German S-H state police buys HK437

https://soldat-und-technik.de/2022/10/bewaffnung/33165/hk437-polizei-schleswig-holstein-beschafft-neue-mitteldistanzwaffen/
German Schleswig-Holstein state police just ordered HK437 (HK433 in .300BLK) to replace their MP5 submachine guns.
I'm very interested to see whether this will advance popularity of the HK433, which is IMO very much superior, in various respects, to the HK416.

Frick HK for not producing this sooner and offering the HK416 to everyone instead.

I need this. Don't care about the price. Just import it as a pistol without the stock.

I think it's pretty cool, especially if you consider how often pistols are what they'd be facing, a ballistic face shield would literally save your life.

This makes it so you can get the rifle in the pocket of your shoulder/gear and look down the sights without having to wiener your head or the rifle at weird angles. I assume you can kinda get a 'cheek weld' on that raised bit even with a mask on.

What's the point of these "half-monolithic" uppers like this and the MCX have? A compromise between "full" monolithic uppers and replaceable handguards? Why? What would be the benefit over something instead just like ARMS, PRI, or VLTOR's rails and such?

      Anonymous

you can switch barrel and/or handguard and don't have to rezero the optic, it's fast an easy too

Moreso than with LMT's two bolts and VLTOR/ARMS' detachable bottom rails?

      >What's the point of these "half-monolithic" uppers
well, LMT owns the patent on monolithic AR-15 uppers and no one wants to pay the licensing fee. For non-AR-15s, you don't need to have multiple uppers to accommodate different rails and barrel lengths for manufacture and end users can swap them out easily

        Anonymous

        >LMT
Okay, point taken, that's probably true
        >Swaps
What do you mean? Aren't there tons of "quick-change" barrel options for AR's other than LMT's? I don't think you need to change the whole upper usually...?

          Anonymous

if you had a monolithic upper that was 11+ inches, you couldn't do a 5" 300 blackout swap

Ahhh, okay, we're talking about the monolithics. Makes complete sense.
SURG was a mistake too, at least, insofar as the "suppressor under handguard" stuff was concerned. Cans shouldn't go under where you put your hands IMO

Colt Canada for some reason pays the licensing fee.

Doesn’t it also defeat one of the advantages of the AR, that being that the optic is fixed essentially to the barrel and not the Handguard?

Those rails attach to the upper, so practically the same, same with monolithics (just being an extension of the upper, kinda), if I'm understanding your post right.
It's just that they're more rigid and rigid the entire length, so you can mount PEQ's and shit without really worrying (as much) about shift and whatnot.
I've seen people use the old ARMS rails to mount EoTechs super far forward for some unkown-to-me reason, for example, if that's your cup of tea, since it's practically the "same" as if you would've mounted it to the receiver, just that you have 7" more rail to do so with.

What are the differences and what makes it superior? Looks like there is no buffer tube, i.e. you can use foldable stocks with the HK433 design.

      Anonymous

Not him, but I'd say it comes with the typical AR18 benefits like
      >foldable stock + normal function
      >front wienering handle means you never have to take the rifle out of your shoulder in case of malfunction or initial reload
      >ambi controls for everything
      >bolt release is near trigger for faster and easier reloads
Plus it gets rid of some of the complaints people had with the G36
      >less plastic, aluminum body
      >better upper and lower
      >AR15-grip and mags
And my personal hope for the 433

        >foldable stock + normal function
        Non critical feature
        >front wienering handle means you never have to take the rifle out of your shoulder in case of malfunction or initial reload
416 doesn’t need to be taken out of the should to do this either
        >ambi controls for everything
Common features on ARs and 416s
        >bolt release is near trigger for faster and easier reloads
Bolt release is well placed on the 416.
        >1/9 twist instead of the shitty 1/7
1/7 is needed to stabilize tracers, 1/7 is fine for regular ammunition.

          Anonymous

Aye. Controls are generally fine on the AR, but front wienering handle is just better.
Biggest advantage of the 433 though is that it was made to be a piston gun, not a DI AR15 with a piston shoved in. No carrier tilt, probably a few other things that work better. It's also apparently cheaper to produce (designed with modern manufacturing techniques in mind).

            >It's also apparently cheaper to produce (designed with modern manufacturing techniques in mind).
Lol it's an extruded gun that hk made frick heavy and difficult go make by welding reinforcements all over defeating the entire point if just cncing a slab of aluminum.

No idea why this exists tbh.

IIRC Mexican Marines looked at adopting the 433 but dropped the bid because they're looking at moving away from 5.56. I always thought it was weird that people presumed thr 433 was kill because it didn't get immediate sales at launch. I suspect it'll take off due to oddball chambering variants. It's very much looking like Blackout will become the new western standard for LEO duties and for carbine/SMG replacements. I suspect we're going to see 6.8 become the new standard for other combat roles in the west.

Australia, Canada and Mexico are all now looking at 6.8.
