Because, in theory, the BMP is suppose to support the troops when they disembark out the rear and cover them whilst they get into position.

I can guarantee to you that those shitty carts can't go more than a hundred miles without needing to refuel, which sounds like a lot until you realise that there are no gas stations, so unless you bring it with you, by the time you finish farting around in the rear, you aren't going to have enough fuel to push past the first position.

Also, how are you suppose to disembark from the thing under fire?
Your guns stowed in the back, there's nothing mounted on the thing to shoot with and the only thing between you and the enemy is some Perspex and canvas which mainly serves to impede your ability to jump out of the vehicle quickly.

Russians literally ride on top of their BMP's and MTLB's because there's no space inside and they're coffins anyways (similar to the M113 in Vietnam). So they're not any different than those golf carts just more expensive to build and maintain.

Chechens haven't been near the front around the same time Wagner was pulled. They've been a frequent embarrassment and to keep them happy they've been primary in rear duty and unironically used as blocking units. Fun fact, the Soviet Army had almost completely eliminated MT-LBs from frontline service by the early 1980s. Most motor rifle divisions had three infantry regiments, one would be mounted on BMP-2s, the other two on BTRs. MT-LBs were essentially relegated to being used as tractors to tow artillery pieces and the like.

The fact that MT-LB had to be brought back into frontline service at all was itself deeply telling of the state of the Russian Army.

        >Methinks they should have just kept making thousands of the simple reliable Jeep for those kinds of duties.
You aren't only wrong, its worse than that. The simple reliable Jeep was WWII design and Ford Mutt that came after that wasn't much better, possibly even worse when it came to safety. It had tendency of rolling over while turning at any speed. As much as people have b***hed about Humvee in last three decades, it was gargantuan improvement over what it replaced. Pun might be intended.

My guess is they haven't run out, but they might not be able to physically move enough replacements into theatre in time to replace the losses. The HIMARS is fricking shit up pretty hard lately and in places like Avdiivka and Robotyne the drone forces are running white hot again in massive numbers.
So the golf cart they might have used to drunkenly tootle around in the rear, well its now suitable for frontline service.

In terms of 'whats left?' They did hit the halfway point on estimates last year on around late August, early September for stuff that can be hauled out and brought into service. That particular ability to do so, its at full footing and going to run as fast as it ever will with what remains of the skilled workforce capable of doing that kind of stuff. It may be an envelope of a lot of factors- logistics, output not meeting losses and simply finding the people who can crew a tracked, heavy vehicle are lets say. Locally extinct.
Any fricking moron can drive a golf cart ATV thing so it does mean that you can get a lower skillset into the field this way- course, the reasons why you shouldn't are off the charts and Russia if nothing else has an abundance of really fricking dumb c**ts so the consequences of that are largely ignored

Since they shut down T-14 after ten years of going nowhere, no one wanting it and even less being prepared to pay for it, will they drag that fiscal failure out? I mean they spent some outrageous amount of money trying to develop it that made a lot of new yacht owners very happy but it was kind of crazy.

it could be better than armored assaults if used correctly
it's just morons always assume you would ride straight into enemy fire

A standard anti-tank mine with a pressure plate needs about 60 to 100 lbs. This keeps smaller animals like rabbits and such from setting them off, but deer and pigs might.
Then the depth of the mine has an effect. If it was buried too deep ,the weight required go up. If it's placed in soft sand or mud, the weight required goes up.

Method of trigger is also a factor. Some mines are triggered by pressure, some by trip wires, and others by tilt rods. Some are triggered by magnetism, so a tank or truck will set it off, but a soldier won't. Some are triggered by sound or vibration.
So no its not a good idea.

Don't celebrate too fast, Russians probably think they can keep pushing if they keep the pressure on Ukies. US aid is at its probable lowest point, while EU aid is still ramping up, and they just took Avdiivka. It would make sense to put the most pressure on Ukraine right now.

And assuming they would throw everything they can spare, it could only mean that they temporarily ran out, but they might be able to reactivate more armoured vehicles if they slow down again.

There's also a thousand different explanations as to why Russians would do this without necessarily running out. Or their vehicles reactivation rate really is too slow to keep up with the losses.

