Former Marines share anectode about AKs

>These things are so reliable it's just mind boggling, we were running m16s during my time and when we had a chance to shoot the AK we were surprised at how bad it shot. We were genuine surprised that these folks with these inaccurate AKs were able to drop us muhrains
Is he unironically speaking the truth?

Only inaccurate because the m16 is the only rifle they had ever shot in their lyfe

  4. 4 weeks ago

    >inaccurate
Not really. I mean they're inaccurate because they've never been properly zeroed and the guys shooting them believe that God decides that their bullets hit or not so you better shoot as many bullets as possible, which doesn't led itself well to accuracy.
    >reliability
I've seen and pulled AK's out of septic tanks, creeks, dust filled or so caked with carbon it became a new finish still run off the cat piss smelling 40 year old combloc ammo that the US gave to the ANA so yeah AK's are pretty reliable.

AKs are 3-5moa at best, on average.

    >inaccurate
At what range? Inside 300m, it is just as accurate as the M16. Past that, that's where the M16 is better, or you move up to a different weapon like the M14.

    >reliability
I've seen plenty of AKs filled with shit that kept banging away and some that jammed a ton like a WASR, and others that blew up because they were just shit.

An M16 can be plenty reliable, you just have to clean it and use good ammunition.

Yes and 90% of the time you gays who say the AK is inaccurate are comparing something like a WASR (AKM from the 1950's) to a modern free-floated AR. The AR is still probably more accurate at the end of the day, but AKs definitely can be accurized more than they are given credit.

Thats fine but why are we pretending 5.56 isn't a cope precision round in the first place when it loses energy fast and isn'tthat devastating outside of close ranges the AK can with softpoints? The strength of 5.56 is being able to crack out a mag not tight groups get .308 if you want muh groups because at least then you can do something more than just hit the same targets as an AK but slightly more accurately.

            This is me also

I agree but AK's are like an artisan built rifle with both reliability and accuracy depending wildly on build quality including fitment of the rivets, precision oc the trunnions and even the seer used. The hardeness of the bcg also matters or you get peening.
Because AR's have that modularity they also have a higher degree of standardization adhering to US milspec. A poorly built AR is way better than a poorly built AK in my opinion. Tge abdolute top of the line of each, I'd say the AR is going to be way better again. Modularity and competition in the marketplace all the way down to part.
It's only in that upper middle ground where you see them neck and neck. Take a Bulgarian AK vs. anon's $1,300 AR build and you have a competition, I guess.

and I have a decent respwct for how good an AK can be, most just aren't. Century are garbage and Zastava are "meh". They make up like 99% of AK's in this country over the last decade. PSA are too new and Arsenal are unobtanium. So when we talk generically it's going to be average vs average.
I do think an AK like Rob Ski's is pretty badass and he has no problem dinging plates at 300 yards with it.

        > 2 moa difference
In a lead sled on a bench, sure. But it gets multiplied by the user's own base level MOA, combined with ergonomics and ease of use and weight and a whole bunch of other things. If you give some rando an AK and an AR, he will shoot the AR more accurately just due to the gun being a little more accurate and a little easier to shoot

You realize a rack grade M4 is like 3-4 MOA right? About the same as any decent AK.

The thing we need to remember about the AK47 is that it was designed as an SMG - a replacement for the PPSH, not as a rifle.
This carries through into all its derivatives.

      Anonymous

Sort of. The AK was designed with better range and accuracy than any SMG and the 7.62x39mm was faster than any pistol round. That being said, Soviet development really did see the gun as an SMG upgrade rather than a rifle-smg hybrid.

  10. 4 weeks ago
    Anonymous

The AK was never a particularly accurate rifle but that's mostly because the 7.62x39mm round is a fat and slow round. It's the same diameter as a battle rifle round but with less powder. Many AKMs and AK-47s out there today are also over 50 years old and some have seen action all this time. That's a lot of wear and tear on the barrels and that'll kill accuracy even for the best of guns.

So yeah, accuracy is what we'd expect.

AK reliability is greatly overblown because it’s a exotic rifle
The neighbor grass is always greener
Both the AR and the AK are equally reliable rifles, the AR having a edge over the AK because of its modularity and accuracy

I’ve personally had friends specifically buy AK’s as their main rifle after getting out of the Marines because they trusted the AK more than a DI piece of shit that has to be cleaned and maintained or you start running in to problems. I’ve seen plenty of AR’s choke. Out of all my AK’s I’ve never had a problem that wasn’t ammo related (some rifles don’t like hollow points)

They make these fuck sticks clean their shit hardcore because when theyre out in the field the know the grunts will do the bare minimum but will have a good idea of how to cheat what to clean etc. Your friend is a lazy stupid fuck and so are you. Also clapped out receivers with clapped out mags that still run imagine a new good ar with good mags, will be even mo bedda.

Yeah, lame, bad design. I want to flip it on and off frequently. AR with ambi-60 degree throw is 1000x better. Safety goes on anytime I'm not actively sending lead.

                Anonymous

i wouldnt say it's bad. Many guns have worse safeties than both the AR and AK. Honestly i love the AK safety, it lets me check if theres a charged round without actually ejecting it, and i can inspect the whole cartridge and bullet while it's retained by the extractor. nifty feature.

Yes the AR safety is faster. The AK safety requires you to break your firing grip OR support grip and brush it off. However, I would trust the AK safety a lot more if I was crawling around on the ground. The AR safety is really easy to flip. The AK one is FIRM and you can adjust the tension on it to your liking.

The best feature I've found on any AK safety is the little cutout for the charging handle, so one can lock the bolt back and release it by switching to fire. Minor quality of life improvement but it's neat IMO. I put it up there with the loaded chamber indicator on an M9 in the "unexpected but cool feature" category
