FLASHBANGS

Do stun grenades actually do something useful to incapacitate enemies or are they just attention grabbers?
Is a 'flashbang the enemy then tackle him' scenario for example in hostage situations in any way realistic?

If by "tackle him" you mean that the state agents give him a tax-payer funded moonroof on his noggin, then yeah they "tackle him"

No I specifically mean if someone would not be present at the initial bang i.e. the thrower being covered behind a wall for example could he freely operate in the flashbanged area for some moments or does the incapacitation only last roughly as long as the bang

        Are you fricking stupid?
Here is how a flashbang works
        >police officer/soldier/whoever throws the flashbang into a room
        >flashbang explodes
        >everyone in the room is now either blind, deaf, severely disoriented or all three and unable to return fire effectively for several minutes
        >police/soldier/whoever threw it then enters the room, but they're completely fine from the flashbang since they weren't in the room
        does that make sense anon?
The flashbang's effects last much longer than the flash itself, for the victims, not for the person who threw it.

it's actually a lot worse then you'd think, the flashbang leaves behind an area-of-effect that will disorient people who move into it. The size of the area depends on the munition, usually ~6 foot radius from the explosion, and how long it lasts depends on air movement and even density - at higher altitudes the field dissipates more quickly because it has an easier time escaping into space.

A flashbang fricks you up, blind, deaf and disoriented for almost a minute but doesn't kill you

It's pretty ideal to clear a room of hostiles without harming hostages

It *can* frick you up physically and set shit on fire if it blows close enough

Ever shot a rifle round through a pistol length barrel without earpro at night?

    Like that, but worse

People who've been on the receiving end during training have told me that if you're expecting it, the flash isn't too bad.
However, the concussion will rock you because it will affect your inner ear balance thingy.

Ichi the killer was so needlessly intense. Like mad god or horror porn. I mean to watch it again but at a certain point it’s just grotesque. Good, but grotesque.

Part of the their effectiveness other than the obvious is just having something thrown in a room with you that you suspect is a grenade. Its going to put you off aiming at an entry door way for a split second then you get BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE’d

It gives a split second advantage against people used to/expecting them which is enough to slip 1 person through the fatal funnel before they can shoot. It can be as much as ~3 seconds if the target is in a small confined space and has no experience with flashbangs.

How much of a difference did having earpro on vs not have? I'd imagine that your average terrorist/hostage taker isn't going to be rocking a set of Comtacs or even Impact Sports to help autogate the big bang, but for training they'd insist you guys wear them to avoid a lawsuit for permanently damaging your hearing for no good reason.

It's important to prevent long term damage while training but tactically it doesn't make much difference. We had 1 crazy lad who insisted on not wearing his earpro until the SSG smoked him.

If you're used to bright flashes and 10" barrel level sounds indoors, and you're already covered down on the door, you can magdump reflexively whether you're blind and deaf or not; while if your rifle is down and you instinctively look at the thing thrown into the room and get the full flash in your eyes, you're going to get shot by the 1 man anyway.

Looking at how slow cops go tho I wouldn't worry about it too much. 99% of them are incompetent so the next best thing they can do is just throw 2, 3, 4, 5 flashbangs in nonstop until you're deaf, and then try to creep in a different route.

There are many lawsuits against the US military for shit.

Firing the M3 MAAWS (Gustav) recoilless rifles are linked to concussions and brain damage. Also hearing damage.

I can't find one for civ's that's not a shitty firecracker so I have a smoke grenade instead.
It's not gonna do the same job but I figure I can just fill a room with smoke and light it on fire then shoot anyone coming out.
