          Diffusion motherfucker.
High salt concentration in spam diffuses into the low concentration of water. Boiling raises water temperature, greatly increasing it's ability to absorb salt which in turn speeds up the process.

        >mfw PrepHole has better food threads than PrepHole

Checked, and that's how I do it. Add in some vegetables like broccoli carrots and onion is really good too. Similar prep with spam is good for an easy stir-fry with vegatables and fried rice.
Bagel with plain cream cheese, sprinkle some dill on it and thin slice of spam unfried is pretty good too, I've done that if I had any smoked salmon. Sandwich on hawaiian rolls with a good mustard, fried slice of onion and yellow bell pepper, and a white cheese is great too. Can't eat Spam all the time but it's a versatile protein and is shelf stable for a long time, very much worth the price to get a case of it occassionally for the cupboard.

        >like the taste of canned meat on bread
        >read on PrepHole that no no no I'm doing it wrong I need to cook it
        >cook it
        >its fucking disgusting now
        Why are americans like that

It's good either way, depends on what you're using it for and what you're adding it to. Sometimes frying it to get some crust rounds out the flavor or get a texture, sometimes you just want the cured canned meat softness in a slice.

The same exact thing happened with SARS. And swine flu. And several other diseases. A lot of people died in China, and then when it hit the West, it was a mild-moderate cold. Chalk it up to nutrition, antibiotic abuse, pollution, whichever combination you like. It's definitely not genetic or anything like that no matter how much some folks would like for it to be, because the effects on immigrants were no worse than on Western populations.

As an occasional Spam enjoyer, I have to say the best kinds are bacon and Less Sodium. Bacon Spam doesn't even change the taste that much (if at all) but it smells fucking great while you're frying it up and that's a nice bit of morale, and Less Sodium is just Spam but a little less salty so you can taste more of whatever you might be mixing it with. Note I said Less Sodium, not Lite. Spam Lite is cat food. Do not eat it.

    Question to all english speakers:
What is the word for "beef spam"?

As in, preservatives that is spam-like in texture, but entirely made of beef? It's not corned beef.
Like, it's mashed and pulped into uniform mush, added some salt and pepper, and can be used like spam, but there is no pork in it.

Not luncheon meat either, as there is no pork or chiken in it. It's beef, just minced finely.

Due to FSIS regulations enacted in 2004 to protect consumers against bovine spongiform encephalopathy, mechanically separated beef is considered inedible and is prohibited for use as human food. It is not permitted in hot dogs or any other processed product.

The main issue is that it could contain trace amounts of spinal tissue. There are obviously solutions to this but odds are the USDA didn't care to implement them or expected the industry to follow them.

Yeah brain and spinal cord is the main issue. England actually did similar and banned the sale of mechanically separated meat from anything that eats grass. Since that outbreak was a major issue on the global scale.

Prion contamination is nigh impossible to prevent, but allowing combo mechanically seperated products would probably also contain brain, and since the machines process thousands of pounds of product it could literally be a massive problem.

Readily available in Europe due to higher cattle farming, animal healthcare and food industry standards.

Lmao retard it's because Mad Cow is so spooky to both US and UK consumers we prefer a straight no risk to risk. The EU doesn't have higher standards of anything for beef and that very bloc is who brought Mad Cow disease to the rest of the planet you fucking moron. The US however has never had endemic mad cow and puts a lot of effort into preventing it. Also there is literally 0 protections or typical screenings done for Mad Cow. As a prion based illness it can penetrate skin barriers without broken skin. Detecting it requires powerful equipment and is not typically scaled. Thats literally why standard detection response is a straight cull of all meat in the area.

Don't know if that has changed since brexit. I have heard some scary stuff about them laxing food standards to allow american level stuff (Chlorine washed chiken etc) in, as they are now somewhat cut off from EU markets and prices have gone up.

the lobby over there uses propaganda to make it seem that way. in truth we are stricter on most things that matter. they invent crap like GMO/pesticide scares to keep us out. the purpose is to keep our stuff out because the US is an agricultural goddamn powerhouse and would easily collapse the european market if they were to compete on anywhere near a level playing field. they used to do this with chicken taxes but "free trade" agreements don't let them do that anymore so they invent this kind of regulatory bullshit backed by garbage science instead.

Chlorine washed chicken isn’t really a thing anymore. Vast majority of processors moved on to a better method of cleaning after slaughter. It was never anything more than a stopgap. Not to mention that the EU’s food safety agency considers it perfectly safe as well.

Unless you are slaughtering the chicken from yourself it’s almost certainly been washed. There isn’t a singular processor of any size in the US that would take the risk of being the source of an e.coli or salmonella outbreak.

