gear selection for personal defense/escape

Hello frens.
I'm trying to find out about some good gear to buy/use for personal defense and escape.
Due to the escalating political situation I am trying to finalize my set up for a SHTF situation.
atm I have a regular backpack, a camelback, and no armor.
I know there are bags out there with interal support that helps carry the load of gear inside of the bag.
Currently I have around 600 rounds of packed ammo with a basic medical kit enough exterior storage for 4 rifle magazines and one 33 round glock magazine. Which weighs 22 pounds.
I am looking to find a better bag and a vest to spread the load or weight out evenly or gear that uses my body to help support the load.
I don't see myself as rambo and I don't want to engage anybody, but I do want to have protection and the gear to get my ass out of danger and more into a defensive position during a shtf situation.
TL;DR
What is a good pack and vest for a slim build person to carry about 40lbs of survival gear (including magazines?
My budget is $1,500

Are you trying to engage in combat, or survival? Those are two VERY different things that video game players and ~~*movie watchers*~~ can't seem to differentiate. If it's survival/escape, you want to be as light as possible. If you will be going into combat with friends and have supply lines or some kind of caravan/cargo, then yes, bring 600 rounds worth of ammo I guess.

When shtf you'll see people just leaving shit behind or dying from heat stroke or breaking an ankle on a hole.

Well. I'm in a good climate with plenty of rainfall. Dehydration isn't a concern. I am in a metropolitan area so I am expecting resistance as I escape from the hordes. It would be nice to just strut out like some Mexican walking across the border, but the sheer number of people around me will make that difficult. I may have to hunker down and wait for the initial rush out of the area, so either way I'm expecting resistance.
Most people will have rifle caliber weapons.
      I'm registering a SBR atm.
The main thing that I am looking for is decent frontal protection plates that are lvl4 and a bag that can carry my 20 lbs of ammo/meds plus the additional 20 lbs of survival (light, canvas, lighter, etc.) But I do not want something that is flimsy or going to carry all of the weight at the ass. I need a well balanced bag that is supported from the shoulders down to the pelvis.
      Thank you for responding.

ditch most if not all of the ammo and the rifle, maybe keep a glock and a couple mags. bring food, antibiotics and other supplies. get a .22 or a bow if you need to hunt. how the frick are you going to survive enough shooting matches to need 600 rounds? can you realistically sustain yourself for months? do you know what that actually means?

I would assume that ammo is really important. Using it as tender when necessary.
But if shit gets really bad and I go through 20 rounds a week... 600 rounds will only get me 30 days of popshots.

Have you ever played a multiplayer game? How many times where you killed? scratch that, how many times where you shot? Even if you're a god tier gamer, you still have been killed and shot if you play a game long enough. If you get through multiple engagements where you use 100 rounds against other humans in a survival situation, and survive, you're already one of the luckiest human beings in the world. So carrying 600 rounds of ammo on your body is not only silly but it's more likely to get you shot.

It's important to remember you're not the only human being that can shoot. Someone carrying only 50 rounds on his person can put you out. Real life combat isn't an RPG where "high stats and high gear = automatic win".

You want to remain light, focus on gear that goes towards your physical well being, like stuff to keep warm, kept fed, and kept hydrated. Yes, it's true that human's could try to take your belongings by killing you, but 600 rounds won't save you from being ambushed at night, or ambushed along a trail. Staying lightweight, moving fast, and avoiding engagements is the best way to survive. People still don't get it that survival/shtf isn't a battle royale or Escape from Tarkov. People aren't going to want to be getting in engagements for the EXACT same reason you don't want to. Because any moron even with a 10/22 can get lucky and end a life.

Also, just to add. If you want to carry 600 rounds because you're THAT afraid of other armed human beings... and you think you can expend 600 rounds against other human beings without them never hitting you back, couldn't you just pick up their weapon and ammo?

Any internal frame military style 45 l backpack will suit your needs. As for the vest, you can buy basically anything that is not dollarstore chinesium. It’s about what fits your body, not a brand.

I agree with you on many levels. And no I do not think of this situation as a game.
The reason why I have the ammo on me is so I can use it later if that use were to be game or self defense.
I am aware that I am a little fish in what is coming.. but first is to escape and second is to survive. Once I get to da woods I know everyone who could escape is in my situation.
I don't expect to wiggle my way out of danger.
And yes being shot in the back or side will be hard if not impossible to avoid.
All I am asking for is a decent vest that can take a rifle round and a bag that can make transport of gear easier then what I have.

            >Once I get to da woods I know everyone who could escape is in my situation.
What exactly is your plan? If it's to live long term innawoods it's not going to be feasible unless you're a very experienced bushcrafter/outdoorsman. Which you almost certainly aren't if you're asking these kinds of questions.

Natural disasters and such don't just turn your town into a PUBG server over night and if you're preparing for a short term situation you're so much better off staying put with your house and preps.

If you're talking about a long term situation, homesteading is pretty much the only feasible option.

TL:DR a CCW is by far the most important weapon and preps. Something better for HD is fine, but "bugging out" in a compete SHTF situation is a total meme

Unless you've got somewhere specific to bug-out to. A cabin innawoods, the family farm, hell even just a trustworthy mate's house because safety in numbers.

Dropping most of the ammo and the rifle is good for dropping a massive amount of weight. I'd say if you NEED a long gun, a Roni brace is a fantastic force multiplier for a handgun and only weighs a couple pounds.

How much does your entire kit weigh and have you ever tried humping that amount of stuff for multiple days?
I strongly advise you to keep you gear total (including everything you wear on your person) under 45 lbs if you are highly trained or 30 lbs if you are not very well trained. If you insist on bringing a weapon, bring one. If you insist on bringing a rifle, bring 3 mags and maybe another 90 rounds on strippers. A sidearm with like 50 rounds will most likely be totally sufficient. You are not going to Stalingrad, you are trying to avoid contact. The vast majority of equipment you will be carrying will be things like food, clothes, shelter and so on. Stay light, stay mobile, stay alive.
The more you carry the higher your calorie and water needs. Also your situational awareness deteriorates rapidly if you burden yourself.
Never trade weapons or ammo. If you want something to barter with, buy two packs of cigarettes. Two weeks into the apocalypse, 3 smokes will buy you a blowjob.

Frick all this talk in general.

The answer here is to build a network of trusted people that you can collaborate with so you have somewhere to go and people that you can contribute to. A guy with 600rds is foolish, an encampment with 15 dudes with combat or scout loads, with a diversified set of skills and assets, that's a force to be reckoned with.

I know you're a spergy incel posting on PrepHole on a Monday night, but you should be making friends and allies and planning these sorts of things with them.

Example, if some shit happened in my state, we can convene 15 families all with their own gear and portions of community resources in 3 hours on a large piece of remote property with two sources of year round running water, and plentiful game. We also hunt this property regularly and have power generation set up already so basic perimeter alarms and patrols would be cake.

We're gonna live in style while you die alone.

Grab some gucci gear so you can be a legendary loot drop for us a few weeks into it.

Why do you think s is going to htf?
Where are you planning to go?
How are you going to get there?

Tailor your gear to your circumstances.
