I doubt it's going to be particularly fragile. Solar charging has been a thing on small electronics like calculators for decades. However, it will probably have very weak illumination. A solar panel of that size is going to generate very little electricity.

Physically? Not very, there are a number of drop test videos you can look up testing Holosun's shape. Electronically... eh, theoretically that should also be solid, it's not like these components are weak because they're designed to handle the recoil of a slide tens of thousands of times. But there sure are a lot of reports of Holosun dots doing funny things and needing service. fwiw I haven't heard of SCS dots failing specifically.

It runs off a capacitor like a battery, even at night. The solar panel is just for topping up the capacitor.

Yes, that's exactly the same as how the solar powered electronics like calculators work. A capacitor is a storage device, it doesn't get around the fact you have very little power coming from the solar panel to work with.

its not run straight off the solar panel like the dumbshit "solar backup" mode works on the other sights. this uses an internal battery of a normal size and the panel charges it opportunistically.

which is a shame because the form factor is amazing, I'd buy it if the battery were replaceable and had regular brightness switches instead of an automatic brightness control.

what? its double the height of already tall irons. just because its less bad than others doesn't make it not frickhuge.

you're actually completely wrong about how this device's power supply works, and its funny your only conception of how a solar panel can be used is from the calculators you relied on in gradeschool.

I have had the opportunity to handle them at work, and they do seem quite rugged, and get very bright. With that being said, I still wouldn't trust my life to chink shit if given the option.

until red dots are significantly smaller/shorter i will not use one. they are also offensively ugly and ruin the lines of a gun.

you look at the target dumb ass not at the dot. a red dot doesn't even need glass. put a piece of tape over the glass and it still works the same.

You should try an SRO sometime. After you go SRO, whenever you try some other pistol optic you wish you were using an SRO. The only exception I can think of is unironically

I'm no where near poverty level for people of my age range (GenZ), i shoot target focused with fiber optic sights and i use my Dillon 550 to reload so you're right i don't often buy new made ammo.

It's a lot easier and confidence inspiring to shoot fast when the dot stays in the window instead of disappearing when the slide cycles and having to wait for it to come back. It's also nice to not need to be perfectly aligned to see sights at all when shooting around barriers or in weird positions. Competition shooters still use the C-More in open division for a reason.

Function>form. I wouldn't advocate throwing one on a collector piece or a gun you own because you just like the aesthetics and history. For a carry or competition gun, who gives a shit about looks if the function is improved?

All I'm asking is that they add a USB C port to it for charging, maybe a more robust battery that can hold more charge. I like a solar as an option for when I'm hiding innawoods due to SHTF zombie invasion, I'm not on board with an irreplaceable battery and solar is the only way to charge it. They could strip all the "automatic AI-controlled" options and add manual options as replacement or in conjunction.

As it is right now, if anything goes wrong, it's a disposable throw-out-the-old-one and buy-a-new-one lol what-is-monies? I prefer to invest in equipment I can rely on, including fixing it in the field by myself with minimal support kit.

Are you dumb? It's not designed for ultra compact pistols even. It has a full sized window.
