DPRK spends 1% of the USCG/USN budget to invalidate the litorral combat concept

So the entire USCG as well as half of the US littoral combat ships would be destroyed by the DPRK 's new toy in a fair fight.

Both the Freedom Class and The Independance Class are undergunned and have no missiles to speak of.

The US really needs to reactivate the BB Texas, the fact that a Nork Frigate can torch half the small ships of the USN/USCG by itself really burns my ass.

It has two types, the box behind the bridge has two batteries whick appear to have two very large missiles each and six smaller ones. It's probably 4x Nork Silkworms and 12x smaller missiles There is also a launcher box in the rear close to the electro optical tracking mast but that is probably for the primary AA missiles and maybe the Ilga boxes as well as data feeds to the manned 14.5mm CWIS. The two Tilt Drum radars seem to be for the rear AK-260s and the forward Oto-Matic clone.

No, they're not. the Cleveland (LCS-31) is the last Freedom-class ship, launched on 15 Apr 2023. They're still fitting out because the hull is already built and floating. Five have been decommed and 3 sent to the reserve fleet; the other two are being held for potential foreign sales. Fincantieri Marinette Marine is designing and building the follow-on Constellation-class FFGs.

Future builds have been abandoned for the Independence-class; the Pierre (LCS-38) is the last to be built. They'll probably do MCM duties, but there's no follow-on class for Austal. Two have already been decommed, and two more are slated for next year.

Thank you for that information, it seems my knowledge was out of date.

I'm glad they are being ditched, they are all garbage. I liked the idea for the Independance, especially the automation and having a huge power supply for future upgrades but it ended up being shit.

Yep. Nothing BBs can do with modern tech that can't be done by a new class of CGNs.

Yeah but we actually have BBs and their hulls would be insanely expensive to recreate, not using what you already have is dumb. Besides, it would be a huge source of National pride and we could easily put them in harms's way knowing that if one was damaged or even sunk we could use the incident to justify any war we wanted. Use them to blast the 3rd world in low intensity conflicts and if they get damaged then make up some story about it.

"For 140 years the USS Texas has defended freedom and while engaged in humanitarian freedom of navigation operations in the Persian gulf the Iranian regime hit it with a paper airplane disturbing 6 crew members naps, this means war!"

Here's a strange thought: send the decommed LCSs that are usable (e.g. don't have stripped out gearboxes) to the USCG. They could probably use some newer ships.

The ships the USCG have are already better, even the previous generation. Giving them the LCS would destroy the USCG. They don't want them, they cost too much to maintain and they are useless.

There are pictures on the internet (pretty sure Naval News has an article about it) were you see that each battery has four tubes for very large missiles, as you can see in your picture, which are Hwasal-2 strategic cruise missile, with no antiship function.

There is however between these boxes and the forecastle a space where one could fit a pair of quad launchers for AShM.

Battleships are an outdated concept, retard.

A single BB, even a reactivated USS Texas could wipe out all $6 billion of the Freedom class.

The Nork pocket missile destroyer in OP could take on half the Freedom Class single handedly because THEY ONLY HAVE GUNS AS WEAPONS AND THE NORKS HAVE BETTER GUNS AND MISSILES.

I would not compare the Freedom Class to a US Coast Guard Cutter because the US Coast Guard has at least two Cutters that are more durable and combate capable than the Freedom Class in a gun fight.

Both the Legend Class and Hamiltion Class are better in a gun fight:
      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Legend-class_cutter
      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hamilton-class_cutter

I'd rate the Hamilton as the best as like the Nork ship it has a 76mm Oto-Matic and is heavily built enough to take a shitload of damage up tyo and including surviving a Anti Ship missile. The Legend dosen't have the gun range and if it got close enough to use it's 57mm not only would it be within range of the Nork 76mm it would risk being in range of the two AK-630s on the Nork ships ass which would be a disaster.

That is obvious. That is not in question nor is the ability of the US Navy, Marine Corps or even US Coast Guard (with some losses) to blow the Nork boat to bits. The issue is the US Navy wasted a huge amount of money and ship building capacity on the Littoral Combat Ships which are utter garbage at their jobs.

one missile would be enough to get rid of any bb, face it dude as fun as bbs were they just aren't useful anymore, not even muh railguns and really advanced aa will fix the problem since they are simply to costly while other botes can do the same job but better for cheaper

      >one missile would be enough to get rid of any bb
You are a idiot. Even a pre Dreadnought BB like the would shroug off several modern anti ship missiles. Yes it would be damaged but it would still be floating.

