Dutch courage

>News Limited papers reported that Dutch pilots refused to drop below their "safe" height of 5000m to rescue Australian SAS and US forces caught in an ambush in September 2008.

Former SAS sniper Rob Maylor, wounded during the battle, said the Australians had pleaded with the Dutch: "We're in an absolute doozy of a shitfight. We need your assistance as we're taking casualties."

But the Dutch helicopter pilots refused to offer covering fire for the Australian, US and Afghan troops in the ambush. A US soldier was killed and seven SAS soldiers and two sappers were wounded. Trooper Mark Donaldson was awarded the Victoria Cross for his role in the battle.

The role of the Dutch in the battle has been described by Maylor in his book SAS Sniper to be released next week. He writes that during the battle the Australians saw two Dutch Apache helicopters escorting a Chinook and radioed the pilots to fire their Hellfire laser-guided missiles and 30mm cannons on the Taliban.

But the Dutch pilots refused to drop below 5000m, despite the Apaches being capable of operating at low levels under heavy fire.

"They wouldn't open up on the Taliban for fear they might draw some fire themselves," Maylor said.

In the end the soldier on the ground responsible for guiding air support told the Dutch: "If you're not going to engage then you might as well f . . k off." And they did, Maylor writes.

Good. Eat shit for Sebrenica (international community) and shitposting in comfy PrepHole threads (aussies).

Sadly it all sounds like bs since I've never seen an Apache flying higher then 500m. Fricking Harley gaysnof the sky ruining my peace and quiet.

Trying to sow discord here, pidorashka?

      Based

Don't want to be there, just keeping up appearances

Taliban didn't send enough troops to ensure the other SAS get killed

It was all for nothing and we lost to goat herders anyway. Good on the Dutch in this case.

No in that case the dutch forces requested air support from America and was denied because it was a UN mandate mission.

They were denied air support because they didn't fight and so were taken hostage. The Dutch would not have needed air support if they did their fricking jobs instead of hiding. Nordbat 2 basically proves that Dutchbat incompetence and cowardicd was entirely to blame for Srebenica. The multitude of damning stories from US and Australian forces in Afghanistan just proves that the Dutch never reformed, probably because they can't.

kek, the dutch have been c**ts in war since the napoleonic times. I'm genuinely surprised nobody has done us the favor of completely knocking them out of the game yet.

The kind of veteran who shit talks coalition forces isn't worth listening to. Escort chpppers had their own mission and couldn't just engage ground targets on a whim, ground forces not being able to accurately designate their own targets might have been a strong factor as well.
An apache could have accidentally wiped out an entire friendly unit

What the frick are you talking about? Retasking birds for TIC was standard in Afghanistan. The fricking Dutch were operating from the same base as the Australians, had the same TOC and had the same set of uniform control measures. Throwing the extra cope that an SF JTAC couldn't adequately put a bird on target is the icing on the cake, since Holland has zero people who have been through the JTAC program, do not have any program for forward terminal attack control that even approaches the level of JTAC and have a long history of being absolutely fricking useless when it comes to doing their job (ie fighting) on operations.

A US AWT would have dropped everything for the TIC. Why? Because that was the ISAF priority of fires - right at the top in bold "TIC with casualties" - and unlike the Dutch, Americans are willing to fight on operations. TIC with casualties was a fricking drop everything for any air tasking purposes.

Frick off neverserved. The Dutch were fricking awful to work with. They were so averse to doing their job that they created informal truces with the Taliban, where the Dutch ceded control of large swathes of Uruzgan to them to avoid patrolling and ending up in a fight; the Taliban reciprocated. It wasn't until the Dutch relinquished command of the region that patrols to reestablish ISAF and government control over the areas recommenced, and faced stiff resistance because of the years of shelter the Dutch had afforded the Taliban.

Many people were wounded and died because of the incredible incompetence and cowardice of the Dutch in both Uruzgan and Srebrenica.
