    > entire franchise depicts the empire as either booger eating moronic or nazi levels of evil
    > “yeah bro let’s depict our military like them”
Fricking morons. If they had at least made themselves look like the clone army that would be a little better but this is just missing the point

It’s perfect because all the people in “The Resistance” (also taken from Star Wars) who are supposed to be anti government are the biggest bootlickers on the planet.

There is also a guy who kills a bunch of kids in a desert and talks about how he hates sand before he gets magic space powers and a laser sword to take over the galactic empire with some old wrinkly senator who pulled a fascist coup hitler style

Imagine knowing enough to try to make fun of something but not knowing enough to actually get it right.

I'm talking about his transformation into Darth Vader not just the events of the prequels

and his mentor who teaches him the space powers is actually the good guy while the big empire and child killer is the bad guy but they used to be friends and had a samurai showdown on a lava planet kinda like metal gear

The resistance and the rebel alliance were based as hell, the new republic fumbled it because rather than keeping the momentum they allowed a CONDITIONAL surrender where the empire “broke apart” into warlord faction and just reconsolidated power again. It’s painfully realistic in how they dropped the ball

we missed an amazing plotline there about the New Republic dropping the ball; Luke, Han and Leia fricking off in fury; Imperial Remnants growing from a disorganised rabble to a galactic player
what we got instead was... I don't wanna talk about it

While shitty it feels like the way Mando handles it they kinda sorta do make it: Imperial remnants aren't followed up on because "the public is tired of war" while those remnants are free to form the First Order.

I don't think the US military is inherently the empire or the resistance in Star Wars, and I think a lot of the inspiration came from the nazis and WWII.

The anti-nazi resistance were real armed guerilla groups in Europe, and they eventually defeated the nazi occupations. They were an underground rebel group under the nazi empire, and the nazis fought the republic of the United States of America and Western powers.

So the USA would be the good guys, the free and democratic republic, and the nazis would be the bad guys, the authoritarian and fascist empire regime. In Star Wars.

It's not meant to reflect an actual specific real life event, it just utilizes a ton of real life events to incluence the design and feeling of the universe to the viewer. It's supposed to be fantastical and relatable. The fact that it became the mega-autistic geekbait 'universe' was that it had so many open ends and so few hard and fast rules about who/what/where, you could develop any number of viable stories and extended in-universe truisms and they would all be 'true'. It's just a storytelling vehicle. It's not more informed or a better setting than any other, it just had enough of the good qualities of a fictional setting to promote a ton of narratives.

Any relation to real-life events or concepts is a result of the viewer's imagination or the later writer's intention.

What is the Empire's actual ideology though? It clearly isn't just might makes right warlordism as it always consolidates extremely quickly. The way it pops up makes it feel that there is a grassroot demand for the Empire the New (and especially the Old) Republic never have.

My bet is that the planets largely self-govern no matter who is in control and what people want is functional intergalatic police that they can trade at peace (and avoid starving).

If you go off the 'overarching plot' it's a vehicle for Palpatine's quest for immortality, fulfillment of various ancient Force related prophecies, etc. The Sith are on the bad side of the universal power structure (Dark side is bad, it's not a sliding scale of morality they're objectively bad guys) and whoever controls the largest political structure + military can act with impunity to project their values over everyone else.

The Empire doesn't have an ideology in as much as it has a methodology that demands compliance and passivity of everyone they have conquered or projected power over. It's a dictatorship. They don't even seem to care about cleansing the galaxy of particular races, just troublemakers and Jedi (Palpatine's goals)

Virtually all star wars deep lore revolves around Coruscant bullying the entire galaxy into doing whatever is most profitable for them. They don't give a frick if it's with jedi, sith, or neither. Virtually all non-dominant but major alliances/nations in the galaxy have happened because Coruscant pissed off enough other planets to cause a civil war

Probably, all I know is that my country unironically funds a "Space Force". You can probably guess which one.