The sister ship of the USS Texas the USS New York survived multipule atomic bombs and had to be towed away before being scuttled via having the entire US Pacific fleet use it for target practice, it didn't even sink it just capsized but was still floating:

Pic highly fucking related, it's the ship a bit to the left near the water spout. It got nuked twice and was still capable of being used.

        >survived multipule atomic bombs
        You're cherrypicking
A close miss with Crossroads Baker killed two battleships and an aircraft carrier and various other ships. Nagato was half a mile away and still died.
Of course USS New York survived, she was further away.

        >Even a pre Dreadnought BB like the would shroug off several modern anti ship missiles. Yes it would be damaged but it would still be floating
It's all in the hit location. A hit in the right place by something like a LRASM, say the engine room or even a magazine, would kill the ship instantly or eventually. Penetration is certain, no battleship belt can keep out a modern antiship missile.

LCSs have SeaRAMs and COMBATSS-21 battle management system (derived from AEGIS) on them. The missiles would get shot down, and then the missile boat would get hell rained down on them. The RIM-116 missile can be used in surface attack as well; the HAS software update allows the missiles to target helicopters, [other] aircraft, and surface vehicles.

And that's assuming they don't just send the mission to a nearby and available DDG or F/A-18 squadron.

You are correct. Their attempts to make a class of pocket missile destroyers have nothing to do with national defense. Since the USA or it's allies will never actually fight the DPRK they are simply building a dick waving boat.

I keep comparing it to US Coast Guard ships because that is exactly what it is; a heavily armed dick waving boat. The DPRK has the worlds largest submarine force and a atomic weapons capacity. The weird thing is that their naval dick waving is about as effective as US Naval dick waving: Both are pointless so both the US and DPRK are on a equal ground (wave?) here.

They are not going to be getting into a major naval battle unless it is in one of three highly specific siduations all of which are highly unlikely and all of which they would probably win.

Hey. You know what? If this "administration" really cared about "defending America" or "defeating unemployment," then they would institute a massive work program, reopen the naval yards in Brooklyn, Newport News, San Fran and anywhere else with a history of warship construction, and get to work with some top knotch radical naval architects on building a fleet of battleships.

Oh, I know they're "obsolete" -- *hits_pipe* -- but so were all those castles and monuments built by otherwise unemployed laborers taking part in work projects for pay during the Great Depression. They're just symbols. What they are once completed is immaterial; it's what they are before they're completed that's important: EMPLOYMENT for AMERICANS.

Heck, we'd even have on-site dining facilities & barracks, plus whatever else the workers need, so they need never even leave the naval yards, unless they wanted to. Do you know how many empty buildings are just sitting there right now? You could house (ala barracks) every single homeless American in the Brooklyn Naval Yard alone.

So, it's simple: we hire ANYONE & EVERYONE to work on the battleships. Gathering & processing all of the redeemable materials used in their construction -- yes, we're going to build these out of 100% recycled materials, especially the steel, which I know is iffy, but as long as we refine the steel extra-finely, and avoid chinesium garbage, we'll be fine.

Anyway, we make all sorts of jobs available at all levels of competence, so we'll have plenty of janitors and laborers. Imagine 0% unemployment, thanks to such titanic undertakings.

We'd've eliminated joblessness, AND built out our navy of fighting ships to numerically exceed that of China.

Who cares if these recycled battleships are not the most combat-worthy in today's sophisticated battlespace? It's an armed & armored boat, one of hundreds which can be deployed @ will to cover any sea zone while others are shuffled around.

      But they don't care.

Hey, guys, like, whatever, man, build whatever kind of ships you want, as long as you're gainfully (or subsistantly) employing otherwise-out-of-work Americans (no immigrants, every kitchen is full of immigrants, t. worked alongside immigrants in a kitchen as literally the only american-born american until we got another guy who was also former army and born in either america or dominican republic i forgot).

Uh, yeah, so build arsenal ships, troop transport ships, light helicopter/VTOL carrier ships, light picket ships, light ASW ships, whatever, man. Just build ships, lots of ships, more ships than our potential enemies in the next peer conflict so that we can simply outship them.

The battleship is a marginally better littoral combatant then the Freedom class by virtue of their protection and firepower being better for coastal operations then a hundred gimmicks, but that says more about the LCS being a piece of shit that was obsolete the moment it left mooring then it does about battleships being in any way viable in the 21st century.

Why not build ships that might actually see usage like a next-generation cruiser or the Burke replacement

Alas, the LCS was less that 0.5% of our yearly defense budget. So...how much of the DPRK's yearly overall budget did they spend on this...project?
