The OSINT guys literally do it for free. Where have I heard of this type of situation before? Why waste tax payer money

OSINT is probably double checked with information they have themselves and then it is just an approximation of the forces.

It makes a lot of sense that they would use ALL forms of information available in order to have as many conflicting reports on what's happening as possible to better determine what's actually true and what isn't. Someone takes a single picture about civy intelligence in the pentagon and everyone who's anti-america/ukraine will suck it up as the US having no clue what they're doing.

Honestly they aren't that interesting, you can make pretty good deductions based on open source intel assuming you're not retarded.

        the guy you replied to
yea especially with this war the stuff on high side is only days/hours ahead a lot of the time.
        vatnik OPSEC is garbage

You know what makes me laugh? Everyone freaking out about the leaks that the dumbfuck air national guard fucker did and acting like his leaks were the second coming of Christ. Literally nothing in there was stuff everyone didn't know if you had the brain cells to bang two rocks together for sparks. I can't believe they made such a big deal out of it, especially since so much information is out there in this war from Russian and Ukrainian sources. Like you said, Russians have no concept of secrecy and people chartering planet labs satelitte flybys can get actionable intelligence, which is just wild to me.

It was probably less about the content of the leak and more about the fact that the leak happened in the first place.
            Also, witnessed.

Tbf there were a bunch of fuck fuck meetings after the leak went public which were really annoying. You're probably right, it's just that you get jaded after a while looking at boring intel reports and having the public think you're some crazy hacker spy dude when all you really do is read documents at a normal desk job.

shit was annoying, had to do a bunch of new iagree and it took forever to get on the JCS slides distro

i hate to do "muh both sides" but ukranians also have garbage opsec. slightly better than russians but thats not really saying much

not to put too fine a point on it, but its not even close lmao

Opsec is basically impossible when everyone and their grandma has a smartphone these days. If a war actually happened on western soil tiktok would explode with videos of zoomers traipsing over bombsites and doing minefield challenges

It is possible, you just have to enforce basic shit like no smartphones on military installations and deployment.
A lot of militaries do that and it works quite well.

because OSINT stuff isn't classified. There are no legal issues or actual concerns with showing OSINT shit when cameras are around
