>get new TV. >try to mount it. >go to the same spot on the wall I saw the last tenants had their TV mounted

>get new TV
>try to mount it
>go to the same spot on the wall I saw the last tenants had their TV mounted
>can see the holes spackled over
>drill in
>pure drywall
>try another spot I see there were holes

Toggle bolts, but goddamn dude get a stud finder or knock on the wall with your hollow fricking head.

I knocked on the wall and it sounded like there was a stud but it was empty.

This is why I leave the mounts with all of the appropriate hardware on the wall, no landlord has given me crap about it because it's one less thing they need to patch. I would gladly spend the $20 on a new basic mount than remove it patch the holes.

The problem is OP is a woman and doesn't understand the "*punches wall* here's a stud" trick we men know.

I did punch the wall and it sounded like there was a stud but there wasn't.

There must be no studs in your entire house if you can't even manage to find one.

It is possible there is a stud but because it is an apartment there are so many old layers of drywall and paint that you need longer screws to hit the stud. Also it may be plaster not drywall.

They don't layer drywall like paint, you fricking moron.

You either have 5/8" Type X or 2x 1/2" drywall between apartments, condos, and townhomes.

You do for sound proofing. Built a couple rehearsal rooms for bands at one point. I also saw it done once in a weird remodeling job in a room with a lot of plaster damage that they didn't want to rip out because of possible asbestos, but that was drywall and some wooden shims over plaster. Like the other anon said too they'll use it in apartments, probably for sound deadening and to give you a couple extra minutes when your neighbor drops his crack pipe and catches his apartment on fire.

How the frick do you not know the difference between plaster and drywall? If it is plaster you’d be hitting lathe on some of your holes and thinking you’re in a stud

I think a person without knowledge of the differences is why I said it in the first place. I have no clue how old their apartment is.

What's the deal with mounted TVs anyway, why wouldn't you want it at eye level? Maybe in extreme circumstances of needing to save the small amount of space from a TV stand

Unless everyone in the house is a manlet I usually line up the very top of the TV at 6 feet

Modern TVs weigh next to nothing
    I have a 55" samsung and it's like 25lb
If you use 4 of those plastic spiral drywall anchors you will be fine

Stop drilling into walls like a spastic monkey, get a stud finder or some rare earth magnets and find the studs. for frick's sake.

I have this. It works because you stick 18 little screws into the drywall and that spreads the load. I found it by googling "drywall tv mount"

Poverty mount lmao why not just put screws through the bezel while you're at it.

typical studs are only 1.5 wide, so good luck hitting one when you just fricking go in blind
why not just put your head through the wall and take a look? your skull sounds thick enough

Use a magnet to find screws/nails or just use your eyes to find them if it's an older wall. Look for circular spots on the wall that are the size of or slightly larger than the head of a screw.

Try every 4 inches in the other direction, your studs may be horizontal.

Try a stud finder or checking a common layout for stuff like 1 every 2' or 16"

P.S. OP just drilling through your walls is a great way to bust a pipe or wire since the majority of the piping/wiring isn't gonna have a metal covering. Especially if it's just mounted next to a stud and not drilled through one
