111 as useful as the A-10

Mirage is toiny.
replaced by F-15E?
Yes
Love me variable wings but i know its too conplex to be worth it. Not to mention its near impossible to make them stealthy.
> unsweep wings
> paint grey
> step 3: ????
> profit
>F14 - pilot and wso can't hold hands
>F111 - pilot and nav can hold hands and kiss each other on the cheek
F111 wins
It’s killing maintenance crews in heaven now
