Girlfriend of 2 years dad has a bday coming up. He keeps mentioning how he wants a 1911 like the one he had in the service (Nam' Marine, then Navy). What would be a good brand to go with that isn't a jamming pile of shit but not a $2000 gun safe queen.

homie get her dad some whisky or something not a gun. You guys are still kids, odds are you aren't gonna be together in a few years so don't bother with big ticket items yet.

If you insist on placating a boomer cant go wrong with a Ruger

Haha realest answer in this thread. Plus Ruger Lightweights can be found for $600ish now. I have a feeling it's OP who really wants a 1911.

To OP, does he want a milspec one, or one with features that make it a bit more shootable, or something in between?
Milspec: Tisas 1911 WG $310-400 online
In-between: Springfield Mil Spec $600-650 online
Custom: Ruger SR1911 $600-650 or Tisas Duty $450-500
Baller: Dan Wesson Valor $1200-1400 (better get help buying this one)

Dan Wesson. Custom quality, semi-custom manufacturing, lifetime of service. But a 1911 for gf's dad is not a gift. 1911 is reserved for a based grandfather of your kids, so don't get him that until you two are married and there's at least one on the way or born already.

OP here. Its a gift idea where the whole family is going to chip in. I'm not dumb enough to spend all my money on a gun for someone else (thats my money, therefore my gun). However, he's a good guy who's helped me out and his daughter is wonderful to me so might as well get good gift

Your gift should be marrying his prostitute daughter then

Recommendation stands. Dan Wesson. One that is closest to the design he likes, but with some modern features like ambi, better fit and finish, better beavertail, etc. in the caliber of his choice.

He'd prefer you make an honest woman out of his daughter and marry her.

I don't even get my wife personal gifts worth more than a $1000, unless it benefits the household somehow, wtf are you doing buying your girlfriend's dad a 1911?

Tisas US Army 1911. They're like $350 and everyone who owns one gives immaculate reviews. Don't believe me? Go look yourself. Lots of reviews by 1911 guys who say it's every bit as good as their other $2000 1911s

PSA has flash sale today only for 350 bucks on 2 different brands. One of them rock island, philippines remington factory buyout, the other one made in tennessee and looks tight.

Same model I'm talking about this guy mentioned but everyone ignored
You don't need a 1k+ 1911, you don't need kimber homosexual shit, you want a cheap beater that's literally the same fricking thing

Unless he explicitly wants a GI Model, i'd recommend the Springfield Garrison. Better sights and hammer, everything else the same you'd find on a "standard" 1911. and its like $700-$800 range.

Mines been a great little gun. Although i did have an issue, the rollpin for the front sight was poorly set/the wrong size and walked out in the first 50 rounds. But it was a less than $4 fix, new pin and Loctite

      Later virgins.
But seriously, they’re probably made the same exact way.
Also if you watch videos on the cheaper ones like Rock Island, which is one of the cheapest, they function just as well as expensive ones.
If you wanna be autistic about it- Auto Ordinance (the same company that made the Thompson) also still makes the 1911 GI model.
If you really want a basic strip down as strip down gets model, go for either RIA, or Cimarron.
Cimarron is kinda unique because they make the 1911 similarly how it was in WW1 (without the cutouts near the trigger) and ofc you’d have to change a few parts to have it even closer.
