Not really, no. There's a reason HEAT is great against lightly armored vehicles.
It's exactly how spaced armor works, warhead is triggered away from armor proper, and the empty space doesn't allow the penetrator to properly form (in theory), making the residual damage just spill against the armor proper.
HEAT hits comparatively thin armor, there's not much space for penetrator formation either, but all the secondary effects just engulf the insides of the tin can instead.

Yes, there is a sweet spot of armor thinness (around stanag level 2 iirc) where a HEAT or EFP will cause a minimum of spalling, as if it had been reduced by a spall liner in a more thickly armored vehicle.

There might be injuries inside if the shaped charge properly formed a jet that has a spall cone going into the crew. Otherwise if it passes through clean they got lucky or there's a good chance the statistical armor/slat cage actually damaged the warhead and it didn't form a good jet with the added standoff.
