I maintain that by the end of this war the Russian Federation will be so poor that Japan could probably guy by the islands from them.

Japan would never do that. Buying the islands would imply that Russia owned them in the first place.

Yes but it would also settle the matter and would probably be a lot cheaper than sending a token force over, even if it was uncontested.

Russia still acts like Alaska is rightfully theirs and constantly alludes to taking it back.

        Anonymous

More to the point Western sanctions and paying money that Russia could then arguably use to attack Ukraine more with would be a bad look on top of everything else. That said, if the war was already over, I could see Japan being willing to pay a token amount, like $100m or something if they were moving to take them back anyway and Russia suggested some face saving "exchange of money to resolve all disagreements and outstanding claims". Asians in general are big on face saving shenanigans that give them what they want but everyone gets to smile and bow. That wouldn't be bad to avoid any sort of international question or trouble let alone military effort.

I'm pretty sure even Russians don't take the Alaska rightful clay shit seriously. They may seethe over it because of course they do, but they know they have no cultural or practical claim over the land. Their revanchist ambitions only really extend to countries they perceive as weaker, and even diehard vatniks know that the US would obliterate them in any fight.

Does the Russian church consider Alaskan orthodoxy to still be a part of them or is it just another bastardized regional variant?

Orthodoxy is one Church. Within there are various regional dioceses for administrative ease, but no one diocese can order another around, unless that diocese has administrative authority. (Finnish Church, for example, is under the authority of Constantinople)
Alaskan Diocese is part of the OCA (Orthodox Church in America), which is autocephalous (self-governing) and was granted independence by Moscow in the '70s.

Technically even the Moscow Patriarchate itself, pre-Soviet, never received a proper Tomos of Autocephaly. The issue just sort of was forgotten and they became defacto independent.
At any rate, Russia is a prime example of why Caesaropapism is a mistake. State has no business meddling in Church affairs, unless absolutely necessary, and no secular leader should choose a Patriarch. I would trust a blindfolded catechumen pulling a name out of a bishop's miter more than I would trust a king/tsar.

The only way you want Koenigsberg - or the Kurils, or Karelia - back is if you also get to forcibly expel all the current residents, and kill the ones who refuse.

Literally how Crimea was lost in the first place.
We're not into Ethnic cleansing these days (the civilised world, I mean) but we're going to have to design some sort of model that gives at least a passing nod to ethics and humanitarian concerns if we want Ukraine to have Crimea back and still join the EU, which we obviously do.

Well good for you taking the moral high ground. Thing is vatniks are going to do that to any piece of clay they manage to steal, in fact, doing it in Ukraine right now with over 1.6 million ukranians have been deported with god knows how many killed randomly. Before the war burger intel alleged the vatniks had conjured up a kill list of over 600k just for official executions for the whole occupied Ukraine.

There comes a time when push back is the only possible solution. Otherwise what will happen is Russhitia manages to yet again steal some piece of clay, exterminates it completely even when eventually pushed back while leaving behind treacherous diaspora turds just waiting to back stab their hosts, no matter how well they handle them. If you handle them good=weakness waiting to be crushed by stronk motherland. If they treat them like shit they are= MOTHA RUSSIA SAVE US FROM THE FASCHIST NAZI WESTERN PIGGIES.

Deport them all, preferably in cattle cars like their granddaddies did to the locals, and dont stop until they are completely pushed out of european civilization back to their starting points. Which is pretty much Moscow and Petersburg with their nearest surrounding oblasts.

But it looks like a lot of ethnic Russians failed to learn from history.

I thought JSDF are mouthbreathers and boomers who aren't cut for normal jobs, this is according to Pvt. Dabidos who actually are stationed in Japan.

Even if vatniks are moronic the Nips are no longer the same quality of soldiers as their grandparents.

You don't really need much of a quality to grab those contested islands though. Just some boats, guys with a rifles, and some tard wranglers so that Japs do not redo nanjing massacre there

The old boomers are typically garrison units in the JGSDF on Honshu where most US military bases are which is where the idea comes from. Their tier 1 units like Rangers, SFGp, and SBU are solid and all at the far North or South where combat is expected. There are rumors around that some SFGp guys use a loophole to get around combat deployments and imbed with Delta and GBs under the US flag. Tier 2 units like 1st Airborne and RDF both seem pretty solid. Anyone outside those units are going to do typical defense where it's much easier with the infrastructure set up. Both the ASDF and MSDF are solid because they are regularly doing missions near actual combat like scramble, combat patrols, minesweeping, etc.