4x4's are perfectly valid vehicles for armies, and in fact there's been donations and crowd funding for them for Ukraine's armies. Just that you won't see these anywhere near frontal assaults since they're ill suited for taking direct fire. They are support vehicles.

Russia has a lack of vehicles on the front, but they must keep up assaults and transporting troops to the front, so they're relying upon these because it's what they have. Putin must think Ukraine is on the brink of being broken and will rush to peace talks for a ceasefire.

The M113s in storage need work to be usable. They're pleasantly primitive but even in comfy US storage the ones we sent to Iraq earlier need work.

Ukrainians could do the work of course since a 113 is not more complex than a truck running a similar Detroit.

Blowing up old Detroits since no one wants them for scrap is common on Youtube. The 113 drivetrain is quite similar to the pusher bus arrangement but some of the bus parts are stronger.

Can't blame him honestly. With the US out of the war Ukraine has to rely on Europe alone. The recent Ukrainian ammo shortage and loss of Avdiivka obviously invigorated the Russians. To make matters worse Europe keep sending conflicting messages. On one hand you have nations like Poland or the UK firmly behind Ukraine or France playing weird mind games with Putin about intervening. On the other hand you have Hungary and Slovakia openly shilling for Russia. Also there's only God knows what on earth Germany is doing flip flopping all the time between war with Russia is inevitable to cruise missiles would cause WW3 to we must preserve the peace at all costs. Since Putin doesn't use computers he obviously only gets the statements presented which make it seem Europe and Ukraine are about to fold.

        >or France playing weird mind games with Putin about intervening.

I think France is just setting an unlikely worst case scenario where French and allied troops will go to protect Ukraine so that major cities are not threatened. He is banking on this never happening of course, but ensuring that even in the event of a catastrophic Ukrainian loss Kiev and Odessa will never fall.

        >Can't blame him honestly. With the US out of the war Ukraine has to rely on Europe alone. The recent Ukrainian ammo shortage and loss of Avdiivka obviously invigorated the Russians.

Oh make no mistake, the situation is the worst it's been in some time, and won't get better in the short term. Ukraine will have to hold on with what they have, while rationing rounds, and taking heavy losses. Moving air defense and missile trucks like HIMARS closer ot the front inflict heavy losses, but they have lost a few in exchange. F-16's would really help out (are they being deployed or not?).

Light quads lack that much ground pressure per wheel.

I thought of the entire point of an anti-tank mine, was that it wouldn’t be set off by a man stepping on it. It implies you’d want something at least vehicle weight. Two 300 pounds or more.

The Russians have lost 12893 APCs/IFVS/Armoured tractors
They are supposed to have thousands more in reserve that can be made run but that has always been doubtful as they have been pushing artillery tractors that have armour that can't even protect against small arms into APC roles They have also lost masses of recovery and engineer vehicles.
Russian losses last 24 hours and totals, personnel is Russian killed and does not include wounded. The Russian ground forces and reserved have been dismembered.

When this kicked off and it was clear russia military was in shambles, I wondered how long it would take before we saw waves of people in civilian clothes charging the front line with sharpened sticks.
I didn't foresee golf carts on that trajectory, but here we are.

I honestly, genuinely, without exaggeration don't see the difference

It was (probabaly still is) popular to jack up the suspension on golf carts for farm and offroad use. My father in law has one. The suspension and chassis are lighter duty than a Polaris UTV or comparable. But once you go through chinese cost cutting, you're probably back to golf cart tier again. These russian UTV remind me of the ones they sell at Lowes in S FL to cruise neighborhoods.
Ironically, they are about the same size as the old CJ2A US military jeeps of the WW2 era, which are tiny by modern stadards. The general trend for "light duty assault" vehicle gets heavier and heavier over time as shown here

        https://i.imgur.com/Ec1qCr1.jpg

        >Even the US is bringing in these kinds of super light vehicles for areas the Humvee is too heavy and slow.
Main requirement of the LTATV is fitting as internal cargo into Opsrey and Chinook. Its car for air mobile operations.
Where such requirement is not needed US military plans to us 22500 lbs JLTV MRAP monstrosity.

