Apparently they switched them to 7.62x51mm in the 60s, and then phased them out in 2012; in their defense, both of those are only about a decade or two behind its service life in the UK.
Bren was a great LMG. The Brits are notorious for not wanting to replace shit unless they absolutely have no choice, so they just updated the Bren to real fuckin NATO 7.62 and used it up to the 90's. Ireland used it up to the 2000's, and India stopped MAKING them in 2012. Honestly I think if it had been side-feed rather than top-feed it would still be an adequate (although heavy) AR
