No, but like 4 different armies in Latin America are looking at buying Turkish armor so Venezuela is probably upset. Chile is upgrading their Leopard 2 fleet with Turkstuff.

what engine did they end up using? is there even a good non MTU solution?

      >what engine did they end up using? is there even a good non MTU solution?

The Continental AVDS is still competitive despite being from fricking 1957. The Turks and Israelis have license for 1200hp and 1500hp versions in their M60 and Namer units. Continental has also started looking at launching an 1800hp version. That thing is overbuilt like nothing else in the industry. It's big problem is that it's just too fricking big to fit in compact platforms.

what's the problem with armata configuration with unmanned turret? seems to be quite reasonable if you are able to produce engines - which according to seems to be the case

Altay came out way before *Armata was a thing.

      DV27K engine + EST15K transmission from Korea.

        Anonymous

did koreans manage to fix them already? the engine used to last 400 hours between overhauls and the transmission not even 300, that's about 10x worse than MTU

          Anonymous

The engine has been Korean for a while, but it's the transmission that kept getting delayed. In the end, they managed to localize most of the parts and the prototype was sent to Turkey to get tested. They liked it, and was immediately sold to them because there's no other option anyways.

its still not hitting the Korean demanded work hours, but the Turks said "good enough" for us iirc

    It's literally just poorgay K2.

Somewhat but not quite. It's much more heavily armored and is simpler which makes it good for conscript armies of less developed countries. The Altay and K2 both have advantages. Basically the Altay is analogous to the M60 and the K2 is analogous to the Leopard 1. I personally think the export K2 is pretty fricking neat. It is based on the lower profile K2 hull and has the Korean digital architecture but has the heavy armor pack from the Altay. It's been marketed in Europe the Middle East and Latin America. I personally think it'll catch on in the wealthier LATAM and Middle Eastern countries.

All that extra armor can go on K2 too. Altay seems decent but Turks wasted years redesigning it for no real benefit.

Why would Europe be afraid of an allied nation producing their own tank? That’s like asking if Europe should be afraid of South Korea producing K2s.
Shouldn’t Iran or Russia and their proxies rather be afraid?

I mean, yeah, but actually no. It's hard to say with the turks.

South Korea and Turkey, are not allies of the West. They pursue their own agenda

Literally everybody does that. Is France not a western nation because they also have interests of their own?

NTA but strategic alignment sliding scale, for the UK for example a guy who hangs around your friend group and is really funny, but sometimes gets coked up on a night out and fricks things up for everyone else.

S Korea is built on the same fundamental values as the rest of the West (Christianity), or at least they are moving that way. Turkey is a horde of muslim barbarians masquerading as a nation, and who have decided to stop genociding kuffars (as the prohet commanded) out of political convenience for now.

I legit think Turkey just bought the S400 so they could reverse engineer it and didn't care about losing the F35 because they were already working on the Kaan.

Nothing in the KAAN is Turkish. It's a paid project done by BAE and SAAB.

I think Turkey will eventually get them though as the US is getting Block 4 version, they'll sells block 3 to greek and block 2/2+ to Turkey to keep status quo in check.

Their main blunder though was walking away from KFX/KF-21 programme thinking that they have their 5th gen game covered with F-35. Had they chose to be the bigger person and took the 1/3 equitiy in KFX programme (instead of asking for 50/50 partnership) not only that the programme could be completed earlier but they could even be more ambitious with the programme (by going straight to 5th gen instead of 4.5 gen as korea had to scale back KFX programme)

If even half the systems work reliably I’d be surprised. Western militaries force their MICs to endlessly test and fix their products and even after all that with access to the largest budgets and best talent and tech suppliers there’s always still something which isn’t 100%. Could you imagine how sad and low-effort the shit coming out of Turkey is? I’m being completely unironically honest when I say that Chinese projects today are probably better than Turkish ones — at least ones out of the primary Chinese SOEs like NORINCO.

Those looking for regular 6-wheel version would go for K2 whilst those looking for heavier 7-wheel version would go for Altay

Altay needs 7 wheels because removing autoloader increased weight. I really hope K2PL won't turn into 70t abomination.
