Zigger weapons did nothing in that war, the tools of the humble Azeri XP farmer were Bayraktar, Spike-NLOS and Harop.

CSTO turning out to be completely toothless was one of my favorite parts of this stupid war Russia started.
Granted everyone with half a brain already knew it was already, but it was still funny to see it in real time. But with the incredibly dense information flow this conflict has CTSO being everything Russia accuses NATO of being means it gets lost in the endless tide of new frick ups.

Armenia getting on the road to joining NATO and the EU in exchange for ceding all disputed territories to Azerbaijan is a good deal for them at this point.

How so? A cargo cult is when someone apes something uncritically, in the hopes that by doing so, he can get the same desired result. It is based on an actual irl primitive cult where islanders aped what WWII American soldiers did in order to call down supply planes. Here, Putin tried to monke NATO and create his own, without understanding what makes NATO works. An apt use of the term if any.

NATO's symbol is a map compass. Which I always took as a reference to the "North Atlantic" part of the acronym, of course. The maritime flow across the Atlantic, role of the Royal Navy and USN, ballistic submarines...

      cargo cult

      >cargo cult
      Yeah.
But also, look at the details.
The CSTO quatrefoil has a bolted trim. It resembles a cartoon shield or a fabricated metal assembly. And there are spiky arrowheads at the vertices too.
The CSTO emblem is not only a NATO wannabe symbol.
It also stylistically implies, "we are the *Ground Army* distaff-NATO."

And whereas the NATO symbol is maybe a bit pretentious, implying they are the compass of the world, the True North needle... the CSTO symbol is a bit adversarial and imperious, implying they are going to physicslly crush & stab in all directions with their heavy pointy shield.

don't forget the sun in the middle with an obvious homage to steppe sky father worship, especially when you consider dugin's anti-surfer "atlanticism is the enemy" angle. he is trying to appropriate tengriism

Of course I do believe the origin of the NATO symbol isn't born of some implication of superiority, but rather a compass rose, in reference to the North Atlantic. Because the Compass points North, and the compass rose is a navigation symbol.

NATO is even MORE useless than CTSO. At least with the CTSO everybody understood that Russia wasn’t going to actually do anything for members. With NATO there appeared to be something meaningful because the U.S. was there and wealthy nations were members — but all that appearance led to was members neglecting their security so when everyone woke up looked around and realized "damn I’m alone here" their security situation had a,ready degraded to an awful state. So while CTSO was useless NATO was actively harmful to long-term security.

You're completely correct. That is why Putin was able to take Kiev in 3 hours- nobody would stand up to help another member, let alone a non-member.

No, that’s why Putin tried taking at all. It’s why Putin just grabbed Crimea in 2014 and is in a full-scale invasion of sovereign European state right now with not one NATO boot on the ground to eject him. THAT’S the full reality of NATO. Everyone assumed the U.S. would protect them and so let their own security situations atrophy to the point no one is able or willing to take real security actions when needed.

As the other anon said Ukraine was never a NATO member country. NATO legally could not do shit for Ukraine during the Crimea invasion same reason why there's no NATO soldiers on site in Ukraine as we speak.
