Few gun stores will carry m1s unless they specialize in C&R guns or are a bigger shop like Cabela’s gun counter.

M1 Garand will not be found at your LGS and if it is it'll be a piece of shit because an actual decent M1 Garand would be sold in seconds

what would make it a piece of shit?

please explain why you tihnk the M1 garand would make a good 1st gun for you.

an old style gun, low technology, probably easy to maintain, very very beautiful and sounds amazing. I have no interest in pistols

        >low technology, probably easy to maintain
Anon, it's a semi-auto rifle that you can't use conventional off-the-shelf .30-06 loads in without research ahead of time, and it uses magazines that are no longer produced and have to be eyeballed to make sure that they're not bent out of shape. It's neither low tech nor is it easy to maintain. Its takedown process will also require some understanding.
Please get a more conventional firearm for your first one and leave things that require research for your second.
Unironically an M1A might work better for you.

          >an old style gun, low technology, probably easy to maintain, very very beautiful and sounds amazing
          Yeah, no guns confirmed
The Garand is expensive. It's shoots expensive ammo. It's clips are expensive. It's over ten fricking pounds loaded, so it's expensive to carry.
All this means you're going to spend way less time shooting, you're going to shoot far fewer rounds than you otherwise would and you're never going to fricking improve because you don't practice enough.
Get a 5.56 or a .22, not a gun that shoots bullets that are on average three fricking dollars lmao

damn man, i wanted an ar15 then came to the realization that it won't be an option for someone living in california, m1 garand was my second pick...

            Anonymous

you can easily get an ar15 for under 1000 in ca. it will have some stupid bullshit on it that you overpaid for that can easily be removed and replaced in under 10 minutes but you wouldnt do that cause thats illegal and you still want to go shoot that gun at ranges.

you can have it look right and be a royal pain in the ass to reload. or have it look moronic and have a detachable mag.
                your choice.
                or you could just get a 22lr version like a m&p 15-22

              >and you still want to go shoot that gun at ranges.
Damn what ranges do you go to. Even angeles as cucked as they are don't give a shit unless you're using bi metal jacketed ammo and shooting faster than 1 shot every 1 (more like half) second.

How about a Ruger Mini-14? It doesn't have a pistol grip and you can get one with an internal magazine. Also the wooden ones will look less scary to caligays.

I'm bullshitting about the 2k for an M1A or M1 carbine they're more like 1100 to 1600 although there are sometimes you can find a carbine closer to 900. As for the garand last time I was checking places (like 4 years ago) 1600 was for a mixmaster "shooter" grade. CMP sells decent quality guns for cheaper but there's some hoops you need to jump through that will take longer than a few weeks usually.

    What’s your budget?

Bear in mind that there are a lot of ancillary things that you’ll need as a first time gun buyer (thankfully most are usually one-time only purchases).

Just remember to have enough in your budget for these things besides the gun and ammunition:

    >Ear pro
    >Eye pro
    >Cleaning kit
    >Small maintenance kit
    >Range bag (for carrying spare ammunition, ear protection, eye protection, cleaning kit, maintenance kit)
    >Gun case (hard or soft, just something to take to the range)
    >Sing
    >spotting scope (nothing worse than having to wait 10-15 min for the RO to call a cold range to check your shots when zeroing sights and scopes)
    >bean bags (for bench shooting)
    >gloves (i used to shoot bare handed all the time until my wedding ring scratched the shit outta my Sako 75’s stock…)

I’m sure there’s more, just keep these in mind. Iv’e known too many first time gun buys get their gun and ammo, and then think “frick, i can’t actually use my gun or go to the range until I get this other stuff” so they’re stuck looking at a gun they can’t shoot for a pay period until they can afford the rest.

For one, no it isn't its just very expensive due to scarcity. Two, I'd suggest you get a cheap pump action 12 gauge and try it out. Its more fun than you'd expect. Would let you shoot, learn, have some fun, pop your gun cherry in an affordable way. The Maverick 88 or Mossberg 500/590 series are the go too nowadays. Older 870s are better imho but 2004 production onwards suck.

          >Two, I'd suggest you get a cheap pump action 12 gauge and try it out. Its more fun than you'd expect.

its LESS fun than you would expect, shooting shotguns is fun for the first tube, then you wont want to shoot shotguns anymore, and if you have solid fundamentals from shooting other firarms, you dont need to train with a shotgun beyond handling and loading.

          OP, get a cheap ar.

            Anonymous

Maybe if you're a massive homosexual who only shoots at paper targets on a flat range and dreams of being a partisan operator. He lives in California for one, so his mileage for ARs is lower than normal. Two shotguns are cheap to buy, cheap to feed, satisfying to shoot, powerful, very free from most legal restrictions even in cucked states, and very effective in defensive situations.

For Garands you'll need an aftermarket Schuster gas plug. (About 50$) Modern .30-06 is hot enough to bend op rods and frick up recievers.
The Schuster plug basically vents out enough gas to match old M2 ball.

Reasons why the M1 Garand is a good First Gun:

I mailed my order 24 May of this year, received it on the 24th of June. Take my word on it, I've owned 4 M1s, all CMP guns, but the first three I purchased second hand via armslist, or trades. I got okay deals on them, but you've gotta be a sucker to buy an M1 (which is 100% a CMP rifle) at a gun store for like 2-3 times the price.

If you want a historic gun, go to gun broker, a gun show, or a store that specializes in antiques. Some, like Carcanos, you can still find at stores, Garands probably not so much.

Also get a C&R license if you want to collect. You buy 2 guns and it pays for itself by skipping the background check. You'll also be able to have it mailed to your door rather than go to a store and fill out paperork.

    >another Californian noguns doing something moronic
    Sigh.
Seriously. Just buy a shotgun or a bolt action rifle in a common caliber if you have to have a big gun. Shotguns are great bang for your buck, for 1000 dollars you can buy all your amenities like cleaning supplies and a decent amount of ammo after buying your pump shotgun. And being Californian you have to have secure storage I believe. I bought a maverick 88 security for 200 bucks as a broke 18 year old and never ever regretted it. All that stupid shit about It being low tech and old-school is actually true about a pump shotgun, you can't get any more simple unless you go to a single shot break action. Birdshot is great cheap plinking ammo and is a ton of fun shooting outdoors. Buckshot has the highest rate of one shot stop in self defense situations of almost any caliber in use. My security model holds 7+1 regular shells and 6 more on a sidesaddle, it's an excellent home defense weapon. Most modern shotguns are capable of accepting 3" magnum loads as well. Practical Accessories are plentiful and cheap for any big name shotgun. If you aren't buying a .22 as a learning gun and cheap plinker a 12 gauge Is not a bad second choice. It's an incredibly versatile weapon that has at its core put food on the table and served as a home defense weapon for many, many years. It's like the shark of the gun world, it's core principles haven't changed much for a long time since it's at its pinnacle for what it is.
