Bear is still an accomplished guy who's well trained in a variety of shit, his show was just dumbed down LE EPIC garbage made for shock value and ratings, where Les actually gives a frick about teaching survival and is self taught.
Les getting drunk and doing commentary on his show and talking shit about bear grills is hilarious. There's a few of them on his youtube channel. He also talks about his b***h of a wife and how they got divorced and stuff. He gets pretty candid about his personal life.
>click on one of those last year >Survivor Les shitfaced talking about early in the series of series one >instantly roasts Grylls as a punk & hack while reminding viewer Bears had to rip him off to become popular >goes on to roast one of the producers (?) he absolutely cannot stand & got into fist fight with (I think it was) >says "frick these guys I am in charge now" >all of this he rolls out in first 20 minutes
...based Shitfaced Les.
>does commentary on rubber raft at sea >immediately says hey kids I really fricked up this time and almost died so...you know...really enjoyable time
his youtube channel was a godsend during the early days of the pandemic. i'm happy he's still doing the commentaries.

Well obviously not Bear Grylls, because Survivorman brutally roasts him every chance he gets, hilariously.
>when Les breaks out the harmonica after the sun goes down
I like the Africa one where he says Discovery Channel was freaking out and said he needed a medic nearby as an insurance liability, and Les just says "so we lied to them, the medic was technically there but at base camp miles away from me". So based, it was his show and he didn't take any shit. Thank God he can do this stuff without a parenting company anymore.
Him, tbh. Didn't hate Grylls, but he was there to put on a show, so it's different.
Also, off topic but I liked River Monsters and the dude who was in it.
This show is the fricking worst. >I'm a hippy and I don't wear shoes on account of me liking nature and shit. >No we cannot cross [sharp rocks / prickly bushes / rough terrain] because it will hurt my feet.
EVERY EPISODE HAS THIS SHIT
the missing 411 docs are top shelf kino and the production value is insane. i really hope they're gonna make another one. the canam missing project channel on youtube is also really good. i have a ton of respect for Dave Paulides, the amount of work he's put in is just crazy.
He's actually never on the verge of starving, ever. The human body is perfectly capable of going multiple weeks without food and still functioning.
Les talks about this too on his channel and in those wired tweets videos. At any rate, all you need is fresh water, fire and shelter to live for weeks at a time out in the wild, if it takes two or 3, or 4 weeks to be rescued for some reason, you still wouldn't starve to death.
I kinda enjoyed it when he first started uploading eps to youtube. But then when I was watching the one in the Carpathian Mountains (the one where is he passed by some farmer whom he obviously didn't film so as not break the tension) I suddenly realized that there is 0 danger to him. Most of the time he's an hour walk away from civilization and he artificially ramps up the danger that he faces. He sets up the camera, walks 200m, then goes back to pick it up. I just couldn't shake the feeling that I am watching a simulacrum of survival. Thoughts like "if he sets the camera up to cross the river downstream, how will he swim upstream to get it back? Is there a bridge somewhere nearby out of frame?" are not conducive to immersion.
He addresses every single one of these "complaints" in multiple commentaries.
I know, but then it feels like all those shots are fanservice. "He did it to show me". Your mind drifts away from the subject matter and you start thinking about the production difficulties and how weird it would look to make a fire and a bivouac from tree branches on the snowy roadside only for some logger to pass you by and give you the look.
With shows like these you don't want to know how the sausage is made.
The problem is clearly with you and not with the show. Stroud himself has repeatedly addressed every single one of your moronic criticisms. The show never presented itself as something it wasn't, it's you who have different expectations for it and are critical of it because it doesn't fit in to your preconceived notions of what you want form it. Feel free to keep watching your youtube channels, if someone larping survival in his backyard filming on an iphone feels more real to you, awesome.

