I don't know much about SPAGs. How does the PzH2000 compare to the Polish Crab and the Soviet models the Ukies have?

Krab/K9 is about 9 million $ a piece. PzH2000 is 17 million euro. They are larger, heavier and generally better systems but also crazy expensive.

More analogous to CEASER, enhanced range (~40km) and GPS corrected FCS plus Semi-autoloaded.
      Krab is more like M109.

        >enhanced range (~40km) and GPS corrected FCS plus Semi-autoloaded
        That's Krab.
PzH is that plus full autoloader + more armour.

          >armour
How much armour does a PzH 2000 have exactly? I always understood it that self-propelled artillery is most protected from small arms fire and nothing more.

            Anonymous

Enough to protect it from counterbattery fire and cluster bomblets

              Anonymous

M109 is about 28 ton. Krab is 48 ton. PzH2000 is 60 ton. They are almost as well armored as tanks.

The base pzh 2000 weighs less than a Leo 2. The 60 ton version comes with a top armor package that protects from autocannons in helis or jets.

Huh, early on I was seeing sources listing Krab as ~30km bracket, but now I'm seeing stuff stating it as ~40km.
I'll take the L on the rest, fair enough.

            Anonymous

They both have a L/52 barrel, and shoot 40km with base bleed.
PzH is officially certified for Excalibur (Krab isn't) though that's probably a formality, and PzH also has some fancy programmable airburst munitions.
On the other Ukraine also has a lot of Polish drones that were built from the outset as arty spotters for Krab's BMS and are tightly integrated into the FCS. PzH's Adler BMS had to be reworked to interoperate with GIS Arta to be useful.

Not full autoloader, only projectile ramming. You still need to manually load the propellant, like in most other systems

They snapped with that last gas cut after they went though all the work betraying everyone to get them that turbine. When the Russian betrayed them and lied to their face and never intended up uphold the deal the immediate response was to ship the Gepard and MARS. This is just the newest phase of retaliation. I think the Germans figured out there is no going back by appeasement to the prewar.

Actuallz, Scholz isn´t saying anything. A newspaper claims they obtained information that the german government secretly approved the sale of these 100 Pzh2000´s.

DeepL: Berlin (dts) - The German government has approved the sale of 100 modern self-propelled howitzers to Ukraine. This was reported by "Der Spiegel" with reference to its own information.

According to the report, the responsible Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology already granted the German arms manufacturer Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW) a production permit for the systems of the type "Panzerhaubitze2000" on 13 July. As reported by Der Spiegel, Ukraine had already asked KMW in April whether the howitzers could be purchased directly from the manufacturer. KMW then immediately submitted a corresponding offer. KMW confirmed the arms deal to Der Spiegel.

A spokesperson told the magazine that KMW had submitted a corresponding application to the Ministry of Economics on 11 July and received approval just two days later. The spokesperson put the budget for the 100 self-propelled howitzers at 1.7 billion euros. This volume would exceed the previous arms deliveries worth about 600 million euros many times over. KMW is now to begin production of the weapon systems immediately.

However, it is still unclear when the first howitzers will be delivered to Ukraine. The production of all howitzers is likely to take several years. In recent weeks, the German government had already delivered several systems of the type "Panzerhaubitze2000" from Bundeswehr stocks to Ukraine. Ukrainian soldiers had previously been trained on the system in Germany.

Depending on the ammunition used, the "self-propelled howitzer 2000" can fire 30 to 40 kilometres. KMW says that the modalities for production have been clarified with the Ukrainian side. Production will begin. The prerequisite for this is that sufficient material, including armour steel and other important components, can now be procured.

Spiegel" quotes company circles as being optimistic in this respect. Sufficient personnel are available. The tubes for the war equipment are supplied by the Düsseldorf-based Rheinmetall Group.

      >However, it is still unclear when the first howitzers will be delivered to Ukraine.
this is the key problem tbh, time, maybe they could agree some kinda deal with Germany that it hands over existing Bundeswehr stocks and keeps the 100 produced later

The German army only has about a 100 of the things in the first place so this is pretty unlikely to happen.

Why was the Warhammer 40,000 the only piece of popular culture that truly represented modern warfare?

Because in the Grim Darkness of the Near Present there are only wars waged by shithole countries as the major countries with actual capabilities to wage complex modern wars would get economically ruined by the consequences of waging war against their peers and even some near peers making their entire armies nearly as good at MAD as their nuclear arsenal
