American tax money buys the best stuff. Sad that Russians with no gear just Zerg rushing Ukrainian positions are kicking their shit in despite all the Gucci.

Lessons learned: your gear matters little. Adopt monke mindset to prevail.

Don't go for the lightest possible. Easy way to roll an ankle and/or get blisters when you're actually in rough terrain and long distances with weight on your back. Get some mid-weight boots with premium soles

I think largely it's a non problem. Either ukraine wins and they'll get gibs from the west to keep afloat, or r*ssia wins and they kill a bunch of civies that don't comply and the ones happily waving the new flag are now a problem of the russian tax payer.

no amount of postwar gibs will fix the demographic problem

Wouldn't be a need for this if Russia was a real country that developed further from the principality/tsardom bullshit. They stilll basically do the same shit. They've got a Tsar and "nobility" (those who stole the most during the fall of USSR). Everyman is still a serf and dies for the empire. No freedom, no choice. Corruption still as prevalent as it was 500 years ago. Only cracked down upon if it is necessary to remove someone from power. People mean shit and are all expendable as long as the empire grows. And now we've got pricks in the EU looking at Putin like he's something they aspire to become.

Just apply for the branch you want before you're eligible for draft. You can prioritize what position you want. But in general, wear good boots, wool/antimicrobial socks and learn to shovel(although they will teach you this) if they ever put you in a position of digging. But to make trenches bearable, buy good gear. You can probably order some OCPs surplus from the american market since i doubt the Ukrainian military are that strict when it comes to uniform standards as long as its similar to MultiCam or their MM14 digital camo.

Compared to other shit, its pretty good for its price along with being durable or even flame resistant. As for hiking gear, i think beyonder sells some gear in plain colored that is ideal for hiking.

                >everything military is trash.
If you value strong materials that'll last you many years of continuous usage, then military gear is good for you.
If you want gear that's optimized to weigh a few grams less but can effectively be thrown away after the first tear, then COTS hiking gear is better for you.

I'm using a mix of both.

Not necessarily depending on how the material is manufactured. Ripstop is usually smooth or a mixture between smooth and rough. Twill is usually rough, but sometimes the material can feel fine when wearing it. As you continue to wear it, the gear will feel like PJs than anything.