. Would be interesting to see these 2 against a 1940's Willys Jeep

Its kind of hard to predict just how low the bar goes, if it gets down to them not issuing donkeys and mules to the conscripts for logistics because they're 'too expensive' for the war effort we'll have hit peak old Crimean War cycle of returning to monke. I truly dread the idea of Russian's being issued a donkey or being allowed unsupervised around livestock. I'm completely fine with Russian's being killed wholesale and I truly do hope they suffer burning all the way to hell, but if innocent animals get caught up in their shenanigans that's going to be rough to see

No it isn't, its your working at Walmart experience. An anon posted cringe pics taken when working as an employee at Walmart. I saved some. To add insult to injury, Walmart has also implemented critical race theory education, aka kill whitey indoctrination. That Black has gone from being a slave to a massa on a plantation to being a slave to an anonymous corporation owned by a multibillionare family that doesn't care if he dies or not because he is easily replaced for free unlike the plantation slave.

If you are an euro you have no idea how poor conditions american workers have. The last bastion of American working class prosperity is working in the arnaments industry which is why war is so popular among the american populace. Getting a security clearance is the ticket to a middle class life.

I could write a long post about how evil Walmart is from the other side as well, as they do their best to cheat producers who then in turn cheat them. F.ex Walmart purchases a million micro wave ovens from a chink OEM, Walmart specifies them to have a lifespan of 3 months, so that they will break easily and then the clueless amerimutt comes in to buy another "because they are so cheap anyway" and then blames the chink manufacturer for the low quality device's inevitable breakdown.

When I was collecting information for a purchase of digital signage screens (these are the super duper durable very large extra bright computer monitors that displays advertising 24/7) I found out that high end japanese sign makers had ultra low end display lines that they only sold in America but not in Europe because they didn't want to dilute their brand with low quality products. Americans buy them anyway because they are so cheap.

Walmart could never exist in Europe, it is an uniquely All-American company. Lidl would be considered a high end chain in America.

The UK is however, very silly for not sending more CVR(T)s since they must have thousands, aren't using them, and they're ideal as APC's to ferry wounded troops and ammo around.

The time frame for these to have the most impact are the first two years, as Ukraine plans to move towards using CV90's, Lynx's, and Fuch's as their main IFC and APC's and they'er all boring utilitarian modern vehicles.

They do have regular 4 wheel drives but they've been gradually running out of those since 2022. Basic logistics vehicles are one of the most heavily depleted vehicles in this war especially on the Russian side. These golf carts are to at least partially solve that.

My theory: There are different Mobik tiers that will get different supplies
Lower tier: they have to to buy their own gear and get sent to the meat wave assaults, govt decided to bunch of these dirt cheap UTVs and give it to them
Mid tier: Get basic equipment and have to buy rest. get the bmp-1 or 2, T-72, etc.
High tier: VEE DEH VEH and other elite units, they get whatever gear they want, T-90s, Tigrs, etc

        Same problem for a BMP.
        [...]
Ukies have millions of drones and everything is mined. Armor is borderline useless.

        >Same problem for a BMP.
Checked but no, a BMP ought to survive most of those things besides artillery launched mines. Though being unlucky exists

This will absolutely trigger a typical AT mine if it hits the detonator.

Ukrainian soldiers have more bullets than there are ATVs attacking them, which is why Russian advances grinded to a halt or even reversed in places were they used golf carts

check Russian losses of IFVs near Avdiivka, now realize that ATV is worse than pure infantry and IFV

Russians capture Avdiivka just by sending infantry on foot into the city. Why weren't they shot you morons? Why was this a more effective tactic than sending IFVs you fricking morons?

That's the point you moron, that you could overrun them with ATVs.

Could it be so that these machines are so light that they do not trigger AT mines? Their usage therefore makes perfect sense?

The only way Russia knows to capture cities is to shell them into the ground and advance onto the rubble. They tried urban warfare early on and failed spectacularly.

Review your metodichka, Russia was the one supposed to have this modern MIC capable of outdoing NATO even in warfare and we are seeing welded naval cannons on 70s aluminum transports.

Ukraine gets the pass because they are doing what they can with what they have, and ironically they are doing better than Russia even at their worse.