>The problem is clearly with you and not with the show
I never said it's bad. I just wrote why I stopped watching it, maybe someone else feels the same. >The show never presented itself as something it wasn't
"If I don't find food/clear water/shelter soon, I will start [describes the bad health effects, all while walking on the tourist trail]. >doesn't fit in to your preconceived notions of what you want form it
Yes, when you call it Survivorman, people will start having preconceived notions about what the show should be. >if someone larping survival in his backyard filming on an iphone feels more real to you, awesome.
That's the point though. Plant doesn't larp. And he doesn't do "survival".
you are authentic. authentically gay.
hell yeah dude
Look it's a zoomer who can't conceive of a world where people once acted in a genuine manner. Pity it. Laugh at it too, but also pity it.
The thing I like about Les is you can tell he does this stuff because he just genuinely enjoys it. There's an earnestness to his content that you really don't get elsewhere, especially when you just know there's a whole camera crew standing by. The pain in the ass to record that show entirely alone in the early 2000s when camera equipment weighed a frick ton must've been soul crushing, but he still did it.
favorite Survivorman eats? there's an episode where he eats these, just the base of the stalk but the crunch sounded so satisfying. im going to try them someday.
Alone
Man vs Wild

Best thing about him is he actually got the rights to the show and uploaded all of that shit right on YouTube, free to watch. Based Les

There was one kino episode though
I will now watch Man vs Wild.
wtf i thought it was Man vs Wild, not Midge vs Wild!
Bear Grylls is /ourguy/
Unironic kino
Is that fellow trying to play a bass guitar?
nice
Bear has the most kino show ever, (even better than Alone)
>The Island
>One island full of men
>One island full of women
>See who does better
he should do a season where it's one island of men, and one island of midges.
Les Stroud is just a bitter old man with an inferiority complex.
Him, tbh. Didn't hate Grylls, but he was there to put on a show, so it's different.

Joe x Cody era Dual Survivalism is peak survival kino.
BASED anon
Joe x Matt is also an acceptable answer.
Matt Posa adventures on YouTube. It’s not as much survival survival as just camping and camp cooking. It is interesting though and he has cute doggos.
Missing 411: The Hunted
i wouldn't really consider that survival. the opposite actually.
I know, I just wanted to talk about it.
the missing 411 docs are top shelf kino and the production value is insane. i really hope they're gonna make another one. the canam missing project channel on youtube is also really good. i have a ton of respect for Dave Paulides, the amount of work he's put in is just crazy.
Man vs Wild
I binged all his shit over the past few months, fricking Canadian legend he is. His beyond survival series is pretty crazy aswell
Man vs Wild.
For me it’s Man vs Wild.
>barely eats anything
>goes back home before he could possibly starve to death
other than that it's still easily the best survival show
He's actually never on the verge of starving, ever. The human body is perfectly capable of going multiple weeks without food and still functioning.

Have you even really watched the show? He keeps in tons of shots where he goes back for the camera
I know, but then it feels like all those shots are fanservice. "He did it to show me". no your mind does that because you're a homosexual, not mine.
I doesn't happen when I watch Primitive Technology, because there is no pretense that he needs all those tools/structures to survive.

literally a 31yo neet
He addresses every single one of these "complaints" in multiple commentaries.
Yeah he's director commentarys are great. Especially how much he's willing to slander Discovery Channel
Take a good look guys this is what Twitter brain pseudistry looks like
You are just used to shitty overly dramatic overedited US reality TV that someone like Les Stroud feels "authentic".
Take a good look everyone. This is what twitterbrain in denial looks like. Study it, know the enemy.
you are authentic. authentically gay.
Look it's a zoomer who can't conceive of a world where people once acted in a genuine manner. Pity it. Laugh at it too, but also pity it.
Man vs Wild
He put all of his episodes up on Youtube. It's pretty great.
>Reddit: the show
Anything with Ed Stafford is top notch
The thing I like about Les is you can tell he does this stuff because he just genuinely enjoys it. My life
favorite Survivorman eats? there's an episode where he eats these, just the base of the stalk but the crunch sounded so satisfying. im going to try them someday.
The Long Dark had me munching cattails last time I went to Pussy Pond.
Did Les go off the deep end with the big foot episodes?
...he's just interested in the folklore bro...he doesnt really believe it...i swear...
