I knew Warthogs were universally feared but now I understand why.

Anything with less than 30mm rated armor doesn’t have a fun time. Problem is the splash on that gun is really wide so it’s not that useful in practice as CAS compared to interdiction.

I'm more scared of large cluster bombs than a 30mm spam cannon.

I wonder if rumor that Brits were threatening to fire at warhogs in self defence was true. Considering amount of friendly fire, I wouldnt be surprised.

    >tank guns are usually 120mm
    >4 shots from the GAU-8 is equivalent to 1 abrams armor piercing round
    >every second in a burst, it fires 16 of those
holy shit, no tank could come close to standing up to it

      Fricking M48s could.

They would all have to land in the same place, something that isn’t happening with the GAU-8's splash zone of "everything I'm looking at"

Yeah if you're 13 and don't really know anything about military aviation beyond memes and vidya games, then sure they're pretty feared.

    >6 barrels
    >each 30mm
That's like 180mm at a rate of 3,900 every minute. Keep in mind a MBT only has 120mm and can only shoot a few times a minute.

you forgot to divide that 3900 by 6. If you combine the calibers of all 6 barrels you need to adjust the firing rate to keep the equation balanced.

    It can't even penetrate a T-62.

My dudes, you do understand that 3x diameter is far, far less than 3x size, right?

It has a hard time penetrating modern tank armor from a distance. Still gonna be a bad time for any infantry. Not like they'll hear the BRRRTTT before getting hit by the rounds.

    >300 knots

Explain to me how every anti-air platform doesn't obliterate it out of the sky? Modern CAS isn't A-10s making gun runs on Soviet tanks, its F-35s dropping JDAMs with >1m precision from 30,000ft, which is far more deadly.

Oh I'm sure your ground troops will be in no way bothered by having to wait for air superiority before they can get any help.

Why the frick are you landing troops in places with no air superiority to begin with? It's american tactics 101

CAS can be performed by a shitload of aircraft.
Nowadays, spec ops is ditching the A-10 for that role with a fricking cropduster
