Friend from work just sold it to me for $200. I did a quick search on Cheaper than dirt and saw them from $250-$300, so I went ahead with it. I've shot other Ruger's before and liked them, but don't know anything about this EC9s. Are they reliable? What are some issues people have had with them?
They generally work. DA trigger is hard to get used to for a lot of people but they can be shot accurately.
Whole lot better than a hipoint, relatively low capacity for a gun that size nowadays.
>EC9s
>s
The gun is a striker version that replaces the shitty hammer version. Trigger is great now.

It's a gun that shoots. If you have it when you need it, it'll be fine.
If you're not interested in conversation, why are you here?
It shoots. Keep the slide oiled Ruger's finish is terrible and it will rust very rapidly. I would get a kydex holster for it if you intend to carry it. Take it out for a spin, put some ammo through it and make sure it runs well.
For $200, you could've done a lot worse. I like the old-style Ruger ergonomics even with the long trigger pull.
With that said, is correct about their finish being shit. Ruger bluing is so fucking bad that I've basically sworn off the company for life. I don't say this often, but I would unironically get the slide cerakoated.
I know very very little about cerakoating. I've heard that term before and thought it was just for decoration. It helps protect it from rusting as well? Any other advantages to it?
It's a ceramic finish; it provides corrosion resistance. Some people also like to get it done in tacky colors.
Many gunsmiths and "custom shops" do cerakoating. Call one up and ask about pricing, you should be able to get the slide done for $40 or so?
Damn that's cool, and worth it for the extra protection. Any disadvantages? I'll do some reading on it of course.
Bro. Just keep it clean and oiled. The other anon neglected his gun and got rust on it. He just won’t admit it. It’s Ruger’s fault.
Decent shooter, had the firing pin on my break using snap caps. Ruger repaired for free but advised against frequent dry-firing.
>unironically mentions cheaper than dirt as a resource
It's no wonder they're still in business, too many people too young to remember how bad they are.
OP here. I've always had luck with them. Times change old man. Cheapest .22 buckets I've found, also got a great deal on a chiappa m6 and a Taurus .38
In what way did they used to suck.
Times change but ctd deserves to go out of business. It's not even a secret, like you could trip over threads about it.
Let's pretend I don't spend all my time on gun forum, circle jerking about my favorite brands and caliburs while insulting people who have different preferences and experiences.... Go ahead and tell me what cons I missed in the last decade I've been using ctd.
A PrepHole screen cap of a bunch of claims with no sources. Seems super legit anon, thanks!
They're shit and this marketing scheme they have is thr exact reason I don't buy Rugers. That gun started as the LC9, it had such horrible features it was almost like they purposely made it bad (they did). The trigger pull was extremely long, it was an internal hammer fire with no second strike, it had a magazine safety, etc. Then they released the LC9S which fixed some of that, then the EC9 which was just the same thing sold closer to cost. Each time they come out with a new release, they drop the prices to $200 so you don't even get a good resale value out of what you bought from them. I bought my LC9 for $550 and had to sell it for $200, then buy an LC9S for $550. Then the EC9 comes out, all within 2 years of each other. Fuck Ruger, they scam and their quality is shit too. You should've got a S&W Shield if you wanted a single stack. S&W has some god tier reliability. No police or military in the world uses Rugers and that's for good reason. Their semi auto handguns are trash, their other categories are ok though. Specifically their. revolvers, bolt actions, & semi auto rifles. Semi auto handguns, fuck no. They make cheap shit and sell it at scheming prices.
>I watched a couple Sponsored ™ YouTube videos and formed opinions around that, then used their verbage to pretend like I'm not ignorant to anons on PrepHole.
>Their semi auto handguns are trash
Don't completely agree with that. I don't think anyone out there makes a more reliable .380 pocket gun than the LCP 2 and Max, although the former frequently needs a little break in to get there, the torture tests and shit speak for themselves. Also while the P89 series was clunky and ugly IIRC they were pretty reliable compared to contemporaries. Ruger's budget, some of their stuff is trash but a lot of it's decent and some things they do are best in class.
If anyone wants a good-quality compact size gun for $200, the BRG9 is currently going for that rate. It was around $400 when it first came out over a year ago.
Pistol is fine. Place in pocket and reenact a tampon commercial.
While I'm not a fan of micro compacts, it's good enough to keep yourself from getting mugged.