        Sounds bullshit

Japs can't speak nor understand English, they'll be a liability if they can't communicate properly

Being light Asians they also will stick out like a sore thumb, there are barely any Asians in special operations and the token ones already stick out like that astronaut Navy SEAL guy or the Viet GB who LARPs as a Jap

Ukrainian Diaspora are rather close to that particular area if memory serves.

    Huh.

The most obvious choice for post-putin policing of Russia as it reforms itself would be Ukraine, as they have the material to do a pretty good job. It could be a way of them to 'pay' for international support. They also would have an excuse to roll vehicles around hunting for their displaced, but they can't do the whole thing. Other countries will have to be involved, and involved heavily enough to prevent further conflict.

If Ukraine is involved in ANYTHING you can guarantee there will be war crimes. None of you trannies can disagree with the fact that Russia has been fighting a cleaner war in close combat situations. If they weren’t, it would be blasted all over CNN. Russians still see Ukrainians as brothers and there are still so genetically close, closer than Ukrainians will ever be with mutts. But by all means, continue to mistake our weakness for kindness. The bulk of the Japanese forces were stationed in China and Manchuria and collapsed within two weeks of a Soviet onslaught. Over a million plus pows. The collective humiliations and privations Russians have faced this war will never surmount the backhand the Japs got dealt. Plus the simple fact the Americans gifted them the islands for their efforts during the war and the fact they actively fought and were ousted from them.

Chukotka, the region across the Bering strait from Alaska, is larger than Texas and has a total population of less than 50,000.

it's basically because there's nobody there outside the cities, and nobody wants the region badly enough to fight Russia as a whole for it

Yeltsin was BARELY able to keep the regions subservient to Moscow when the USSR collapsed - it's unlikely Putin would be able to stop a similar balkanization of the Russian Far East, especially if it had the support/guarantees of regional heavy-hitters like the US, Japan, or (yes, they count) China
Mongolia might count as a regional heavy hitter compared to Russia, though i don't think they care much as long as they can chill with their horses

i think Chukotka and maybe the Kamchatka peninsula should be under US jurisdiction (makes a LAND rail connection using the Kurils between the US and Japan into a reasonable extension of the inevitable rail connection built across the Bering Strait). would likely still happen eventually if Japan took Kamchatka along with the Kurils and the US took Chukotka. they could surround it with ghost torpedo boats 🙂

Yakutia should probably be independent, Sakhalin should definitely belong to Japan. Primorsky and Khabarovsk should likely be independent (perhaps combined with Yakutia and Magadan Oblast into a sovereign "Siberia" state) so that China and Japan don't have a land border (i trust the Japanese to do more than just "self defense" but i do not extend that to not going to war against China over a shared land border lol)

    This is IRL shitposting.
Japan cannot take up arms to "reclaim" a territory (not collective self-defense), the Japanese public has no appetite for war (see Anpo protests), and America is only interested in the home territories plus those returned in 1971.
Zelensky knows this. Japan knows this. Russia knows this. America knows this. He's just fricking with Russia because of lots of Ukies got deported there.
Russia should give those territories back, if for nothing more than them being pearls before swine, but this declaration is just goofing around.

Yes, but does that mean they're about to launch an armed takeover? They're hoping to get them back some day. Ukraine saying "Actually they're Japan" doesn't change the status quo. Ukraine are just embarrassing Russia again by pointing out their illegal occupation status in two of the Kuril islands.

            Again,
Reclaiming territory is not within the limits of power set for the JSDF. It deals strictly with collective self-defense and humanitarian missions. That's how they managed to go to Iraq - as non-combatant humanitarians. Until article 9 repeal first passes through both houses and any appeal processes and is then ratified, that will be impossible. Considering the glacial pace of Japanese politics, we will be waiting.
Once that is done, the next barrier is that the Japanese public has historically been highly opposed to Japan's military involvements post WW2. They rioted when self-defense was legalized.
America has no interest in helping Japan with territorial claims outside of those in the 1971 treaty.
Japan's military buildup is about containing China for their inevitable ape out.

The Kurils are a long chain. This is about control of the southmost two that are right next to Hokkaido. All of them are far from China.
Whether those two little Islands are Japan or not makes no difference whatsoever to the strategy regarding China.