Most people make homemade mash using those terrible hand mashers which is why its chunky and soupy at the same time. You need a food mill to really make a smooth restaurant style mash at home. Or a stand mixer but most normies will overwork with the mixer and end up with runny shit. Also protip: Always use 80% golden potato and 20% russet

Food standards are about the same (to the point where it's hard to say which are "better") in both, with EU being more strict on additives, preservatives, animal medication and non-tested substances.

            And yes,

Watch out, they’ll get uppity and will post Kraft singles or cheez wiz that by our own stricter definition aren’t considered cheese

There are tougher regulation on what you can call something. Like, I have eaten bologna sausages that have so much flour in them that in some european countries they would be considered "pastry".

Not lower or higher, just different. American standards for meat imports are phenomenally strict on diseases like e-coli because americans like raw meat; blue steaks and all that shit. You could argue that its because american dairy is so strict on anything that could cause illness is why their cheeses are stripped of anything resembling nutritional value.

Thats literally why standard detection response is a straight cull of all meat in the area.

            >... it can penetrate skin barriers without broken skin...

No, it should similar to HIV, if the skin is undamaged there is no risk. There is a big but though and I cannot lie scarification of the skin is considered potentially sufficient to compromise the skin barrier to the point of infection.

      >Regarding canned food. How strict is the best before date? 3 months? A year? Forever? How long is tinned or canned food edible for after that date?

Modern canned food that has been stored in a dark and cool enviroment will last several decades. I mean, just look at SteveMRE to get the idea.

It's even better when we're talking about home canning in mason jars. As long as you keep them dark and cool they'll outlast you with ease. Stuff might lose flavor and change color but it won't kill you if properly canned (= boiled inside the can/jar)

For home-canning, you should also boil the contents for 10+ minutes before consuming. The FDA says that will take care of any botulism.

well https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fat_hydrogenation#Process but the problem is basically turning a liquid fat into something that solidifies under some conditions, such as in your arteries. solid chunky things inside your arteries are generally recognized as a bad thing but as a source of seed or plant oil the ratio of these original liquid fats to literally everything else is completely fine. animal fats are safer but still not something you can just chug or eat everything fried.

Duck and goose fat is fantastic for cooking with. It's got great flavour and since it's rendered animal fat, it has enough stable long chain fats to fry at high temperatures without burning. Also, ducks and geese have tons of fat, so just buy a whole one, stuff it with some oranges, and roast it slowly over a tray and pick up the liquid gold for later use. That way you get succulent roast water fowl and fat for later use.

Try making roast potatoes with it. Boil your potatoes, rough them up a bit, then roast them in the fat. You'll get a glassy, crunchy exterior and a silky, fluffy interior. Cannot be beaten.

Sorry for the shilling but I always like to share some canned stuff we produce over here in Euroland to the few guys in the US that like canned stuff, look up Nuri sardines, they are one of the few old canning factories still doing it in the traditional way, those same sardines were sometimes sold to WW2 Germany so if you are curious you can try them out yourselves.

With the Hispaniced ones don't expect a level of Hispanice comparable to what you guys have there, and I don't know if you burgers are that much into tomato sauce + fish so just try the olive oil ones if you prefer, and don't shy away from the old cans they tend to be the best ones because of how all the flavour of the condiments got into the sardines.

We still like canned food a lot here, a staple for many University students is canned tuna with rice, is it true canned stuff is looked down upon there as poor people's food?

Nuri is good but I've always been loyal to the King for deenz. Yes tomato sauce tins are pretty common and I like those.

Most canned stuff is poor person food but it's also convenient. I think deenz are way more acceptable and edible than canned ravioli and shit like that.

Spam is one of the most calorie dense protien food in your local store . I love my Hawaiian plate lunch cup of rice 2 slices of fried spam and 2 eggs over easy and sriracha for flavor. 10/10 recommended

      >No mac salad

Ya done goofed; let me help you with that.

4oz small pasta - elbows, ditalini, broken up spaghetti (Maui-style; RIP Lahaina), etc.
1/2 cup + 1/8 cup Best Foods/Hellmans mayo (yes, it has to be Best Foods/Hellmans - no Duke's or Kewpie or store brands or fucking Miracle Whip)
      1/2 tsp. grated red onion
      1 small carrot, grated
      Black pepper to taste

Cook pasta until completely soft but not falling apart
Drain pasta and allow to cool completely
Mix mayo, carrot, onion and black pepper
      Fold in pasta
Chill in fridge until ready to serve

Wa la. Hawaiian mac salad is actually a condiment in disguise and not a proper side dish so I'd advise against eating it by itself but a plate lunch isn't a plate lunch without it and by god I will DIE on this hill.
