First confirmed use of a Japanese vehicle in combat

Russia has captured a Toyota Mega Cruiser used by the UAF and is now being used in Russian service. Is Japanese equipment, dare I say, combat proven?

No way it can be better than Cheby or Dadge dually cummins (slaps the hood)...

Who cares? Most jap vehicles are decades-old designs or copies of American vehicles, it should go without saying they work. They also produce the best cars, so that should translate to decent combat vehicles.

Civilian spec trucks aren't anything special. This is actual built for the military JSDF equipment being used.

I vaguely remember the Doug Demuro review. I think his conclusion is that they seemed much better built than the Humvee but we're even more underpowered.

The big things are the 4 wheel steering, 14 man max capacity, could still fit in a CH-47 like a Humvee, and most importantly much much much better reliability. The engine was a lot weaker though.

He fell for the military spec meme.

Its special because this is the first time JSDF equipment has seen combat. No one gives a frick about some Hilux driven by Black folk or sand nigs.

Nothing wrong with what he said, civvie trucks don't matter since the JSDF doesn't use them. Hell, they aren't even big sellers in Japan.

        >could still fit in a CH-47 like a Humvee
In theory. In practice HMMWV doesn't fit into CH-47 or CH-53. There is a reason why special forces have had all kinds of narrower vehicles over the years.

In practice for the Mega Cruiser too since it's cabin roof can be removed. A MC towing a 120mm mortar can be deployed from a CH-47

No show 'em loading it into CH-47 and doing it fast without preparation. You know cargo bay of CH-47 is couple inches wider than HMMWV or Mega Cruiser. There is a reason why US military has had alternatives to HMMWV for air transport as long as HMMWV has been in use. If HMMWV is moved with CH-47 it will be sling load.

Good luck with maintenance. They are cheap copies of american designs.

Which variant of the HMMWV? The HMMWV has many different variants and upgrades before getting replaced by the MRAP

pretty sure they all use the 6.5or 6.2l which are notorious for being unreliable and under powered even in civilian applications

Japan never gave any of these vehicles to UAF. This could be a second-hand vehicle from Vladivostok that has been donated to the Russian army.

Speaking of Japs, a Jap volunteer just died in Ukraine back in Wednesday. There maybe some more Jap fighters legit in action over there rn if that's any indication.

        >bugmen
A soldier of fortune volunteering for this war is by definition not a bug.
        It's a pretty individual action.

Japanese society, because of its collectivism, breeds a certain kind of lone wolf because it's the only way to make anything happen if you have some kind of vision of change.

This vehicle does not appear to have been officially granted to the UAF by Japan.
Called the Toyota BXD10 Mega Cruiser, it is a used vehicle that was scrapped, reconditioned, and used in Southeast Asian countries. Some have also been sold to individuals in North America, Russia, and Ukraine.

It was someones private vehicles, those are very very expensive, it's not like hmmwv which you can just get from scrap pile.
I've seen only one in my life and it was on German plates.

hilux is not used anymore since it became too soft and is now road oriented car, only 70 series LC.
Last solid axle hilux is now 27 years old.

Okay, but that's not the point. Japanese vehicles have been used in combat for decades. The Hilux is famous for showing up as the most common vehicle in third world conflicts.
