Is that sheet metal roof welded to the turret? And how is the commander supposed to see anything?
Also those sheets are so thin one could use one as a veil.

Supposedly these things are sometimes made out of T-72s with fricked turret traverses or T-62s or outright we've seen ones that had the turrets removed and were used as ghetto APCs instead.

I don't see how that makes this clown carnival any better, those tin roofs are going to protect them against nothing and just impede their visibility.

It doesn't but it lets their commanders send them forwards with even less complaints/resistance in theory. That and we're seeing Total BMP Death at this point. They don't really have enough stand off to degrade the PG-7V warhead if it comes in steep from above or straight into the sides.

I guess they initially worked when the FPV operators weren't so familiar with the "turtle tanks" but they figured them out recently and have been nailing them as usual.

Indeed, all the support these give is psychological.

            >It doesn't but it lets their commanders send them forwards with even less complaints/resistance in theory.
German staff ordered some research to see if outfitting tanks with wooden improvised armor made any difference. The advantages were more negative than positive (due to added weight causing tanks to get bogged down easier etc), however the morale effects of improvised armor were considerable. So WW2 German staff allowed troops to uparmor their tanks, in the hope that it would make them feel more protected and less prone to cowardice when asked to assault enemy positions.

makes the tank invisible to drones

            >makes the tank invisible to drones
Probably translation error and meant to be invincible?

I'm sure it protects against airsoft guns. Airguns even, if fired from far enough.

probably a translation issue, intentional or otherwise, I expect he said "immune" to drones not "invisible"

Second army in the world everyone. So mighty and strong they have to weld scrap to scrap because they've gone through so many working APCs and IFVs from the stockpiles. What a fricking joke.
        >domestic propaganda
Yes I'm aware but it sure makes them look like even stupider buttholes, and I didn't think such a thing was possible.

Drones explode on contact so sheet metal detonates them on worthless sheet metal as opposed to actual tank armour

      Anonymous

Smaller drones explode early making them somewhat less effective, but mostly they seem to obscure the view enough so it's hard for drone operator to aim at weak spots. Doesn't offer much protection maybe against smaller shrapnel. They use those tanks to transport infantry under the shed so it has kind of a psychological boost for them that they feel """protected""".

Rpgs work by sending a hot stream of molten metal at high velocity during impact, the metal sheet detonates the rpg a good meter away from the tank so the jet becomes less streamlined, loses velocity and temperature
Technically it's the space that's protecting not the sheet itself the sheet only needs to be thicc enough to detonate the warhead
Does it protect against kinetic rounds? No but its been more than a year since, the last confirmed tank on tank kill
Does it protect against direct artillery hits ? No but neither does anything
Does it protect against big dick ATGM ? No but again neither does anything, the challenger 2 that got killed in avdiedka got frontal hull penned by an atgm so soviet shit bones and less protected leo2s and abrams that don't even have du armor are also fricked
This is just a stop gap solution until there is something less moronic that can defeat 500 dollars drone spam, not even the armada, the new leo3 concepts, the new leclerc 2 concept or the new abrams 2 concept which are tanks under development in 2024 have an answer let alone tanks from the 80s

Does the Javelin recognise that profile? Would it be able to lock on it?

you have to set it to warcrime mode first

      Anonymous

The Javelin doesn't need a profile. It just needs to be pointed at what you want. You can shoot it at a building if you really want, but if it's a vehicle, it makes heat, so you can blast it.

They do that if the gun doesn't work.

Isn't Javelin laser-guided? It should hit whatever the launcher points at.
