The problem is mostly that the Ukranians are trying to adopt and parade around all the worst aspects of the west, they should have gone for a constitutional republic instead of a "democracy" where big cities and corrupt politicians decide everyone elses fate regardless. In fact it wasn't until after the invasion happened the Ukranians realized that strict gun laws were a bad Idea, and I find it highly unlikely they will loosen civilian arms restrictions when it is over.

On the other hand I am very curious as to what would happen in Russia should it become blatantly obvious that they lost to the general public.

Putin literally nigged out. He could've assassinated Yanukovich for failing him (and presented it as a "gesture of good will" towards the rebel forces), then waited until the revolutionary committee inevitably shat the bed (as they all do), then come up with a nicer, shinier, less shit-covered pro-Russian candidate.
He would have taken the country back circa 2017-2018.

This fricking narrative you're try to push of Zelensky being some kind of turbo nationalist pre-2022 doesn't fit with the facts.

This war is entirely Putin's choice, Putin chimped out and tried to grab banan because he thought Ukraine was weak. The lesson is, never give any concession to Russia, never show any weakness, never expect anything but hostility because they are literal Black folk and if you relax around them for a second, expect to get stabbed in the back.

Agreed. In fact, if you really want to criticize Zelenskyy, I think the best way to do it would be to accuse him of having been TOO nice to Russia. A niceness that Putin probably interpreted as weakness, which further convinced him that invading Ukraine was a good idea.
Then again, if he had been tougher on Russia, maybe he would not have been elected, but still.

Euromaidan and this war both kicked off because Ukraine was busy trying to change that by shifting their market towards the EU instead of constantly getting into one-sided deals with Russia.

Prigozhin is looking to a time after Putin. He wants to be able to say that his men, Wagnerites, took their assigned objectives. Such a perceived solid war record makes a solid base for leadership challenges.
It's never about Ukraine for these old ghouls, it's always about increasing and shoring up their personal power.

In WW2 they would literally send tens of thousands to their deaths to capture this or that city for anniversaries such as Stalin's birthday or October Revolution. Or simply because some general or marshal ordered some strike, then forgot about it and didn't call it off.

Russia just thinks differently than you do.

Checked. And correct. But you are looking at this through western sensibilities. Orders came through. You follow them.

It's simply to bring something to the people at home. They are desperate for any kind of victory

Sounds moronic, until you realize it's Wagner. The man at the top gets paid for all the land he takes, not a bad deal when you've got penal legions to spare.

Please understand, Mr.Armatageddon is only capable of applying one tactic, turning cities into rubble and calling it victory, now that artillery is mostly gone or out of ammo all he has are dumb bombs and iranian drones

I admit I mixed him up with another guy, don't remember which now.

Years ago I've read a book about Yanukovych's system and it was neatly explained how future Ukrainian oligarchs rose from the environment where KGB and the underworld overlapped. Their main asset was that they were both thugs with access to minor thugs for wet work AND that they had seal of approval from the services, who themselves profited from their operations.

        >future Ukrainian oligarchs rose from the environment where KGB and the underworld overlapped
This is true for entire eastern bloc.
Criminals and secret service collaborators were also in prime position to gain power and wealth in czechia and to this day they and the holdings that arose from them control bulk of the economy.
Luckily they seem mostly comfortable leeching on the western order - profits from western market, gibs from eu subsidies and security that rule of law provides to themselves and their ill gotten gains. For the most part they don't murder people anymore. Although some intimidation and bullying of smaller entrepreneurs still happens.

Russian vor system and prison gang culture is cancer that needs to be excised from this world.
